Although nowadays GH5 and 5d 4k raw () are getting most of our attention, my partner GX80 doesnt let me down. Nothing special, yet another festival recap. This time however, I started getting used to color masks to remove the orange/green tint. Not perfect yet, plenty of room for improvement. Tell me what you think:

Do not touch the button! Do not take a cookie! No joke!
Everytime there's a negative involved, you're starting to think otherwise.
The big joke here is Canon. Period. Though I'm not sure that's even funny. They should really up their game with their con-/prosumer camera line-up. Like, how significant the 5DmkII and T2i/550D have been. So meaningless are their releases nowadays. If you look at Panasonic, Sony, even Fujifilm, Olympus and Nikon, they've made leaps in these last few years.

it is quite awesome, that the losless tele converter now also works in 4K (in contrast to the GX80, sadly), so that users get a 1.4x crop which is nearly the same as having two focal lengths with just one lens. This together with the Summilux 12 as praised by @jonpais would make it quite awesome... Must resist.

Convince Panasonic to make it variable like Sony does, that way you get a whole range of focal lengths with the one lens or use a fast prime as a zoom (12 1.4  zoom lens anyone?).     Wonder if they could do that via firmware?

When you buy and sell used camera gear  you need to be careful. A lot of stolen stuff floats around and markets like eBay makes it easy for them to disappear. That’s why a service like Stolen Camera Finder is a godsend.
    http://www.stolencamerafinder.com/
I recently bought a Leica T. A lovely camera. For street shooting I would say its the best camera I’ve ever used. Totally in love!
But this is not about the camera.
The price was fine, the seller had a long history, everything seemed legit. He even provided the serial number. When I got it home I tested it out and everything was fine. The day after I had to leave for a tripp and I naturally brought the camera. It was not until I got home that I remembered that I should just do a routine check of the number on Stolen Camera Finder.
Why I didn’t do this beforehand, like I usually do is beyond me…
Stolen Camera Finder works by crawling the internet and sites like Flickr, registering EXIF Data.
In many cameras the unique serial number of the camera and lens are imbedded in the data. You then simply drag-n-drop an image on the site or enter the number manually. If the crawler gets a match its BINGO!
    You can:
Find a stolen camera Report a found camera Checkout previous owners of camera Track stolen and reposted images So What Happened?
I entered the number manually and… Bingo!
It had been reported stolen in Spain two years ago. So I filed a report of a “Camera Found” and waited for a day or two.
Since I didn’t hear anything I contacted Matt, who runs the site.
He has now put me in touch with the original owner who lives in Italy and we are working out the details on how it will be returned!
All in all I will probably loose a bit of money since the seller probably wont pay up and/or used a fake name etc. But I will certainly gain a bit on my “Feel Good Account”.
And at the end of the day, I would love it if the same thing happened to me if anything ever got stolen.
A bit of a sunshine story imo
(now back to searching for a new Leica T, like its slogan says, "Easy to use, Hard to forget".)

Sorry for starting up another GH5 thread but figured this could focus on test footage/your first go with the camera. Here's mine - got it today, had 10mins of light left after work so took the kids to the park.
A mix of 4K 50p and 180fps VFR, daylight WB, iso 200, Sigma 50mm on Speedbooster XL, Natural profile. Shot mainly wide open. No ND filter so controlled exposure with high shutter speed.
PRO's so far: Options galore, amazing build, EVF/LCD= amazing. Picture looks GOOD! IBIS = incredible!
CON's so far: Annoying sensor that flicks from EVF to LCD (can this be turned off?). Biggest con for me is not being able to flick to 180fps quickly. Had to dig into the menu every time. Really hope this can be assigned to a Function button but doesn't look like it so far. Grrr.
I'm a GH4 and A7Sii user so looking forward to comparing. Be hard to beat a7sii but this beast might just do it!

Honestly I just don't understand why someone doesn't make a fast zoom for micro 4/3rds? Is it size? I used the 12-35mm once and actually liked it... wish it had hard stops, but the focus ring was at least tolerable. If Panasonic or Sigma or Tokina came out with 12-35mm f2 lens or a 12-24mm f2 lens, it would make me want a GH5 even more... right now I can only think about primes and I can only afford a used 25mm Voigtlander... of course... with that lens... what more do you need?

jase reacted to sgreszcz in Panasonic G85 review - is there any need to get an Olympus E-M1 Mark II for video?
I'm shooting a documentary right now with 2 GX80 (mostly school-type events), and other than the EVF being difficult to focus with and no punch-in magnification during recording, they are great, small, unobtrusive tools and I like the image quality.  The clients and teachers have commented on how they forget that I'm there most of the time and I can fit an entire mobile recording studio including two tripods, a monopod and audio stuff in a backpack with lots of room to spare.  The Olympus does have better IBIS, but the GX80 is pretty good too unless you are using a wide lens (distortion wobble) or move jerkily.
I switch between the Voigtlander 17.5/42.5 combo, the PL15/1.7 + Olympus 75.1.8, or the Panasonic 2.8 zooms depending on how much space I have, light, or how fast things are moving.  I've been really considering replacing the Voigtlanders with the PL12/1.4 and PL42.5/1.2 as it is so much easier to ensure focus with the back button...  but then I look at the images.

