Any thoughts on 5D raw workflow, is it really so bad ? The results are breathtaking.

Indeed. In fact, I suggest that the following video be the official response of this forum to Red:

Surely this is a sick joke? Red should change their name to green, since that is clearly all they want from the film making community.

Just to let you know. When I first downloaded the beta it was 12.0b1. Now that I'm upgrading my work rig and installing all from scratch the version number for todays download was 12.0b4.
    So it's a latest build I asume.

    Either free, or paid.
    Yes, I have been Goggeling...

I am on a PC, if that matters...

Thanks for the all the interesting glass Brian that you have been involved with.
What would be interesting is working af for birding glass on GH4. Since there is still not proper nature lenses .. such adapter would not need speed boosting. The current competition seems to lack proper af capability for non native lenses. naturally this might not be your field of expertise and some other folks at metabones do the electronics.
Beeing able to use Tamron 150-600 and Sigma 150-600 with working af for MFT mounts would be sweeet. ( i know it's very niche)
BTW is there non radioactive way to make such high performance optics? Lanthanum in my understanding is little bit radioactive. Heh perhaps provide small stylished lead lined case for those speedboosters ..

    Hi Julian:
The 0.71x SB ULTRA is intended as a true general-purpose Speed Booster for m43.  The 0.64x XL is a more specialized item tailored for the GH4 and a few other cameras, particularly for the higher crop factor in 4k.  The ULTRA has incredible optical performance all the way across the field, as you can see from the MTF curves.
BTW, the Speed Booster XL and all other m43 Speed Boosters for the Canon-EF lens mount can be upgraded to autofocus by means of a firmware download.  So if you like the XL and want autofocus you can have it.

The first one is it ?
Panasonic should take note. The only reason many people are considering those is in part thanks to no native lenses with IS. For me the idea of using a 300 f4L IS on a GH4 does not sound optimal. BUT for certain nature shooting ideas it might be a decent solution. The weight savings from native lenses would be highly appreciated.
EDIT. seems to me that that ebay store that Linked are selling PRE orders.

Panasonic G6 used (300 dollars) some glass and Zoom H5 (zoom H4 is not that good with proper XLR mics) + a decent mic.  The upcoming OMD-5MII seems promising.. the actual video quality remains to be analyzed.

In an electronic age, that's like saying cell phones should concentrate on only making good phone calls, you don't buy a cell phone to have a good readable screen, or to check your email, or send text messages, or browse the web etc.

i would have bought 3 of these 50MP cameras if it had 4K.  now thanks canon, i will buy ZERO.  and if the 5D4 comes out with 4K and does not top the 1DC or A7s, and has no swivel screen or focus peaking (although this is the 5D "video" model version), i will buy zero as well.  too bad their stupid cinema department is holding down everything in limiting the DSLR products.  if they would bring all features into ONE camera product, they could sell record numbers and be the kings again like in 2008.  now it seems they will lose more and more market share because nobdy needs a canon camera body anymore.  for a pure 50MP photo camera i'd buy medium format.

I dare say it's time for Panasonic's next GH4 update and soon.  Raw out the HDMI port, VFR out the HDMI port, other aspect ratios out the HDMI port.  Other than that I love my GH4.

yes a lot of times you can reach out to companies and express your thoughts on how to improve their product.  You are doing them a huge favor by being out in the field testing them.  Samsung is showing a great precedent for being so receptive to user feedback.  Panasonic is also very good at this.  But this is pretty much unheard of - how quickly they responded to user feedback.  I think the OS the camera works on allows this.  It's very exciting news and puts the NX1 definitely in a hotter category.  I am very excited to test it with the new log like setting.

dpreview posted a short interview with Samsung.  They made an interesting comments related to sensor readout speed that would suggest it can do 4k @‌ 24p with full sensor readout.
    http://***URL removed***/articles/7808127857/ces-2015-samsung-interview-mirrorless-to-outsell-dslrs-in-three-years
"The sensor readout is very fast - 240 frames per second. For autofocus object tracking we read at 120Hz. We can do full resolution sensor readout at 25 frames per second, and digital signal processing [with a new chip and algorithms] at 15 frames per second. "

All great choises with their unique strenghts and weaknesses.

size of lenses = some what GH4 (smallest possible lenses) combined size + weight

    low light - Sony

Most future proof 4k / best quality in good light is - perhaps Samsung. then again can you acchieve that at decent enought level with Samsung lenses? is some what a question mark.. the samsung "proper lenses" have nott been tested at dxo. even tho like Andrew test seems to show that CA might not be that much of an issue.

Both mft and sony platforms are speculated / known to be getting interesting technological options later down the road. Sony A7000 (perhaps with 4k output)  A9/A7RII GH5, Olympus EM5-II / EM6 even tho those cameras may not end up beeing video specific unil GH5. Samsungs platform evolution past NX1 is even more ellusive question mark.

I'm personally learning with GH2 and G6 for now. During the spring I will likely invest into a cheaper GH4 or something else.

Do what I do .. learn with cheap camera.  get lights now from ebay. etc .. LEARN .. perhaps buy used or cheaper GH4 later. I sense this upcoming spring time will be soper hot competition between all brands. Even Canon will likely release a FF mirrorless.

Brellivids got a reaction from nathanleebush in Sony A7 II review - 5 axis stabilisation in video mode
There was this one test on youtube that I saw (I cannot recall by who). In that test a important prospect was that aprently the A7S is bit too thin for follow focus work. The bottom part of the camera is too thin and that leasds to bending vertically. So in that sense a wider base of a camera is not a bad thing.
