sudopera got a reaction from IronFilm in GH5 Prototype
For now they can't talk pretty much about anything at all, so I'm guessing they are not that close to final product. It seems to me that the announcement was made too early just to have a flagship model presented at Photokina and to send a message to potential customers to be patient and not run to Olympus, Sony or Fuji.

Agreed. I like what Oly offers now, so it's only getting better. I'm certainly glad that they seem to be taking a big leap rather than baby steps. We'll see what it actually looks like for reals, but I'm encouraged.
I love this rapid, awesome, IQ technological development in gear.
My take away is this: Everyone is going to have cheap great cameras. The question is, what are you going to do with that camera standing in a room that's better than Bob, your uncle, standing in the same room with that same camera? It better be something creative and interesting, 'kuz cheap cameras with amazing IQ are a pretty big equalizer.

It is very hard to please people these days. When one company finally brings 4K 60p and at the same time 4K 10bit 422 internaly to the masses (that we all whined about for a few years), now all of a sudden it is not that important. Sorry Panasonic we were just kidding, we don't actually need better image quality, we need autofocus that is connected to our brain so we can shoot, read magazines and drink coffee at the same time.

Panasonic will probably have to throw in fast processors because it must handle 4K 60p and 10bit 422, so I think they will have horse power covered.

Both are relatively niche needs. Besides, I just recorded a wedding at ISO 3200 and fast lenses on a speedbooster in similar conditions. No problems at all.
Do you not own any lights? Besides, f/2 and ISO 3200 is enough for HFR in most reasonably lit areas, not just bright sunlight.
I don't shoot primarily documentary, but outside some fringe cases, it just doesn't seem necessary for 95% of users. That 5% might need a camera that shoots a clean 12,800, and they can buy A7S', but the rest of us really have no excuse beyond measurebating.

Is depressing reading on other places on the internet how quick the anti-MFT trolls are out, and of course their first red herring is "but it sucks at low light".
This low light argument reminds me of the megapixel race, sure there was big benefits from going from 2 megapixels to 5 megapixels, 12 megapixels, but then at around 16 megapixels to 24 megapixels range... the arguments got a *lot* weaker. And for 99.9% of users we don't need 50 megapixels!Ditto low light, not being constrained by 50 ISO film is *AWESOME*, then getting to 200 ISO... great! And now we can do workable 800 and 1600 and even 3200 ISO!

Let's assume GH5 carries on and is one stop better even than that? How is that not a very workable ability to handle?
Do we NEED to have clean 100,00 ISO?? Nah, that is over the top in nearly all cases.
I'd rather pass on the unnecessary over the top extreme high ISO capabilities and have instead the well polished and extensive range of features that the GH5 will have.

Here are some leaked(lousy) images, Fuji conference at 5 pm Berlin time. Hope it brings affordable MF video to the table.

I take back what I said in my last post. I just did some side by sides with my Nikon D5500 on the Flat profile (which i've previously described as having as much DR as the C100 II) and the Fuji is actually as good or better.
Attaching screencaps. Some extreme dynamic range tests.
Here's the D5500 with Flat profile
The Fuji at 1080p with ProNeg Standard profile, -2 shadows and highlights, -4 sharpness.
+1 stop of exposure compared to the Nikon (because the Nikon is brighter at the same exposure settings)
The Fuji at the same exposure settings as the Nikon:
Now with contrast at -100 using the Lumetri panel in Premiere Pro:
These were all at 1080p. At 4k there is even more headroom and the colours tend to be noticeably nicer.

Given my love for the Tokina 28-70 (Angenieux design) This lens is a dream, would shoot an entire film on just this.

I know that this is probably a great lens with a good price for a cinema zoom, but for a similar price those new Angenieux zooms seem like a much better proposition.

An APS-C sized pocket would be amazing. Smallish form factor with tiltable screen, better battery and speed-boostable to FF... just imagine .

Nice write-up.
I just bought an X-T2 (in a small shop in Venice where I am shooting and holidaying!)
We'll see what it can do here, as it's a pretty photogenic place, quite demanding on dynamic range with all the narrow walkways and bright sun.
I find Pro Neg Std does seem to lift the shadows nicely and sharpness all the way down + using 180 degree shutter helps with cinematic motion candence.
The footage out there so far hasn't been very impressive as not many people are buying it for video.... yet?
The only annoyance I have so far is that they removed the video record button and to switch between video & stills mode is now on the drive lever, which is an awkward bastard of a dial to say the least - not sure what they were thinking ergonomically with that one!! You cannot assign video to a funtion button or enter video mode in the blink of an eye. It takes a fiddle with the lever and an accidental turn of the ISO wheel...hmm.
Am shooting via a passive Canon EF adapter at the moment, don't have my NDs or Fuji glass with me but at night I'll be shooting wide open at 1/50 anyway.
What this thing offers over the Samsung NX1 appears to be a few advantages -
- Fuji glass
- Not discontinued
- Better at high ISOs
- Better EVF
- Smaller
- Speed Booster compatible (although a third party one is in the making for NX I've yet to see what the performance is like)
That last point is very important as it turns the X-T1's 1.74x crop factor to 1.23x - similar to the Canon 1D C, with a huge range of full frame glass - A Mount, Nikon, Contax Zeiss, Canon FD, etc.
So if we consider the X-T2 as a near-full frame A7R II replacement with the colour science and ergonomics fixed, for half the price, I think it's looking like a front runner.
I'm off to shoot and find out!

Physics also is affected by how compact the camera is, not just the weight. A heavy object a long way from the centre (like a big front element on a long lens) requires more force to move than if it was nearer the centre. That is why it is difficult to give absolute weight limits.
