Julian got a reaction from Blake.H in Post scenes from anamorphic movies that you like
@Blake.H Hey, I wanted to post that!
I love movies with strong anamorphic bokeh. So Killing them Softly blew me away.
It was shot at T2 T2.5, even during the day! Check out this article if you liked it: http://www.theasc.com/ac_magazine/October2012/KillingThemSoftly/page1.php

The anamorphic cinematography in Killing Them Softly is just exquisite!

I got another hint for you, Custom profile :-)

Julian reacted to Jimmy in Is Red about to release an affordable camera?
Nothing about that looks cheap/budget.
Can't see a shooting package coming in any less than $10k (probably about the same as Ursa Mini, when totalled up).
RED usually start the hype machine when they know something is about to drop from a competitor. Either they over estimated what the FS5 would be, or something is brewing elsewhere (or maybe they know the 4.6K mini/C300 mk II footage is gonna blow everyone away).

Julian reacted to Aragonnarun in Resolve anamorphic desqueeze, how?
Easy. Go to your media page, and select your clips, right click and choose attributes, then under video tab, select pixel rate to anamorphic or cinemascope. See the screenshot below.

Julian reacted to Hans Punk in Resolve anamorphic desqueeze, how?
Well, I'm still learning Resolve too but I've found the following works...
Go to Color tab when selecting a clip, select Sizing tool > adjust height/width to custom size. Select 'Create' to save that as a Sizing preset that can be saved and applied to all - or selected clips on import.
Or use the Sizing presets that come in Resolve for Cinemascope/Anamorphic > under 'clip attributes' when right-clicking a clip in the 'Media' window.
Example screenshot is of footage shot in ML Raw at 50p, so here I have increased the height by 1.65% to get back to 16:9 aspect.
Exactly the same re-sizing method can be used to correct Anamorphic footage by reducing height by whatever ratio is needed for the scope in question.

In other news at the complete opposite end of the price spectrum:
http://www.vantagefilm.com/en/news/minihawks-proof-of-performance-10456
New MiniHawks from Vantage Film. Compact. High Speed. Zero breathing. Super Close Focus. The set includes a 180mm prime at a jaw-dropping T1.5. The video they made contains some of the richest, most stunning anamorphic imagery I've ever seen. They'll probably cost six figures. Per lens.

Julian reacted to Don Kotlos in Sony A7S II is out!
Improving the rolling shutter from 32 to 8 msec is quite an achievement and if true I find hard to believe they forgot to advertise.
Now the interviewer might be wrong, expressing his own beliefs or the translation bad, but here is another part from that article:
"For the recording time is limited only by a possible overheating or the European 29 minutes limit"

Julian reacted to Emanuel in Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 on A7Rii in S35 mode??
*cough cough*
PS: Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 (non-speedboosted Metabones adapter, though)

Julian reacted to tosvus in Panasonic GH4r
I thought it already did that? (I don't own one so certainly not sure about that...)
-
Julian reacted to Andrew Reid in Panasonic GH4r
Panasonic did officially put it out there and sought the publicity.
If they are to do that again, some concrete details about release date and pricing might help!

Oh come on, since you have registered your only contributions are asking things to the point where you want people do the work for you. It's ok to be mentally challenged, but I don't think that's your case.

Julian got a reaction from Zach Goodwin in First footage from Leica S (Typ 007) Medium Format
I've heard the rolling shutter is terrible in 4K mode.
The sensor has a crop factor of 0,8x compared to fullframe. The fastest Leica S lenses are f/2.5. In terms of DOF, any fullframe camera can give you the same DOF with f/2 lenses...
I really can't see what's special about that sample clip uploaded in 720p. Could've been shot with a Canon 550D, some good lenses and the help of a good colourist.

Just wait for the Pentax 645Z to drop in price and will be $4k soon enough.

Julian reacted to BrorSvensson in Panasonic GH4r
They haven't sent out the firmware to the testers, they sent them a camera with v-log.
-
Julian got a reaction from IronFilm in Panasonic GH4r
Panasonic is being really silly about this. Sending out the firmware beta to testers / shops. Not telling anything about the fact that they will probably charge you for it.
GH4R doesn't have to mean a new camera. There already is the GH4K, GH4AEG-K, and other crazy letter combinations (you can really buy a Panasonic DMC-GH4UE-K + AG-YAGHG for example...) The add-ons just tell which lenses is bundled with the camera. So GH4R could mean GH4+firmware and an identical camera.
If Panasonic does not release the V-Log update for the current GH4, that would be completely stupid, since we've already seen it working with the beta testers.

Julian reacted to Lift-Up in Improve your pocket 4k videos!
Hello!
We cant carry our NX1s, GH4s and A7s with us all the time. For those who want a good 4k camera that you can carry all the time, thats the best solution that I have found.
The best Android phones shoot 4k with a bitrate of aprox 48Mbps. They are not bad, but they have too much compression artifacts, contrast, saturation etc.
A few days ago I found an amazing app, and I would like to share it with everyone. I have no bonds with the app developer, but im afraid he will give up his project if there is not enough support. Im pretty sure he can make things even better.
What we have now with the app is:
- Flat picture profile (It recovers a good amount of highlights and a little bit of shadows)
- Better noise reduction (more like film grain. The stock one is very blocky)
- 24 fps - 30 fps
- 200Mbps!!! Thats the best part! Much better video quality. Less macro blocking, less banding etc, so you can recover more detail, grade the videos with the less problems etc.
Frame grab from the Samsung Galaxy S6 stock camera - 4k at 50Mbps
Frame grab from the Samsung Galaxy S6 using the app at 200 Mbps
There is a lot of room for improvements, like more manual control, more control over the picture profile etc. But I do think that, at the moment, thats the best 4k camera that you can carry around all the time!
Lets support the guy, so he can make it even better!
The name of the app is CINEMA 4K, and its available for free at the play store! Make sure to update your phone to 5.1.1!!!
