The focus ring is certainly usable on the 50mm f/1.8 for manual focusing, but it doesn't feel as good as the AI-S. Difficult to be precise if you want to rack focus or such.
You could also buy a used 50mm f/1.8D. The used prices on those lenses have been roughly the same for 7-8 years - so if you're not happy with it, just sell it for the same money and get the 50mm AI-S f/1.8 instead. Just don't pay the extra price premium for the f/1.4D, the extra bucks aren't worth it.
Also, keep an eye out for the AI-S 50mm lenses, sometimes there's really nice ones to be found for nearly nothing. I found mine for about 50 euro - in mint condition.

    I have shot quite a bit with the 50mm AF-D f/1.4, 50mm AF-D f/1.8 and 50mm AI-S f/1.8.
Optically, the two f/1.8s are very similar in sharpness, but the AF-D has different flaring/ghosting characteristics (both look good, just behave a bit differently). The AI-S focus ring is certainly better for video. Only go for the AF-D if you're going to shoot stills and want the AF and metering as well.
The 50mm f/1.4 AF-D is a decent lens, but it's very soft at f/1.4. A bit better at f/1.6, really nice at f/1.8. If this lens would break I wouldn't bother buying it again. I'd rather go for the AI-S 50mm f/1.8 or the AF-D f/1.8 - or for stills either of the new 50mm G lenses. Also, with certain directions of lights (shining nearly directly into the lens) it has a nasty type of ghosting wide open. It's rare, but it is nasty when it happens. The 50mm f/1.8 AF-D is much better in that aspect.
Mechanically, I far prefer the 50mm AI-S over the E-series lenses I've tried. I think they're identical optically.

    Last two are at f/2.
Maybe.  But 16:9 for video should be a little bit better.
Two more f/2 here, shown different focus point.

So, I had my first go with the GX85... awesome little camera... well worth what I paid for it.
I have to adjust Saturation a little. On my monitor, the levels look fine, but when I watch it on one of my TVs, it is definitely over-saturated. I am going to try lowering my in camera saturation a tick or two. For this video, the in camera settings were... Contrast -5, Sharpness -5, Noise Reduction -5, Saturation -2. I'm going to try -3 and -5 next. I used FilmConvert for correction/grading. And the music is by Kevin McLeod.

Enjoying this cam a lot now after getting used to it over the last couple of days. Bought the 15/1.7 & SLR Magic 52mm Vari ND. Nice combo. Amazing little lens.

    Super annoying!
But it seams that I found a fix:
You just need to open Terminal and paste the following line: defaults -currentHost write com.apple.ImageCapture disableHotPlug -bool YES

To reverse it back to normal just paste: defaults -currentHost write com.apple.ImageCapture disableHotPlug -bool NO

Shot this on the red one mx -

The Red One MX - dynamic range is not there, but it has a look, some kind of unique look - not like film, not like the alexa, but it's own look - older but its there - something nice, kind of like the what's that camera from China - the Kinefiniti

shot with red zoom lensses - 18-50 + 50=150 plus ultra contrast 1 - man that flares nicely.
ultra con gives such amazing flares - where have you been my whole life.
So screw new cameras, get an old used camera and mess around with it.
    shot at 640 ISO, 4.5k , and that's it
11 stops dynamic range, 10 stops?  who knows, who cares.
it works - it doesn't overheat.  it doesn't shoot slo motion unless you crop it but the motion cadence feels right, not like a videogame like the dragon or weapon or slimer new camera they have.
find its weaknesses, find its strengths and shoot some stuff.
don't be afraid to go into the past and be made fun of, and who cares, just work with your camera as best as you can, and make mistakes constantly and try to get better.
lord knows how i screwed this one up, i should have done more wideshots and had more variety of poses of people

If you have Mac, I'd recommend Keynote. Then you can run it both as a presentation - as well as export to PDF for digital delivery.

As a designer, I've actually been surprised quite a few times by non-techy creatives and business people making really good looking stuff - and quickly - with Keynote. It's excellent for presentations and presenting ideas.

