Here's this I shot on the sony f3 and fs700.
And now more and more reason to rejoice -the fs700 and f3 price drops to now around 1k used - cheaper than the NX1 or A7S and better sensor, better motion, and it is such great news - thank you latest and greatest technology.  Because I still think there is a lot of magic to be had from what you can do with the f3 and fs700 - and save yourself $3000 that you can put towards lenses or other things.
The march to newer and newer technology makes the old stuff so much cheaper and with the same results.

The device you want exists in the K1M. It just requires a little bit of extra work for it to attach. Sony have already given you 2 more options than any other DSLR manufacturer! And you complain because one of the options is a little brittle, and you can't use the device that attaches via a small area of electric contact points as a second handle..?

Sony implementing a menu system that's easy to understand and makes sense from a user perspective WOULD be groundbreaking!!!
They tried to hard to go the Alexa-style menu route with the F5/55 and failed so, so miserably

S-LOG 3 and SGAMUT3.cine would make this camera a star. I don't think most people realize what a difference it makes in grading, but the color science with Sony's Type A LUT is very, very close to Alexa.

I really doubt it'll be full frame. The APS-C modes of the A7S and A7R II have performed better than full frame anyway, so why bother? Make a great S35 camera and let the FF nuts use a speed booster.

    Imaging-Resource had a good review.
    http://www.imaging-resource.com/news/2015/09/02/primes-people-tamron-relaunches-sp-line-two-sharp-affordable-prime-lenses
"For those of us preferring (or needing) to focus manually, these new lenses are a joy to use. Tamron put a lot of effort into tuning both new SP lenses for, as they describe it, "high-grade MF operation". Both have a very long focus throw that allows for precise focus adustments, and the focus mechanism has a really great feel, as well."

Tamron announced 2 new FF lenses for Canon / Nikon / Sony A:
The SP35mm F/1.8 VC USD and the SP45mm F/1.8 VC USD. Info and samples here: http://tamron-new-sp.eu/#/
    So, why game changers?
First world FF 50mm equivalent to be stabilized, a game changer for video. Concerning the 35mm, it is a first for Nikon too. Only Canon has a 35mm IS but slower.  World shortest MFD for the same focal length: 0.2m (7.9 in) for the 35mm, (0.4x magnification, almost like a macro. For eg, the 100mm Zeiss Makro Plannar is 0.5x). This is huge in photo & video and super nice to have on a 35mm (for creativity and new perspective) First reviews are mind blowing (bokeh & sharpness). Sharpness is apparently on Sigma Art level. Cost is reasonable: 600USD. Considering stabilization and optical quality, I am fine with the price.  First reviews are mind blowing (bokeh & sharpness). Sharpness is apparently on Sigma Art level. Look at the samples above... Bokeh and detail wide open look promising.
    Your thoughts?

    I think the FS700 is a bargain at $4k
One of the nicest 4K images via HDMI you can get.
Don't forget it does raw via HD-SDI too.
Fantastic slow-mo and built in ND.
    Very similar sensor to F5.
The ergonomics look ugly and it has the Sony fiddly menus & buttons but don't let that put you off because the images with an external recorder are stunning.
Just for internal 1080/24p though there are better solutions.
So if you plan to go for it, pair it with the Odyssey 7Q+ and factor in that extra $2k.
So it is really a $6k package but still a total bargain.

Almost! I wanted something for 4K that was a little bit more like the 5" Ninja Blade.
But then again... there's the PIX-E5(H) which right now might just be the capturing monitor of the hour. Would've been nice to see these other companies (Atomos, Convergent Design and Blackmagic) following up on their lead though.

IronFilm reacted to Astro in GH4 V-Log $99
An interesting post from Illya Freedman
For the record, 8-Bits can absolutely be enough for log space.
What matters most is the quality of your bits, and what you attempt to make those bits do.
Here's the thing, and this is absolutely something you won't hear from anyone else, V-Log-L on the GH4 is not the last significant update for the GH4! There's about 3x people outside of Panasonic that actually knows how much power is lurking under that hood.
I have no idea if future updates will be contingent on this upgrade, but this camera is already producing more apparent resolution that several top end cameras made just for cinema. I projected a scientific test on a Christie 4K projector on a 25' screen in February 2014 which proved this. Now with V-Log-L, the humble GH4 just overtook the DR of several "professional" cameras costing many thousands more.

