there's probably a million of them out there.  My other two russian lenses are modded i think, to get infinity. One the helicoid is worn out and there's a real loose spot in the middle the other dosn't quite reach infinity.  i have 3 different brands i think, been trying them out but i think i'm done with russians, not real interested int the helioses , not a fan of the swirly bokeh thing. Might just save up for a modern next like a voightlander 17.5 mm or a proper tripod. Yesterday on sunset i noticed the moon is back but 60km an hour winds straight of bass straight aren't really exciting me to go outside.

Let's be honest, these stupid workarounds are not practical on set.
It is up to Canon to fix the damn camera, not us.
We paid the money, and not a small amount.
Unscrewing the back, prodding the card door sensor, ripping the clock battery out... None of it is acceptable for $4000

58C for 45 mins in the special "not limited by heat" mode!!
But what's a few degrees C between friends when you want to sell a C500 II, right?

There once was a camera built on deceit
Who's video features were said to be sweet.
    But amongst all the clamor,
    Came Canon's Cripple Hammer,
And now we know it really doesn't overheat.

It depends on which is the least amount of face to lose, having to unlock it and admit they'd locked it or canning it altogether to avoid having to admit that.
You'd think they'd just go with the numbers, take it on the chin, just fix it and carry on selling it but you just never know.
Although having said that its not even entirely certain whether they would actually get much backlash.
People will let a lot of things slide to get the features a fully unrestricted version of this camera would give them and of course, in the modern world, as long as they tough out the first few days of any backlash then by and large everyone forgets anyway.
Everything that I targeted from the API in the testing app was based on that premise as both @Andrew Reid and I knew it was unlikely to be strictly temperature based but the subsequent chase down was necessary to prove it as definitively as its likely going to be proven outside of Canon.
I still don't think that will stop everyone talking about the temperatures though 😉
Canon muddied those waters with their original limit list when describing a specific temperature which set off all sorts of tangents with different anecdotal reports from differing environments.
All of that was a red herring but even "60 jpegs in a fridge" doesn't quell the "I used it to shoot 300 RAW files in 12fps burst mode whilst pouring molten lava on it and it didn't overheat" reports.
So I think it will go on for a while, particularly in the vacuum that Canon have left for it to do so by not making any sort of comment whatsoever.
I'm starting to think those people who have experienced all these outlying run times and unhindered performance with their R5s might actually have faulty ones 🙂

So they've replaced the "Cripple Hammer" with the "Temporary Incapacitating Hammer" ?
    Its a possibility.
Earlier on in this saga when the denial was high about the R5 I said we'd reached the "Pining for the fjords" stage of the Dead Parrot Sketch.
I might have to revise that now and say we might only be at the "He's not dead...he's just stunned" stage 🙂

you should shoot more mono no0ne. Thats rather good 🙂
I'm on my third russian lens. This one is interesting in the fact, there's no play anywhere, its quite smooth to turn and it came with an ef adapter that has the tiniest amount of play i have experienced in any adapter so far. putting on the 60d it seems to focus on infinity going to try it on the p4k tomorrow. The orchard near me is out in flowers so i want to capture it with the p4k.
Downside is the last few days have been 60 km an hour winds. Which isn't really conducive to me videoing anything outside.

I can not believe that Ebay "thinks" my ancient Canon 24 1.4 L FD is worth more than my Canon 17mm tilt shift?
This photo with the TS (with a lowly 12mp "non photo" camera) got a highly commended at the Mono awards 2020 (Australian B&W photo competition that attracts thousands of entries) and highly commended means it got past the second short list but not the final thirty.
IF live music ever starts up again, I look forward to getting back to using the TS for both video and photos of full bands from next to the stage.

    Remember this ?

So, again, I find myself thinking that tonight's tweet is a very funny way to spell "Boy we were wrong about this and our sincerest apologies to Andrew for trying to incite you all to pour scorn on him when he raised this on day one".
    Shameless.

noone reacted to BTM_Pix in Development Update - AFX Focus Module For PBC
AFX is the long overdue focus control expansion option for our PBC system for BM Pocket4K/6K cameras.

With AFX and its included handheld remote you can control manual focus of MFT/EF lenses but also operate our newly created Single and Continuous AF modes for the camera.
These new AF-S/C modes are made possible by the AFX’s integral ToF sensor which constantly measures object distance from the camera.
As well as allowing you to control focus using the thumbstick and AF-S/C switching, the handheld remote also enables you to map any of the camera controls such as ISO/Aperture/WB etc to five of its hardware switches as well as being able to toggle Record Start/Stop from one of its two finger trigger buttons.
All communication between the AFX, the handheld controller, the PBC and the camera are performed wirelessly and, as with the PBC, the AFX runs from its own internal battery or USB.
The AFX will be priced at €199 (plus the cost of the PBC for new adopters) and pre-orders begin next month.
Here are some basic examples of the AFX in manual focus, Single and Continuous AF modes.
In AF-S mode, current focus is held until you press the trigger button so is equivalent to half shutter press/Back Focus Button on a regular (D)SLR or mirrorless.
More to follow as the pre-order date approaches.