    I have AKG K271 MKII: http://www.akg.com/pro/p/k271mkii
These are the best easily driven closed design headphones I've found. They work fine with my camera and laptop. They are a bit heavy to drive for my old Nexus 5 phone, but they still work with that combination. Hence I think they'll suit just about any DSLR / mirrorless.
Been using them for 2-3 years, and I don't have anything to complain about the audio. Frequency response seems very well balanced for monitoring.
Another plus side is that the cables are easily replaceable, and you get them delivered with one fairly long straight cable, and one coiled.
They are not super-light, but I find them comfortable. I work in front of a computer all days, and these usually sit on my head all day long.

Anything by AKG - lots of different price ranges, so you can go for the cheap £50 ones or up the price. Quality is outstanding, far better than anything mentioned here, even the cheap ones. Found them due to an end of year round up from a magazine called What Hi-Fi a few years ago & haven't looked back since.
Would also suggest you test your sound with something really bad (speakers, TV, Phone/Pad or whatever), just so you know how your sound holds up with the worst option available - not everyone watching your stuff will have a top of the range ....... (fill in the blank) & sound can change dramatically depending on what device you/your audience is using. Good sound should transfer to whatever is available & not just good stuff.....

    Impossible - in what country?
I have all my photo equipment insured (up to a value of 10k or 15k euro I think). It can get stolen, I can drop it from a roof, into the water etc - and the insurance will cover it. All I will need is to prove that it's been in my ownership with a receipt or such.

dahlfors reacted to MattH in Sony a6300 Bad Edge Aliasing
It's a well known artifact with sony cameras.  Referred to mostly as 'highlight aliasing'.  Google 'highlight aliasing' and you will find many hits.  It is a lot more egregious in HD than it is in 4k but its clearly still there. Aparently It was even apparent on the f5 and f55 but was addressed and removed on those cameras.  On other cameras like the fs700 it wasn't addressed.  However, people observed with the fs700 that it could be bypassed with Raw recording.  Go and look at videos shot with sony cameras. Now that you have seen it you will notice it everywhere!  Even in cases were you can't see it obviously it still alters the overal look of the image as a whole, making it seem over sharp and less organic.  Its a big contributor to sonys reputation as giving a video look.    The good news for you is that it is smaller in 4k and in most cases people wont notice it.

I am just a guy with an independent voice in the world of camera reviews without hundreds of cozy ties to people from the manufacturers, without ads splattered all over the screen, without sponsors on my every video, yet still I find EOSHD mired in a world of cut throat rivalry. Only very occasionally like in the beginning with DPReview have I been given a leg up in this industry and even then it only takes one person like Barney to massacre that relationship too. The other blogs like NoFilmSchool, Cinema5D and NewsShooter spend 10's maybe even 100's of thousands of dollars trying to punt my homebrew EOSHD site into oblivion and I just find the whole thing utterly distasteful. Rather than offering a new talent an opportunity they instead I am treated like just another commercial rival to be beaten.
In the end it is up to you guys to choose. The managed platform of platitudes and advertorial, or the honest opinions and educational books of an artist/filmmaker.
    May the best guy win.

Forum members, I just thought I'd point out that this guy is the founder of a questionable Polish militia "boot camp" facility which trains French civilians to semi/automatic firearms & combat warfare (which is illegal here) around a clouded political agenda that seems to cover up under anti-terrorist legitimacy. He is here asking questions as no French videographers (to whom he referred to me in another thread in french as "hipster faggots") seem to want to be associated with his borderline propaganda activities . I'm all about freedom of speech, but I just thought you guys should know who you're helping out here.. not exactly your ordinary fellow videographer..
As for the A7S2, it's color science & S-log. I often here it berated here and it isn't the easiest cam to work with and S-log does require advanced grading skills .. but in the right hands I've seen some really superb work done on the S2 and it sure packs a lot of punch in such a small package (and price compared to the FS5).. and this is coming from a Canon guy!