@myJTP   I would not wait on Canon for anything    Those guys are not really addressing the 4k market at all and I bet its still a while before any 4k dslr at all.  They will not put in a dslr before the C100 mark II and that is not even a year old yet.   I think get a gh4 is a huge vaule for what it offers and then add vlog to that... damn this is monster of a camera for under 1500 bucks with vlog or get one used and its even cheaper.

Was about to purchase vlog from US and thought easier to purchase from Panasonic UK.
Sounded sensible way to go or so I thought.
Phoned Panasonic UK to order and quess what, they know nothing about all this vlog news or what vlog was never mind the GH4R which they didnt know about either.
They were not interested in my queery at all and probably thought I was a crank until I mentioned I would post what they had said on the internet, then they got interested lol
So after much apologising they said they would get back to me.
Going to go ahead and purchase from US site for an easy life.

Is it 10 bit?  I guess not. I think it should be 10 bit for a paid upgrade if the camera can handle it. If this was the case there would be no question whether it was worth it. People would be going out and buying new gh4s in anticipation.

I just noticed, that the JVC is planning on bringing a lot of features via a new firmware update, which will only further improve the features on the camera:

IronFilm reacted to TheRenaissanceMan in Sony USA Manager Mark Weir explains why the a7rII can’t do 10bit and why it has no flip screen.
Nearly identical, actually. The biggest difference is in depth, due to the GH4's deeper, more comfortable grip.
    http://camerasize.com/compare/#381,624
That's an outright lie. The Blackmagic cameras use active thermoelectric cooling to keep their sensors at peak performance and prevent stopping for cool-downs. In fact, this is one of the reasons they're such battery hogs--that cooling system sucks a ton of juice.

Clearly a smart engineering decision, since neither camera has heat management issues. That stabilization sucks compared to Olympus'--and even most lens-based stabilizers--anyway. Those cameras are also less than half the price of the A7R II.

The E-M5 II has a 2.7mm increase in width, 3.9mm decrease in depth from the original. Clearly the articulating screen isn't adding bulk.

No, we're criticizing them because they can't match their competitors in basic areas, like bit depth, heat management, AF performance, battery life, stills compression, color science, IS performance, and general ergonomics. Last time I checked, falling behind your competitors was a valid reason to criticize a company.

It's not my job to think about the physics of it. It's theirs. And if they can't think about it long enough to come up with solutions instead of ways to buff their spec sheets, they're going to get this reaction next time, too.

Yes, we are complaining that the headline feature of the camera (4K internal) craps out in 15 minutes. Too bad they didn't manage to pack in a proper heatsink, an intuitive UI, or a battery that lasts more than an hour and a half.

Seems reasonable to me, basically getting a new camera. I hope there is not a huge backlash about this, software costs money and it is amazing to see a company greatly improve what is a relativity old camera.

IronFilm got a reaction from JazzBox in Help choosing a camera for doc and short films...
    Just don't!
    a) why reward a company which has had such a terrible attitude to their consumers for filmmaking? Canon more or less accidentally stumbled into this niche, then ignored the HDSLR enthusiasts
    b) invest in Nikon F Mount lenses instead which will leave you with greater flexibility of choices and cheaper adapters

As for cameras, what kind of documentary films and what kind of short films? And which of the two are more important to you? (As they can have conflicting needs)
Also, what is your background coming into this? For instance a BMPCC or Samsung NX1 are both absolutely FANTASTIC cameras, arguably each the best in class for their niche. Yet at the same time.... they're not really for everybody, especially if they're new to this. While a Panasonic GH4 / G7 or Sony RX10mk2 or Sony X70 / AX100 could be far better more general purpose choices.

Received my color checker a while go, but just got a chance to audition it. and well, I wish I'd sprung for one of these sooner. Now I get the skintones I prefer from the GH4's Natural profile and can quickly balance the image before grading it. I'm thinking I should just permanently mount the color chart to the slate during production.
Here's a sample. Uncorrected frame followed by the instantly balanced version using the color checker grid. I did no other adjustments.
    GH4, SLR Magic 25mm @T/2.8, Kowa Bell & Howell, Rectilux 3FF-W, Hoya ProND 4.
    ISO 200, Natural, Contrat 0, Sharpness -5, NR -5, Saturation -2, Tint 0.