So I asked Sony PRO Support about this and here is the official Sony response:
"The CIZ works in 4k and 1080, AF works in both modes but is wide area only, the touch tracking is disabled while in CIZ"
My guess is this could be resolved in a future firmware upgrade.  Most likely the Active Tracking functions either need increased processed and/or the way they get data (each frame) to determine where the object being tracked is in the frame, then get focus info and set lens focus position to that distance (the A7SIII can do this 120 times per second btw).  With CIZ being a subset of the sensor output, the Active Track may need a new function written to consume this new data feed (each frame of the subset of the sensor output from CIZ).
Keep in mind, with video, CIZ can be at multiple levels.  So when the algorithms determine what the subject is at 1.1x and then you "zoom" to 1.3x, there is going to have to be some new functions created the determine where the subject is.  They could have some easy lookup tables to convert pixel locations based on which zoom level you are at, but none of that is there yet.
I have not doubt that the dual BIONZ XR processors would be able to do this, and probably will have less to process to support active subject tracking with a smaller frame, but the pixel readout stream that goes through processing needs to be tweaked to work with current active tracking functions or a new function written.  I'm pressing Sony on this, as they could absolutely do this.  And many of us will be using CIZ when shooting video as our "zoom lens".

I believe it has the same tracking as the A9, A9II, A7RIV and the newer crop-sensor cameras. Touch-to-track a subject. (Using the touch screen.) I wish the end of September would get here.

noone reacted to Andrew Reid in Canon EOS R5 overheated in my fridge! After just 60 JPEGs! (4 °C ambient)
Canon really threw the kitchen sink at the EOS R5 specs sheet. What about the kitchen fridge?
Canon have stated overheating time limits for HQ video recording in a warm 23 °C room.
How does the camera perform in much colder conditions?
Does the EOS R5 still overheat in the Wifi menu in a fridge?
Or do the cold temperature help cool the camera body, which Canon claims act as mitigation for hot components inside?

true, but in EVERY single format and framerate, 4:2:2 10bit is an option.  In fact,
    XAVC HS 4K you get both 10bit 4:2:2 and 10bit 4:2:0 XAVC S 4K you get both 10bit 4:2:2 and 8bit 4:2:0 XAVC S-I 4K you ONLY get 10bit 4:2:2 XAVC S HD you get both 10bit 4:2:2 and 8bit 4:2:0 XAVC S-I HD you ONLY get 10bit 4:2:2
** 1-3 all support upto 120fps, and 4-5 supports upto 240fps Just spent over an hour today in a zoom session with Sony PRO Support, I saw it personally, as I asked that (typed the above from some official slides he showed me (that I may have snapped a photo of, lol)
So, a better way to say what you said is:  The Sony A7SIII allows you to shoot ANY option on the camera in 10bit 4:2:2 color and also gives you the option to drop down to 10bit 4:2:0 on XAVC HS 4K and the option to drop down to 8bit 4:2:0 on the 2 XAVC S modes.  But every single option on that camera lets you shoot in 10bit 4:2:2

I was excited for the Media Devision video and watched it in full the other day. A few months ago I finally put together a new FD lens set that I converted to EF mount and de-clicked: 20mm 2.8, 24mm 2.8, 35mm 2, 50mm 1.4, and 85mm 1.8. I also have the 35-105mm 3.5 and 80-200mm 4 zooms but I haven't converted them. And I have a really shitty copy of the 24mm 2 that maybe I'll get repaired if it's not crazy expensive. The nFD lenses have been my favorite lenses for a long time, so I'm satisfied with the little kit I have, even if it is the "budget" option vs "Luxury" option. They're still sharp yet subtle and pretty.

Yes! I was interested in this same thing as well.
I've recently started looking at the FDs again after not owning any for a few years, and I am surprised by the price. Seems like even the FDn 50 f/1.4 or the wider f/2.8 lenses are more expensive now than when I bought and sold them. Weird!

Media Division released another video, I bet many of you already watched it. This time they are examining the Canon FDs and their similarity to the legendary Canon K35s. It's one hour and 24 minutes long, and holds the same quality as their video on the C/Y Carl Zeiss video.
By the way, there's a segment on removing yellow tint on thorium coated lenses with a cheap Ikea lamp @ 1h15m. I thought you might be interested @mercer

How can the camera of the year not win best APS-C when it happenes to be an APS-C camera? I guess no camera is allowed to win more than 1 category?
