Ok, now I'm seriously interested. The great thing about Samsung is that they don't have more expensive cameras to protect, and they listen!

Yes, FuzzyNormal, I wouldn't say ever had a "problem" with skin tones until I shot some RAW with a Canon 50D.  That is, most video had a "video" look which I felt I was stuck with.  But RAW changed everything for me.  Then I went to an EOS-M, then a BMPCC and feel that both camera deliver great looks.  I never get tired of RAW (just the workflow). Anyway, I've always wanted the nice crisp image, small file sizes, and video ergonomics of Panasonic cameras.  What happened is that I wanted the high dynamic range, flat look, of my BMPCC with the GH4.  So I used Cine-D and dialed down the contrast and changed the hue TOO MUCH.  What I didn't realize is that the low-contrast look I was getting was AT THE EXPENSE of color, which meant the skin tones went to crap.  So I can understand how this problem seems silly to you Fuzzy because you don't shoot RAW, far as I know, and you haven't pushed the GH4 too far as I did (and should have known better).  The good thing for me, is that it has awaken me to much of the stuff JCS has been writing about for a long time here.  I agree with him, people are biologically sensitive to good skin tone.  If you're doing a very busy video, with many cuts, and high contrast, etc., you don't notice.  But if you're going for a natural look it ain't easy.  If you take a family member, and sit them down for an "interview" where the person has to look at their face for minutes on end I think you'll go through the same thing as other people--the image may not do justice to the person in front of you.

It looks really useful and the grip looks pretty neat.

as long as a source like EOSHD delivers free content, content about the right topics and also mostly helpful, interesting and constructive details, i don't mind even if the blog owner is making 100 grand a month.  there are sources like print magazines that cost 5-10 euros and might be biased more through much bigger financial issues concerning ads.  there are guys like laforet or hurlbut who turned their blogs into money making machines and still do only deliver their personal view. other bloggers only come up with interesting things randomly or come from the photo world.  this is why among billions of pages on the net, EOSHD is one of the very rare sites where you can get closest to what you really want to know.  the amount of time needed to run such a blog might be enourmous, so i think the one who does this job deserves all money and fame he can get.  the bigger problem on this planet are lazy passive people, not busy people who create and think.

My income to buy the 1D C came from a mixture of paid projects and EOSHD revenue but definitely wasn't a light decision to take! I do however see it as an investment back into the blog to keep the quality of content to the highest level.
I love my blog in that it allows me as an artist to put the time into my own filmmaking on my own terms without having to chase commercial work for every waking hour!! It's very valuable to me and I am very lucky but it is also a MASSIVE amount of work to keep it going. It's always on my mind, never quite drops into the background!

thanks guys- really nice to hear.  The outdoor shots because I didn't have ND for the lens I went to a f/8 on the lens and a 1/1000 shutter - bright bright daylight - shooting at 100 ISO - made it too sharp.

Yes it looks no different than c log when you see it ungraded.  Shooting at minus 10 contrast (on the camera) and -35 contrast in the wondershare transcode is quite amazing looking.  This is a super clean looking image at 800 ISO.  Even 1600 ISO looks great.
I am excited to sit down in the my studio and do some tests with in camera vs post saturation to see what feels better.  Also the newest firmware update does improve the color science and seems to make the auto white balance more responsive.  And need to play more with different IMPULZ luts profiles.

I'm editing the 4k files on a mac - in final cut pro 7 then taking into resolve.
The rolling shutter in 1080p - I haven't tested this mode yet.  I assume its doing an in camera down convert so I would hypothesize that it would be the same.
I haven't done a formal test on rolling shutter but I rate it around the Sony A7S mode in full frame or maybe the Canon 5D Mark II around - just with my eyes.
But again, rolling shutter can be stopped by making the camera a little bigger w a base plate like a zacuto rod system.  and also my holding stance is pretty poor.  I got away without having to shoot with a Canon 5D Mark II - I never learned the technique as well.  Also this was my first shooting test - I just opened up the box and started shooting.  My next video that I've been shooting over the past week - hopefully it's less shakey.

Any camera is perfect as long as you actually do something with it...besides just take test pictures of leaves and then compare DxO charts the rest of the time.

Or, just wait for the next big/best thing. Have a lot of patience because it never comes.

