Some temple scenes shot in 4K on a Samsung NX1. Handheld using the Samsung 16-50/2-28. Gamma DR, Contrast -5, Master Black Level +10. Film Convert (Red / Epic X / Redgamma 3 - Fuji Astia 100). FCPX. Music is "Shanghai Dream" by Christopher Ashmore.
Some of it turned out OK, but some spots I think I missed focus and other parts came out over exposed.

As if nikon with an established brand wants to alienate their users by having them handling adapters on and off and don't make money selling lenses so a bunch of guys can use canon fd lenses from their grandpa

Never said it was better, I just don't think it's likely. Actually it may be better, if you are stuck using only one brand of glass that has a legendary history, then Nikkor glass is the way to go.
Just don't think Nikon is going to buy Samsung tech and put out the Nikon NX2.

We read what you said, we just disagree with the point. Why would Nikon want to alienate their existing customer base just so they can utilize a few Samsung lenses? Why would millions of Nikon lens customers want to use an adapter? Why would Nikon care if the new owner of their FF mirrorless camera can buy vintage Canon FD lenses... Actually that is a good reason for them not use the NX mount.

I don't think there's any chance Nikon would use the NX mount in a new Nikon mirrorless based on Samsung tech. They'll take what they want and adapt it to their FF F mount ... I hope. Current Nikon users will want full compatibility with their lenses and this will sell the most cameras for Nikon. To use the current NX mount would make no sense for Nikon IMO. Very good news for Nikon users !!

Thanks. I have no idea what I'm doing but I find this camera a lot of fun
There seems to be a lot of ways to get a natural look out of the NX1. I like these settings too ... 16-50S .. Gamma DR, Contrast -5, Master Black Level +10. Sharpness was either at 0 or +5 ... can't remember but was too high either way. My wife's hair looks pretty bad as a result. Great fun experimenting anyway.
Exactly same settings here but used FilmConvert over the top for a very non-natural look ... 16-50PZ ... Arri ... Alexa ... DCIP3 ... KD5207 (Andrews suggestion somewhere along the line)
I'd also like to start shooting more street stuff with the 16-50PZ ... while the 16-50S seems perfect in every way, the PZ seems to have a nice less clinical look and it makes the NX1 a totally different cam to use because it's so light and nimble with nice stabilisation especially when teamed up with DIS and the cams AF abilities. I like the PZ lens

This is a great thread. Looks like everyone's using the vivid profile. Will have to try it and some of the other settings mentioned here.
I like these settings I posted previously in another thread for a nearly SOOC natural look. Has some room to manoeuvre in the darks but very natural colours IMO.
    Standard (Normal Gamma)  ... Green = 95%, Saturation = -2, Sharpness = -10, Contrast = 0, MBL +10.

OK, Put on my Flame suit :-)  Actually I would LOVE the Sony to be the camera I keep, I just wish it didn't compromise so much in a few area's like FF 4K resolution and moreso the smearing of detail in FF.  Because of this and the cost ratio of lenses to kit out the A7 series is why I am tossing up to keep the NX1 and or Keep the A7RII and invest in more FF glass....Again :-)    Below are some samples, at 100% and then 200% from 4K still grabs.  From Sony A7RII and NX1  all shot with the same Nikon 35mm 2.8 prime at F5.6,   The order is A7RII  S35....A7RII FF.......NX1.     Before everyone replies yes I can see the NX1 is over sharpened, but it is also impossible to sharpen the Sony S35 to get the result the NX1 gives natively.  So my conclusion is that the S35 on the A7RII is pretty good but probably needs some post sharpening, The A7RII FF is not so good, and the NX1 has lots of resolution and is oversharpened in camera.  The last image is of the 5DMKIII  internal codec versus Magic Lantern Raw showing how the detail in far greater in her T-Shirt,  hat and skin (freckles) where the internal codec is destructive to such detail.  This has been what I have found with the A7RII in FF, the softness I can see and accept to a point,  but less so the smearing of texture and detail that is lost in open areas of detail (rather than edges) that results from this.

My impression is that for the average shots it will be difficult to notice the difference. For deep DoF nature shots then it might be easier to see the difference. I default in FF mode since it has less rolling shutter too. Only in low light or when I want a narrower FoV I switch to S35. (Also it has been tested here, and here)

The A7RII doesn't have Slog 3, just Slog 2. Slog 3 has been a bit divisive on the A7SII so you're not missing out on too much.

The A7R2 in aps-c 4k mode is outstanding - clean to 25600iso, little to no nasties at all.
Full frame is a little ropey but still good IMO, and still way better than what you'll be used to with the a7ii.
I shot all of this in full frame mode on the a7r2 _  https://vimeo.com/142447881   password: scotland
I was shooting with a 24mm f5.6 lens so the iso was usually at around 3200-12800 in some of the lower light scenes.  As you see, the image is good, even on the flawed full frame mode.  As you probably know, the still mode is unreal, and having a full frame 42mpx camera for stills and a camera that shoots flawless 4k in aps-c mode, as well as damn good (if a bit flawed) video in full frame mode is a great package - particularly now it shoots uncompressed raw in stills

I love the D750. It's the Goldilocks of all FF DSLR's I think. Does everything well.
I tried the Flaat 11 profile a few times with it and it seems to work well. https://vimeo.com/124688710
The new stabilised Tamron primes may be a nice match with the D750 for hand held video. Could be a nice combo.

It's interesting that some sort of inbuilt stabilisation is on Samsung's radar an implemented in a FW update. I hope the NX2 goes the whole way with 5 axis IBIS. That would be a big plus !!

Brought my new A7ii over the weekend and played around a bit with the stabilization.
I those of you going for the A7sii or A7rii will be very pleased with it. Combined with a rig or support it would be rock solid.
And this is just 3 Axis since I used old vintage glass.

Exactly. Atleast they're listening. Take Olympus. We've voiced our concern about 30p only with the E-M1 from day one. To this date, they haven't done anything for video except pehaps ironically including the following:
'You wanted better video? We're giving you worse!', like... Olympus, why don't you just straight up spit in my face already.

I've used my friend's A7ii and the inbuilt IBIS seems awesome to me. As long as you aren't doing huge pans or anything it seems great. It's so liberating just being able to walk around with any lens attached and getting some stabilisation without a tripod or rig. I guess if it's a professional job then maybe it's a different story but I think it's wonderful that Sony are going down this path. They'll get better and better at it to with each camera.
