  1. LOL not really. There's a lot of trash gear online. But I prefer not having to swap out garbage, <90 CRI, osram bulbs. I also like to being able to use 4' lamps instead of those little itty bitty ones: they're ubiqitous, infinitely cheaper and more useful for interior ambient and keying. But each to his own I suppose. I didn't think anyone actually used the lights you talk about. Fuck, I can imagine how nasty that shit looks with 8-bit cams. Would be a nightmare to correct in post. Maybe just YouTubers? Can't fathom a client paying for that sort of light.

  3. Best wait for the MKII with included filter thread and removable hood. Sigma has made some weird decisions lately (by not catering to the tiny video market, lol, how dare they design products for still shooters. Don't they know how important we are! :> ) I was all set to buy the 50-100mm until I realized the tripod collar is non-removable. Doh! Not a huge deal breaker but it makes me less interested in trading up my Nikkor zooms.

Highlight roll off appears smoother with the Ursa. Kine is crazy sharp. Could be down to focus, lens, whatever; but the Kine is almost unpleasantly sharp.
  6. Yeah web compression kills that Brandon Li/Dalessandri style. The longer takes help tho, if you followed their faster cut flow, the image really tends to get trashed by low bitrates.
  7. I haven't been able to stream 4K since January from vimeo. Just shy of gigabit service, I'm at 940 Mbps down. lol Glad I didn't renew my pro account back in October.
  8. Clean lowlight although blacks are super crushed. Dynamic range suffers from the grade too. Looks very digital. I'd love to see the log/flat ingest. A lot of the tonality and detail issues are down to how YouTube compresses the hell out of the picture. There's too much movement and not enough noise. I'm sure the upload version looks much, much better. I'm more impressed by how well the GH4 has held up. If this is what's to come from Canon, I'm sure people who bought into m43 will be happy knowing their investment is sound. Grade is also terrible for a Canon camera. People hate on Sony's colours. Obviously they chose to go cold and green but it'd make more sense to play to the brand's strengths.

  13. So many questions. I've read the user manual and have looked online but I still haven't found the answers I'm looking for. Is image stabilization (SteadyShot) available in all frame rates and resolutions (specifically HFR 1080p60 and 1080p120)? Is HFR 1080p60 and 1080p120 available in crop mode (APS-C/Super 35mm)? Is there a change in image quality (moire, aliasing, macroblocking) between XAVC S 4K and APS-C/Super 35mm recording modes? Are all ISO levels 50 to 409600 available in crop mode (APS-C/Super 35mm)? Is focus peaking available in video mode? Can the PlayMemories Mobile app for Android and iOS be used to change focus while recording video with the A7S II?
  14. Cineroid comes to mind. They're a little bulky for VFs but they can double as tiny monitors. Plus I think there's a high resolution one at a reasonable price.

  16. I dunno Ed, I wouldn't shortchange the A7S II. White balance issues and 8-bit colour aside, it's a fucking hell of a camera.
  17. What's the max load? Never understood the demand for the 4th axis. A vest with the mechanical arm is a much better investment: movement is smoother and it can be used with any gimbal.

  19. Yes exactly. I went Nikon because of the manual aperature (which is declicked using the Metabones adapters,) and because it can be used on both Nikon and Canon bodies. That said, EF might be a better choice if you want to use autofocus for stills and video.
  20. Obviously too heavy, but it should meet your CA and sharpness requirements: Sigma 18-35 with both a dumb adapter and focal reducing adapter. On a BMPCC that gives you a range of 32-106mm f1.0-1.8. If you're on m43, pretty hard to beat. The hyperprimes from slrmagic are also awesome, but much pricier and their housing differs from lens to lens. The art zoom is a rig up once affair that can be get any shot wide to portrait. I'm in love with this lens. And after renting a Zeiss Otus set in EF, I'm still convinced the Sigma is an amazing choice.

  23. If you don't monetize your youtube uploads, ZERO ads will be served on your video. (Using an audio track you don't have the rights to is another story.) The downside to YouTube is its terrible encoding. Any motion, any noise, any fine detail = macroblocking. VP9 is such a welcomed update, bit it's only marginally better than the old H264 files.
  24. Looks like you would need shave off about 10 cm from an FD lens for it reach infinity. Going off memory, rear mount glass on an FD lens is pretty parallel to the mounting plane. It'd be pretty damn hard to come up with 10 cm. Flange distances: FD 42.00 mm PL 52.00 mm
