I don't know why people are arguing over cameras.
They are only cameras after all, with different purposes for different situations and different people.
1DX II - seems like a great package for people who do BOTH serious photography and video.

This is the best body to come since a loooooong long time.
Price and versatily is at its maximum for another 8bits body.
AF seems absolutely stunning for video when shooting fast action, it is also speed booster suitable.
Not realy seeing moire on the videos, 1080p 120f/ps, all at this price, it looks like a good thing and falls back into the stepup the gh2 body made at its time.

More expensive must have at least 10bits and with better codecs. H.265, mjpeg, raw, whatever but  it won't justify more  if it ain't got more.
    Thanks andrew for this article.

    Wow...
An anonymous insider just revealed that Canon will be producing smartphones!
Unfortunately, there's lots of data processing, so the smartphone from Canon will require several heat fans. There are two prototypes at the moment, differently sized... We are pleased to reveal them.
    Here they go!

I have uploaded the Clip now with pro res proxy, way better (as H264upload)!!!
A good tip found in this topic, thanks!
Not a good example, because of the subtle use of grain, but here it is:

It's consistent with the A7 line offering. I think many people had unrealistic expectations, this is a 1000$ consumer camera, they won't go and use it to kill off their premium line with it.
I don't think this is the camera they expect people to buy the G Master lenses for. 1000$ body, 2400$ 24-70 2.8?

it's pretty irritating they gave it to a guy who goes right ahead and shoots the test in rolling shutter mode showing us exactly what we expected based on our experiences with the bmpcc.  isn;t it a given to use the global mode for a test of a camera who's key selling point over the previous model is the global shutter mode...
I'd have rather seen unscripted footage with lots of movement and a bright sky and lots of shadow so I can decipher whats going on with the global shutter enabled.  Come on BM give the camera to Andrew Reid next time and stop messing around.

Same for me too. It´s like filming 35mm. And adjusting the raw material in After effects is like having my own film lab:).
    Great fun and extremely cheap!

For me the VAF is worth! But as Andrew said before, when you have in mind when the problems occurs, you can avoid them.
But generally I can say that the 5dmk2 - also with raw, falls quickly in this issue.

Just one thing: remember, that for 1min it takes approximately 4GB on your card.
If you film a lot, it is maybe not the right camera.

I really like those quick shots Volker
What's interesting for RAW is that it's also possible to use other grading tools such as Lightroom. It opens up a lot of possibilities. There are lots of looks out there (Fuji Astia, Velvia, Kodak portra etc.) that were made for still cameras and you can then export as LUTs in Resolve

Great video and I think he really has nailed down a very close match.
Arri just got it so right with the Alexa. No chasing crazy specs, just a pure image that can be matched to film... in a body that would be familiar to film shooters, but very easy to use for digital shooters. They fully deserve their place at the top.

    Hi Mercer, Hi Zach,
the Filter affects stills in the same way as described above: a little less overall sharpness, less sharpness on the corners, etc...
    - but probably it is important to say: you can´t use the optical viewfinder! ... the mirror is always open while using the VAF!
So, with the VAF in stills mode, you always have to use LiveView.

As mentioned above: all in all there is a noticeable reduction in resolution when shooting stills...
But, as Zach pointed out: it takes a few second to exchange it...

I've been trying out this rather neat LUT called Prime Time: https://vimeo.com/146809144
I like what it's doing so far. The correction seems minor but in a huge way.
The guy said it's designed for Cine4, but I've used it on a modified Slog2 profile and got decent results:

The love for the 5D RAW video image quality seems to underscore what the Imaging Science Foundation has been saying for years - resolution matters far less than other aspects in the overall picture quality:
    http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/isf-contrast-still-the-most-important-aspect-for-picture-quality
    Their top 4 attributes:
    1) contrast ratio (dynamic range), 2) color saturation, 3) color accuracy, 4) resolution.
I'd easily give up the 4K resolution of my A7R2 if I could get 1080p raw with the quality of the 5DmkII / III.  I don't know if I would give up the size, portability, and ease of use features like autofocus of the a7 system for it though.  Just give us some tech from 2008 in our new cameras already..

BTW: To slow down the 5dIIraw euphoria a bit…

Moiré and Aliasing is unfortunately as bad as we know it from 5d-h264.

The VAF Anti Aliasing Filter comes with the limitations that Andrew pointed out (a bit less overall sharpness, less sharp on the edges with wide angle lenses, focus point changes during zooming…anyway I would recommend it!).

Independently of this, the max. resolution with my 5d2raw setting is:1872x850 (aspect ratio 1:2,20).
So you have to upscale it to HD.
If you want to shoot in 16:9, the horizontal resolution is reduced even more.

Nevertheless I love the image quality, for several years.