Not watched Max Yuryev's video but it seems like he craptalks the E-M1 II a lot in it.
The 4K picture is superb. Moire? Is he talking about the 1080p?
The dynamic range is also very good with the flat picture profile.
Worse low light than G85 - again doesn't correlate to what I see at all.
Can't trust the AF-C - well you can't on anything.
As for the codec I guess he doesn't understand how VBR works and hence a lot of other cameras with a H.264 codec.
This camera has a ton of positives -
Very good image quality in 4K.
Nicer feeling body than the GH5, feels better built as well.
Best rolling shutter and best stabilisation performance on the market.
Ergonomics for video work nicely even though it's primarily a stills camera.
    Superb colour
    Superb skintones
    Excellent codec
    Very big EVF
    Amazing battery life
Amazing stills features like 60fps RAW bursts at 20MP and very good AF (for stills)

It's a location scout, test video... it isn't supposed to be good, but it can still be cool, and it is.
Loved the shot of the lone metal chair in the middle of the room... really cool image... creepy.
I really like the 1080p out of that camera... they're cheap as shit now too... a shame that 3-axis IBIS doesn't work for video... it would be a great little run and gun cam.
It's so annoying Panasonic went so full force with 4K and only gave the high bitrate 1080p to their GH line of cameras.

Another example with the GX85. The shoot was a bit of a disaster! Record company said they needed the video for the next week. We had a Sunday to shoot. Only one venue available. Picked up lights on Saturday. Group arrived late on Sunday. Get to the location and plug in the lights...fuse switches off! We could only use overhead fluorescent lights! Arrrrgh! Anyway, the GX85 held up quite well all things considered.
    Lenses: SLR Magic 12mm T1.6 and Voigtlander 25mm F0.95. A mixture of 4K and 1080 50p

Sorry, but if you lose resolution from motion blur at 4K, surely you're also losing resolution from motion blur at 1080p? I'm not really getting this argument.

It's kinda pointless anyway, agreed. If you swing the camera around enough to get so much motion blur, chances are there's something intense happening anyway and resolution isn't going to be important that moment.

I did. Like I said, the 4k image is spellbinding, but so is the 1080p image. And since no one sits like 1 meter away from his 65" TV, why even bothering? Heck, my audience doesnt see it, so why should I care? These are questions I am asking myself.

Here is my first 4K-based adventure with the GX80. I am suprised I didnt really miss the slow-mo at all. Although rendering takes ages on my Macbook Pro 2011 (3min video took 3:45h for rendering!), editing with proxy files works without any hickup. I am amazed by the quality and I think I will continue using 4K from now on. Lenses used: Sigma 18-35, but mostly the Panasonic 20mm. I already sold the Speedbooster XL and the Sigma, it is just too huge and even with the 4K crop one sees the vignette when the stabilization kicks in.

Yesterday I watched my more recent videos on my brothers 65" 4K TV, obviously starting with my latest 4k project. I was really blown away about the detail and the resolution. However, then I watched a 1080p (60p) video and I was suprised how good it looked on that same TV. I dont really know whether I would be able to spot the 4k content vs 1080p content from the GX80.
Makes me think how great the Blackmagic cams are... must resist.

True. The shots where i hold still are breathtaking. Yet, I want the moving, so I am better of with 4k than 1080p anyway  However I really would love sth with a high bitrate codec to avoid the compression artifacts on water surfaces, etc..

Definitely. This is one of the things I dont really like on my GX80, even when using the LCD the video looks sooo much better later in post on my computer. Would trade for better screen / EVF any day.

I don't really understand why you ask me that question as I have never questioned it's capabilities. To answer the question you should however define what a filmmaker is first, but I'll give it try  I don't consider myself a filmmaker for instance, and there are reasons why I haven't bought the Sigma yet, even if it's fairly cheap. I would probably have come to the same conclusion as @jase if I bought one. The slightly/much? better performance just isn't worth it due to the size and weight. Didn't you also somewhat come to that conclusion?
I know it's a fantastic lens and I would probably bought it if I was making narratives, ads, etc on low budget for a living, but I'm not. I primarily make food videos and yoga videos for youtube with native lenses and even then I usually stop down to preferably f/2.5 or more to get what I want in focus. I only shoot on wider apertures if I don't have enough light, and when I do I usually regret it later (instead of pushing the ISO) because I wanted to have more of the subject in focus. A huge f/1.2 lens isn't going to make my videos any better, and if I would use the Sigma at f/3.5 the resolution/sharpness benefit wouldn't be big enough to justify it for me.
I'm totally with you that it's a great lens, but I don't think it's the best lens for everyone.
I would much rather have a kit with a nice slowish zoom (PL 12-60mm), and high quality primes for low light that I can carry everywhere and use for all of my projects; food, yoga, travel, stills, portraits, short films etc. When I started to do photography in 2012 I chose the m43 system exactly for that reason, it's not the best out there but it's the best allrounder in my opinion.

The 25 / .095 is my favourite lens - although for practicality I almost always have the 12-35 and 35-100 lenses on my GH4. Every time i use the 25 i just want to lick the screen - it looks so good - and i could recognise the look in your excellent little video.

Using 1 focal length and lens delvers a really nice consistent look.
You did a great job of keeping the jitters out of a lot of shots -considering how hard this lens is to use handheld - i always have at least a monopod on mine- the pana 12-35 works great handheld though

Funnily enough the voigt focuses backwards compared to my panas. I usually stop it down to at least 1.2 unless i am in a desperate low light situation.
Weirdly enough i find it easier to get focus below f2 on this lens as the extra depth of field blur allows me to locate my sharps / focal plane more easily. Its ironic actually... i have got into trouble shooting at f5 on my 7-14 Oly because its hard to pick if you have just missed critical focus slightly.

The Voigt 25/ .095 lens is going to SHINE on my GH5 though, and see a  lot more use- the IBIS is going to be a godsend!
