I used to buy blu rays for the movies I wanted in the highest quality, but the convenience of digital (iTunes) outweighs that now. I can tell a difference in picture quality, but after watching for 5 minutes I forget about it and get into the movie.
I recommend buying iTunes now because they are automatically upgrading HD to 4K HDR as it becomes available - for free! I bought a 4K Apple TV and my movies look fantastic now. I can barely tell a difference between them and the few 4K HDR blu rays I have.
The ONLY exceptions are Christopher Nolan movies, which display the full 16x9 IMAX sequences on blu ray, but stay at 2.35:1 on iTunes. I don't get why, especially since Tron Legacy switches between the two aspect ratios on iTunes.
TLDR: Buy iTunes movies for the free 4K HDR and convenience of the cloud.

haa! thats so funny. i love that show. mulder would be so happy with all the ufo news right now
the irony is that ultimately the HD release of the x-files needs a fair amount of work in my eyes: as you may know they didnt have a bunch of the original 35mm footage for establishing shots, and also some effects shots, so they stick out like a sore thumb in SD. i mean they look really ridiculous. and they redid all the type (had to), but somehow managed to oddly change the famous typewriter font. wtf. i could remake that font in like a few days. So lame!!!
ive heard that too lol. im no expert but imo film scans can get too sharp. the film grain is perfectly noticeable in a lot of xfiles scenes in 1080p, itll just be sharper grain in 4k
dont get me wrong, id scan it in 4k, work in 4k for sure, but i dont think youre loosing much with an HD output is what im sayin. but i have to laugh bc in this case id welcome a 4k xfiles re-re-release so they could fix those goddam missing shots ?

After grading some sample footage from LensProToGo (pulling a former powergrade I did for the GH5 to the EVA1 footage with no adjustments) I'm totally convinced, that the EVA-1 is the best looking camera below 10 grands. Colorscience is superb (only slightly different than the GH5 - Powergrade worked perfectly), absolutely no image "worseners" like sharpening nor noisereduction - great detail and noise structure, and great motion cadence as well as dynamic range. Only the 8 bit artifacts in the slowmotion parts worry me a bit.

The GH5 is the first time I am willing to trade dynamic-range for ergonomics.

I am absolutely sick of rigging up cameras, if not with external monitors, than with shoulder-rigs and whatnot.

For my personal shooting style, the 5-Axis on-sensor IBIS, high-res EVF and LCD, and 10-bit internal, make up for the lack of dynamic-range and usable 12,800ISO (which I wouldn't even use, anyway).

I'm pretty excited to see what this new GH5 model has to offer. I'm happy with the GH5 and see the prospective GH5 "S" very intriguing.
My favourite modes are the 1080p 200m All-I in 25p and 50p. The quality is exceptional for "lowly" 1080p, haha.
Been shooting a traditional Christmas video this week, all in V-Log 1080p 50p All-I....

Yes, I watched the video again in 4k, and realized the red ring stands out pretty good in that particular scene. After taking the screenshot I noticed I was wrong with what I originally thought.
From what we see, I don't think there's a difference in screen size... but who knows. Heres to hope, ?.

I took another look, and realized what I thought I saw with the AF/AE button was not the case. ( LOL ) Looking at another screen shot, it's pretty much identical to the GH5 with it's button arrangement, and labeling. The only visible difference that I can see is the drive mode dial red ring, no red buttons...  Either way, I'll be putting my name down for one  to be shipped my way as soon as it's officially announced.

I am in the process of buying the SLR Magic VND which seems to be a good one, yet reviewers are telling about a tiny green tint and I was just asking myself how to correct this in general. In the end, i will just try

    Different Camera for sure.

People have been asking to have an example of the Alexa conversion on HLG footage, and want to know if it is as good as VLog
It is a precision match; I finally got around to shooting a comparison, and here are the stills.
HLG, HLG with GHa Tungsten Main (no further alteration), VLog, and VLog with GHa Tungsten Main (no further alteration)
Also, something interesting and useful coming soon.

Good old video sample review from one of the indie genius Seb Farges
So I'm holding 17.5mm at the moment
infinity to 1m is about 1-1.5cm of focus ring throw, so it's easy to quickly focus within that distance. From 1m and closer, the focus throw becomes progressively loooonger... until you forget that once upon a time you started to rotate it,... giving you the ability to make very fine adjustments down to about 1.5cm from end of lens.
Smoothness and dump-quality is second to none in m43 and aps-c world, on pair - or a tine bit stiffer - with (original) leicas, little bit better than zeisses.

I can say, several pieces of software in chain. However, I will be coding something that will fine tune the process, and simplify it to one.
    Thank you austinchimp.
I hear you about the luts; I bought many of the Alexa-like luts in my quest. Support for Hybrid Log-Gamma was just added, and something *may be released next year that will be more budget and hobbyist oriented.
No one will pay more for the conversion to be a reality than me. It was a huge savings for me though, because the used Alexa package that I almost bought last year was over $20K for everything that I needed to get it to work (and the GH5 moves a lot better)
I am preparing a series of Gif comparisons to demonstrate the difference between native GH5 color and the unmodified main GHa conversions. If you would like to see the conversion in action, send me stills from raw footage

The other aspect to the GH5 that's more rarely discussed but very relevant if you use the camera for production, is when you shoot in Prores HQ in 10bit 4:2:2 at 800mbps to SSDs you now have the image of a serious production camera IMO...yes...you add the mass off Vmounts, a rig, and an external recorder, but on sticks you now have a camera that still weighs far less than the big boys, but delivering IQ for any use, with large focus and exposure tools, and yet, can be stripped down to a small package rather quickly, for shooting in a location where say discretion is advisable...I love the modular nature of what many consider Frankenstein rigs...

Thank you Jonesy Jones, I really appreciate that.
I will take it into consideration. Just one light source conversion may still be used on other light sources to good effect. It is likely that it won't earn back what it cost to make, but it is something that I personally really wanted and was passionate about having (I was seriously considering used Alexas last December). Also, the research and development put into this may prove vital in my next, more costly, effort.
Currently available color solutions (FilmC) are far from accurate, and are best described as 'looks'. This is something different, and I intend to raise the standard for *conversions specifically (color transformations that should make one format look exactly like another)

"GH5 V-Log and Hybid Log-Gamma are transformed to precisely match the color science of the Alexa, without compromise."
"The GH Alex conversion completely transforms the GH5 image, addressing every nuance of color reproduction (from shadows to highlights, low saturation to high saturation, for every possible hue). This includes an organic rolloff which fully eliminates channel clipping."

That has to be the worse video quality I have ever seen LoL. That was probably shot on a Barbie Camera!
It looks like a SONY PMW-400K. I had one a few years ago. Damn great camera at the time. 3 2/3 sensors in it. Pretty much industry standard at the time.
Maybe even a older one. the 400k would do HD, so not sure what they shot that video with. Might only be SD not HD. It is not that long ago that ENG could even shoot in HD. Like only maybe 7 years ago and then Only in 24fps, Maybe 30fps. They would shoot higher fps but only interlaced video in HD.
