Shot with the f35 to Odyssey 7Q - lightweight and small and battery efficient.  Shot to Pro Res HQ with Red 18-50 and 50-150 lenses.
It's very possible to use this camera now to do doc-work.  Now with variable ND options like with the Revar Cine-Tray

I actually have spent a lot of time with ultra "Elon Musk" types - and I'm reading the biography on him right now.
My uncle help create arpanet which latter became email and was a professor at MIT and worked in the AI department.
And my dad is a computer scientist.  And I worked on a doc on Watson - the most advanced AI computer in the world, IBM's AI project. So I got to know Watson's team very well.
So I've been around these types a lot in real life.  And their brains move at a different speed and tempo than most people, certainly differently than the two male characters in the film.
"Do you think I'm crazy" is the first sentence in the book about Elon Musk - said by him.
I wish the screenwriter and director researched the AI scene a little more.
It's pretty amazing/scary what is actually happening at google these days so much that Elon Musk is concerned about AI recently.
Oh well - hopefully the next film will get it a little more accurately.

I mean this in the nicest way possible, but I don't think you "get" Kung Fury. To compare it to the Epic/Disaster/Date movies is way off the mark. (profit-only junk).
Kung Fury is a celebration of 80's action movies, music and video game culture. All blended into one. While it makes a parody of it all - it's not done in a crude and negative way like these Hollywood parodies normally do. The filmmaker clearly loves what inspired the film, and you can tell how much fun he must of had making this film. he put himself into it (literally) and you can tell. There is a lot of heart hidden beneath the layers of composites.
Maybe my opinion is different than yours as I have the same interests as David Sandberg. I can relate to all the cliches, the over-the-top stunts, the directing style, the one-liner intoxicated script.... all of it. I love it when we can be ridiculous and get away with it. So many filmmakers "play it safe" but this guy just goes for it, all guns blazing, doesn't care what anyone thinks. But unlike Sucker Punch, it's intricately inspired and oozes character.
While I don't expect everyone to like this film, it's unfortunate to see on a filmmaking forum that some people can't appreciate the skills and effort of the filmmaker - regardless of personal taste.

    Wow.
Also I thought Tiny Furniture was whiney, boring, and petty bourgeois issues.  Just like my little film, "The Quiet Escape."
I think Kung Fury is touching, sweet, creative, and memorizing much like the first Matrix and had a sense of humor.
But hey, I guess we all have opinions.

Kung Fury is most creative and fun film I've seen since Napoleon Dynamite.  Here's the link -  a Swedish film funded by Kickstarter - here's a link to the full film.

Basically it came out of nowhere - made by David Sandberg for no money just with his friends and raised on Kickstarter up to $600k for a 30 minute film that beats pretty much every Hollywood action comedy I've seen in the past 20 years.  And all in 30 minutes.  It's just a pure idea that's hilarious and so well made and thought out.  He took his skills from music videos and created something more creative and brilliant than made by a much larger budget like Mad Max: Fury Road.  With a more realized world, better script, and more interesting characters.
Here's a behind the scenes look at the film - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReYHl8SPVfM
It doesn't look like much to make it - just guys on a greenscreen - and it oozes personality and character.
You don't need hundreds of people and studios behind you to be creative - just a little idea.
That fat girl is David Sandberg.  He circumvented the whole world of Hollywood and made a better Hollywood movie than Hollywood could make.
You don't need hundreds of screenwriters and rewrites and famous actors and egos - just one vision - one idea - and a bunch of friends, and a little bit of money.
The internet allows this to happen.  The Internet allows anyone a fighting chance.  It is decentralized.  Gabe Newel, the CEO of Value talks about this - if you have a good idea, it will get out.  Word of mouth.  It just gets out.
So next time you make something, anything - just make it good.
Put all your money into making it good and the Internet will take care of the rest.
The film is a trojan horse - it seems silly but the message is simple - "Hollywood - with all your focus testing and test screenings and computers you can't overcome something simple - film is about storytelling and mood and following the vision of a director or small-knit group of friends. You have become lost and distant to what is possible in the modern era."  With more films like Kung Fury becoming successful, I now have renewed hope in the future of filmmaking.  Boring and unremarkable films like Ex Machina and Chappie and the Avengers 2 of the Hollywood machine can go far, far away and real passionate auteurs can make their films from anywhere just with going straight to the people, who are much more intelligent than Hollywood gives the world credit for.

A free non-linear editor that will be good enough to do a lot of work - and a great organizational tool like Resolve futher makes me think this is going to be a game-changer again.  Why put all this stuff out for free?

Looks like any other "freemium" model to me that's meant to upsell/crosssell. There are tons of examples all over, most obviously in the free or super-cheap "educational" and the "personal" versions when it comes to creative tools. This model would especially work for tools like this as they take time to learn/perfect, which builds an automatic lock-in and loyalty. E.g., up and coming filmmakers (of which there are a ton) will try it, hopefully like it, preach/sell it (free word of mouth and social marketing), switch to the $$$ paid version themselves when they turn pro, buy/promote related products like the BMC cameras, etc.

I don't think this camera will survive.  I think you'll get a similar resolution and color out of the blackmagic 4.6k ursa and the AJA upgrade - but cheaper and with pro res options as well and better support.  The whole 6k, 7k game is pointless.  Look at the Taylor Swift "bad blood" music video shot on the red weapon in 6k - does not look as good as anything shot on the Alexa which is 2k.  The motion looks weird on that.
I don't know - it's getting to that point I think - where no camera has the edge anymore - it's about options.
Poor guys - picked the wrong time to make a new camera.
There are so many other areas to make products in filmmaking right now - drone technology - easyrig alternatives, etc etc - why so many trying to go the camera route?  Just seems so expensive and risky in this day and age.  Especially now that Blackmagic and AJA have entered the ring.

That was a beautiful grading and commercial - it felt like Arri Alexa or Amira with Ultra prime lenses and yes some filtration on it - shot mostly looks like at a f/2 on the lens to have pop.  shadows raised a little.

Looks like converted maybe into Cineon and from there a nice film print emulation - we should ask him - I'll ask him.

According to Jordan's instagram feed - it was red epic - so that's an amazing skin color grading job out of that!
I like to use Hollywood black magic over my lenses 80% of the time.  Curious now about the Digital Diffusion FX filters - going to test those out.
