Damn Sony and Samsung! Why can't they remove the headphone jack from their water resistant flagships too? Would be way easier for Apple to fuck its customers base.

    Andrew,
Aren't you planing to update/refresh your NX1 Guide with something similar to the ALEXA Log C?
That's in addition to the GammaDR 2 LOG.

    It's a possibility.
GammaDR is barely even flat let alone LOG and when you dial things down flatter in-camera, colour goes a bit haywire. So what I did with the NX1 Guide LOG converter is find a balance between delivering maximum dynamic range from the in-camera non-flat file (there are various tricks and it is important for example not to accidentally clip the RGB range in post with the H.265 files) and maintaining the great colour the NX1 is known for.
Then this image gets converted by my LOG LUT in post to a much flatter image which is compatible with the usual range of LUTs designed for S-LOG, Canon LOG, etc.
Samsung don't have an advanced app like Canon for creating your own gamma curves and colour profiles. Maybe the hacker community can make one.
But it remains such an incredibly powerful piece of hardware with a very simple user interface and great physical ergonomics. It is still cutting edge. That sensor seems to be doing a very nice readout in 120fps to get that much detail in 1080p. Oh and rolling shutter in 1080p is practically zero.
The only weak point is that you have to avoid pushing past ISO 800. Keep it at 100-800 and it is super clean. Past that is emergencies only especially if shooting 100fps or 120fps.
I think aside from the low light capabilities and Dual Pixel AF of the 1D X Mark II the NX1 is my slow-mo camera of choice right now. Sometimes even the video AF-C of the camera with the premium S lenses actually works pretty damn well!

I am getting some lovely results with 120FPS on the hacked Samsung NX1. Latest firmware and the increased bitrates of the hack have done wonders for it since the NX1 first came out. It is much more detailed than the 1D X Mark II 120fps and whips the ass of the mushy A7S II 120fps at a fraction of the cost!! And full Super 35mm field of view!
Just make sure to turn sharpness all the way down in-camera.
Hacked NX1 1080/120p in terms of moire and aliasing is similar to X Pro 2 1080p maybe a bit cleaner.

In the studio test at least, the skin tones have gone to hell on the 5D Mark IV shot in the shadows too.
Which is why - for example - exposing for a window behind your actress and then pulling her out of 6 stops of dark shadows is a really really bad idea
Anyone interested in designing a REAL world DR test for EOSHD? I can start my own comparison catalogue

So let's take a look at the reality behind the hype...
Oh hey it's their own test scene...

+6EV shadow recovery on a shot exposed for the highlights
Samsung NX1 has it for breakfast
The A7R II turns up and has it with milk and tea
And the D750... 2 years old... Mentioned NOWHERE in the DPReview article, is an order of magnitude less noisy at +6EV recovery
All in all meaning the 5D Mark IV has less dynamic range than the Samsung NX1.
    I double checked...

    Yeah it does.
And that my friends is why in a nutshell I stopped being a writer for DPReview.

Source is Photorumors you can go look at it, they pointed out the the leaked GoPro5 manual which I read entirely before it disappears.

I can confirm you, manual video, RAW audio, stabilisation, Linear mode for aerial video, nice touchscreen.
No 4k60p, and stabilisation only works in 2,7k

100% Agree with you Andrew. I discovered the first footage of the NX1 through your video in Portugal if I recall correctly. Now I'm filming a documentary about handicapped kids in Ukraine with the NX1. This morning we filmed in a swimming pool using an underwater sleeve and it was great. This camera sustained rain, snow, and some falls. We already have over 2TB of footage (using hacked NX1 with 120 to 140Mbs bitrate) and almost shot everything with the 16-50S lens. This thing is so amazing. I keep looking for something better and considered many times changing but after renting a FS5 + Shogun and a BMD Urasa mini, I am keeping my NX1. It just seems the only 4K camera (not talking about Red or Arri) out there that actually resolves a resolution of 4K. Everything else (especially Sony) seems like FullHD + to me. Now it's disconnected... and it sucks.
(also we are using a Lensbaby 56mm macro velvet which is an NX mount lens. Beautiful crazy footage coming out of it ! Very interesting alternative to the 60mm macro Samsung)

    Such an underrated camera...
Ergonomics of a Canon or Nikon without the 1970's mirror SHIT
Smallest 4K file sizes on the planet but the highest quality compression..... THANK YOU H.265 YOU ARE THE FUTURE IT IS JUST NOBODY ELSE KNOWS IT!!!!
Ultra clean and noiseless ISO 800, acceptable 1600, falls off a cliff after that but who cares? So does a RED Epic!
Great battery life, great EVF... heck it has an EVF... Unlike my 1D C!! Guess which was cheapest!
Articulated screen but still feels like it is built like a tank and I had mine out in the pouring rain.... didn't pose an issue. Weather sealed yet articulated screen.... Canon take note.
Just look at the images... lovely! Great colour and detail
The S lenses... some of the best Super 35mm this side of PL cinema $30k stuff.
It is a goth of a camera
    It is discontinued
Nobody cares about it but the ones in the know...
The GX85 has fantastic colour... Just the right balance between natural 'scientifically correct colour' and memory colour.

What really baffled me here with the 5DMKIV, 1DX MKII and MJPEG, is that the XC10 (Like it or hate it) is a 2000 USD Camera with an inferior Image processor (Digic 5) but comes with a more "modern" codec : XF-AVC 4.2.2 Codec 8Bit internal and 10 external and Canon Log.
If they could have done that on a Digic5 IP, why can't they do that on a new Digic6+ IP??!?!?

I am just a guy with an independent voice in the world of camera reviews without hundreds of cozy ties to people from the manufacturers, without ads splattered all over the screen, without sponsors on my every video, yet still I find EOSHD mired in a world of cut throat rivalry. Only very occasionally like in the beginning with DPReview have I been given a leg up in this industry and even then it only takes one person like Barney to massacre that relationship too. The other blogs like NoFilmSchool, Cinema5D and NewsShooter spend 10's maybe even 100's of thousands of dollars trying to punt my homebrew EOSHD site into oblivion and I just find the whole thing utterly distasteful. Rather than offering a new talent an opportunity they instead I am treated like just another commercial rival to be beaten.
In the end it is up to you guys to choose. The managed platform of platitudes and advertorial, or the honest opinions and educational books of an artist/filmmaker.
    May the best guy win.

Yes,60p can produce nice image only below ISO 400, 120p only below ISO 200 and 4k below ISO 1600.
I saw unedited clip from A6300 with ISO 3200 and it was quite noisy but noise grain was finer and detailed (filmic?) and not blockier as it is on NX1. But in general according dpreview - NX1 is little less noiser than is A6300 in photo mode...
I have tried also hack v5.3 with killall and still had dropped frames with bitrate 100Mbps. Finally my solution is switch to 100 frames (1/4 slowmo 25fps) and then I can use very high bitrate (180Mbps!) without any dropped frames. I shoot in 4K30p so it would be problematic to have 25p clip in the project - to make 120 frames (1/4 slowmo 30fps) I simply make clip faster (20%) or use Twixtor for conversion from 25fps to 30fps.
It is worth to do it as 180Mbps 100p image is very nice and without any compression artefacts.

It is not done because of hack - you just have to change video out in menu from NTSC to PAL. Than you will have 100 fps instead of 120 fps.100fps can easily manage 180Mbps - it did not see any issue so far. I will se later if it is completely OK.
Yes, it is not so slow as 120fps but becuase of compression I will probably prefer it ... yes - there is still aliasing but no compression artefacts.