Xavier Plagaro Mussard reacted to Andrew Reid in Samsung NX1 - which is 4K video and which is the 28MP raw still? Can you tell?
    A is video.

Some people got it perfectly. A bit more compression in the blacks on A and a bit more sharpening in-camera. The raw file had more C/A because Adobe Camera Raw didn't remove it by default and sharpness was left on default as well which is why it looked a little softer.

But the very fact that they look so similar to the general 'audience' with almost a 50-50 split between you on this forum over which was which, shows how good the video is on this camera.

There is a editor currently on the market that processes H.265. It isn't a great editor like Premiere Pro, but it is adequate, none the less. Cyberlink's Power Director 13 has HEVC 265 natively, and multiple choices for uploading to media sites, as well as file formats and discs. Worth a try while waiting for upgrades to other editors currently on the market!

Am I missing something? All those YT vids above have 720p resolution. How am I supposed to judge the quality of the original video?

Furthermore, those seem to be converted by Handbrake, which Andrew noted has inferior conversion quality, no?

So basically, what we see here I re-re-converted video downsampled to about 16% percent of its original resolution.

Can't those in possession of a NX1 post 1:1 stills from the original H265 material?

If the stabilization works well in video, then there are all sorts a flow-on benefits. Compression will work better (vertical and horizontal movements "suit" the algorithms, but roll really screws with it, and fewer small changes to deal with means more data going to things that matter) and rolling shutter effects that delay and spread out camera movements and make things swirl will be reduced. Frankly, the second is really big for me - I can't watch go pro footage most of the time because of the combination of rolling shutter and lots of camera movement is completely disorienting.

Xavier Plagaro Mussard reacted to Igor Campana in Shooting with a 4K pocket camera - the exceptional Panasonic LX100
Andrew you mentioned in your article that the LX100 is the best 4K small camera for aerial imaging. As I have mentioned in my post it is not as long as Panasonic does lock the AV & HDMI Out. So there is 2 things you could do:

    1. change your article & mention that the LX100 does not work for aerial
    2. or ask Panasonic and make pressure on them to change this in a fw update. We all know that the LX100 could do a HDMI out since it is the same engine like GH4... Im fine if the output is only 720p and with overlays, but we need a signal on the ground or the LX100 WILL NEVER be used for Aerial images on drones...

Thanks for your udnerstandign, I really would appreciate your help in this...
    Thanks

Xavier Plagaro Mussard reacted to yannis.zach in eBay's new postage option: "the Global Shipping Program" = A nightmare!
I had recently 2 awful experiences as a buyer, with this quite new "shipping+taxes" option (or "Global Shipping Program") that eBay uses:

I bought the first item and eBay's shipping company had it for days in their storage place, without never contacting me for delivery. I tried to contact them, and I had to pay for the call €5 (~$6.5), as they charge €1.34 the call, then 0.36/min and they have you waiting for at least 10-12min, without finally accepting your call, with the excuse that the lines are too busy and that you'll have to call later again...
Finally, one day, they came to deliver, but without even ringing my bell, they put it (a signed-for shipment) inside my box...

The second one, they never delivered any parcel, but their tracking status indicates that they did delivered to my hands and that they've put my name as the person who received the parcel... When I opened a dispute on PayPal for this, Paypal in dt time, closed the case, with the excuse that they can't help on this and that I have to find a solution with the seller!... In any other similar case, if the seller had shipped via any other carrier, they could ask him to show them (to PayPal) the proof of delivery, asking this from the shipping carrier... If the shipping company couldn't prove that they had my real signature, then the money had to be returned to me. But as this new company is eBay's (so & PayPal's) business, they of course closed their eyes, as they can't blame their own company. SO, I lost $273.76...

I will NEVER-EVER buy any item from sellers that they are using this "Global Shipping Program" again! NEVER! I've found though that there are hundreds of others with similar, like mine, problems...

If you are selling on eBay and you want to avoid any negative feedback caused by similar cases, never use this option again please.
To be able to do so, please follow this next steps, to block this shipping option from your sales:
Your ebay>>account>>site preferences>>posting and packaging preferences>Offer the Global Shipping Programme, then on the right hand side of the screen change yes to NO and save changes.

By the way I have to say that, with this "Global Shipping Program", buyers are paying more on import taxes, than if they had to pay straight to their customs...

    That's all from me.
