  1. I bought an old Hi8 camcorder because I think they have a certain gritty charm to them. Have been using it alongside the A7 III to film an indie band. Quite interesting to see the difference
  2. Great suggestions everyone, thanks I can't really afford those shotgun mic enclosures so i'll just have to pray for a less windy day and hope the deadcat suffices next time. @newfoundmass Just an acoustic. No speakers
  3. It's not a venue or anything. Just me with my camera in an outdoor location. I'll look into the adapter. Didn't know one was needed
  4. Hello forum users Over this weekend I filmed and tried to record two musicians, one on vocals and one on guitar, using my budget equipment - a £10 lav mic and a Rode VideoMicro, using my old Zoom H1 and Samsung phone as the recorders. The lav mic + Zoom H1 combo did alright but the Rode + Phone combo failed. It captured mostly wind noise. In fact I suspect the phone decided to use its internal microphone for some reason. Needless to say, I was ill prepared on the audio front. So now I'm thinking of upgrading. My budget is still pretty tight though. For the recorder, i'm thinking the Tascam DR60D or DR70D because they have multiple XLR inputs and I believe a 3.5mm input. Could someone please confirm with me if they can record the XLR and 3.5mm inputs at the same time? My cheap lav mic did alright (it seemed to capture the notes pretty well) but I'm wondering if other mics would be more pleasant (similar to how Blackmagic cameras are generally more pleasant on skin tones than Sony mirrorless cameras). My budget for a replacement mic (lav mic or handheld mic) is about £50 (60 EUR / 70 USD). I suspect my Rode VideoMicro will fair better once its hooked up to an actual recorder, however I believe those Tascams only have a single 3.5mm input. So I may need to get an XLR based one. As I mentioned in the title, the recording will potentially be outdoors so it needs to be very directional in order to minimise wind intrusion. My budget for a replacement shotgun mic is probably max £200 (230 EUR / 270 USD). Please let me know any recommendations you have. And also any other forums where I should ask about this. Thank you
  5. I bought this Dot Photo battery for £20 https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07BQFRG5B/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Used it for 1-2 hours (not continuously) in about 22C weather. No problems with it so far. I think it was still at about 70% after that time.
  6. All of those cameras have varying image quality unfortunately. Even some of the cameras with same sensors as each other have different video quality, such as the 80d and m6.
  7. 2004 called. They want your post back.
  8. Has anyone tried the remote app with this? Seems to be missing some very basic functionality like tap to focus and picture profile selection
  9. Can someone explain to me what the movie mode on the dial is for? Because it doesn't appear to save settings independently from the other modes so I don't see the point of switching to it really. Also has anyone got any tips on what picture profile to use for what situations?
  10. Did you actually look at Andrew's article? he takes one picture with an m43 camera and 17mm and another with a full frame camera and 35mm. The perspective is shown to be the same. If this wasn't true then most everything you see on daytime TV would be extremely distorted as a lot of is filmed with small focal lengths due to small video sensors.
  11. I found something out quite useful today. You can actually change the steadyshot focal length WHILST recording when using manual lenses. Useful if using a zoom lens.
  12. I have noticed that too on Flickr but I think it may be just a coincidence because there are more pros using FF
  13. @KnightsFan Ahh right, I misunderstood his point then. Fair enough.
  14. The last video I saw of his (a couple years ago), he was claiming that m43 lens manufacturers were mis-marketing their products and that they should be calling their f2.8 lenses f5.6. And seemed to forget that other companies including Canon have been making lenses for crop sensors for years even before m43. Should Canon be calling their 17-55mm f2.8 an f4 instead?
  15. I wish you'd start a Youtube show Andrew to combat all the misinformation (esp from Northrup) out there
  16. @jonpais unlimited recording is only offered on the GH5 afaik. And its because they pay the extra european tax
  17. I have found the metering in general to be somewhat strange. It's not really doing what I expect it to (having used previous Sony's as well as other brands). Maybe it's to do with the face priority metering
  18. Ah I was wondering why it looked quite compressed
  19. Still haven't shot properly with this camera yet but did a quick test of the s&q mode. Love it. Footage is quite sharp and relatively free of digital artefacts (sharpening/moire/aliasing).
  20. Just to be sure it's the camera, have you turned off the IBIS and checked if the problem still occurs?
  21. Is there some way to get this camera to record video clips into the same folder as stills and name them sequentially with the stills?
  22. Yeh it's good enough. Not as good as GH5 ibis but good enough
