Yeh I meant the f1.4. BTW my Sony 50mm FE just arrived today. I was afraid it would be slower and louder than that Fuji lens but its actually the opposite. I don't have a Fuji camera anymore BTW but I still have the lens. I'd have to rent the camera to do the test... might see if I can raise some funds for it

So my methodology for a skintone comparison would be: Use various models with various ethnicities. Standard profile comparison (Fuji Provia vs Sony Standard or perhaps one of the Cine profiles). Once with auto WB and again with manual WB (using one of these) Using Fuji 35mm f1.8 and Sony FE 50mm f1.8 In a variety of locations with different lighting. I think I would also do more takes using Sony's other profiles; SLOG2, SLOG3 and HLG. The objective of this comparison would be to get enough data in order to gauge the differences between the various profiles and make LUTs to match them to the best looking one. Does that seem right?

Well the thread was originally meant to be a simple post that a new firmware was out and hopefully for people to discuss how good or flawed it is. But Kisaha just has to take any opportunity to gloat about his beloved camera. I see it in so many threads and its just getting annoying.

The orange isn't really an issue at that saturation level, especially after grading. I'm more just talking about the SOOC standard profiles here. Sorry to have derailed this thread!

@Kisaha At the end of the day, it's subjective. But I will comment on each scene to help you understand why I feel the Fuji renders better. This is not the best example because the Fuji has some weird stuff going on here with the levels clipping or something (maybe due to DR400 being used) and also theres some green tones under the eyes. But overall I would choose the Fuji here due to the amount of red showing in the Sony. Even her hair looks red. See how the highlights in the Sony are burnt here while the Fuji maintains a consistent tonal range and colour transitions smoothly. The Fuji shows more warmth (WITHOUT looking orange, which is my complaint with Panasonics). Again note how the transitions between the different colours of her skin are quite smooth on the Fuji compared to the Sony. This one is extra subjective. The Sony has what I believe to be a more accurate representation of the subject. However, the Fuji has quite a filmic response here. More warmth, nicer contrast, less harsh. This is actually an example of an area which bothered me about Fuji rendering. Greens are often too vibrant and if you have a lot of plants/grass in a scene, it can all end up looking like a green mush).

I will miss having the Fuji rendering but there are a lot of things about the Sony which I find advantageous Body button and dial arrangement Use of full frame lenses uncropped Eye-AF More natural AF and AE transitions in video Better DR and noise control Auto-WB with preference for white or ambience Battery life Less purple flaring (see the accompanying article linked in the video description) Better 1080p Less jerky IBIS in video Less recording limits Built in microphone jack

Hah, I guess I don't have to do any tests then! Regarding colour, I think it's pretty clear that the Fuji produces less harsh results on skin. And the balance between the colours in the nature scene, with the water, greenery and sky, is also nicer.

@sanveer I chose the Tamron over the 24-105 because it is lighter, cheaper and has a larger aperture. Also I am a person used to shooting primes so having a 28-75 is already more variety than I'm used to. I will test out the HLG Vs Slog.

Hmm this camera definitely has a skintone issue, particularly with brown-ish people. Lot of orange going on and splotchy colour.

I wasn't trying to defend Fuji. Just wanted to know what improvement they wanted

I've never used or even seen a BM camera myself but I've seen plenty of videos and they have the highest proportion of "omg this looks good" of any videos from consumer cameras I've seen.

Another option is the Canon G7x mark ii. Smaller sensor but versatile lens, good ergonomics and autofocus and decent image with nice natural colours. It can be found on eBay for about £350 (€400), so good budget option.

I don't think the Sony a6000 has a mic input. It has a smart hot shoe which allows their specific hot shoe mics to fit in. But there is also no way to control the mic levels either. You'll have to do some research but I seem to recall this. So if on-board audio is necessary then the a6000 won't fit your needs. Otherwise I think it does. It's cheap. Has good cheap lenses with good AF. Just an easy camera to use with decent image (not the best or worst) quality.

The a6000 is a great choice, with better 1080p than its successors, the a6300 and a6500. Slightly sharper and much less moire/aliasing (after firmware update). I also prefer the skintones of it compared to the G7 generation of Panasonic cameras.

What's with this clickbait title? It's a great feature but not all that useful when you have to rack between more than 3 different focus points or don't know where your subject will be next, as in an event or documentary shoot.
