We just had an interview graded with the director of a big franchise release that was shot on an A7RII in SLog. Producer says he was surprised because this shooter was supposed to bring an FS7. The interviewee was wearing a black shirt that was reflecting some purple/pink gelled light (the movie has a vibrant color palette) but the shadows were a disaster because of this. Noise, no tonality, just crunchy garbage. There was also a skin tone issue with a lack of tonality between yellows and pinks. Colorist did what he could to clean it up. Keep an eye open for an HBO First Look debuting in a week to see what i mean.

    1. Bit rate
    2. Color sampling
    x. Bit depth

100 mbps can be short where 400mbps or 200mbps for a non-intra codec AFAIK like that one used on X-H1 can overcome further issues.

In short creative fall update messed something up with driver and on a system level, so I had 3 2560x1440 screens that didn't go anywhere but at least teamviewer saw them.
I uninstalled the KB and reinstalled Nvidia driver and it kinda worked. There is still an internal 2560x1440 monitor left that noone knows where it is and what it is connected too, some other stuff still left from creative fall update but it works again.
I had great trouble installing it from the beginning too where it did the same thing. So windows update pushed out a driver for the Nvidia card that don't work and bricked it before I could do anything. So one reinstall later (are we having fun yet) and I unplugged network cable before windows could do anything, and installed driver manually first thing. Then it worked.
Searching for this problem shows threads two years old and windows still bricks installations this way (yes we having fun).

Yeah I have to admit I have had a Blue Screen of Death a few times myself in 10. I think I have had some in Every Windows version I have ever had. No clue why. Virus I would suspect a lot of times. Bugs probably the rest of the time.
Yeah is that close to the ugliest dog you ever seen. It is so ugly it is almost cute LoL. And you know I suspected it was an African name.
That might be an Akita. I have had a few of them They are scary big and when you play with them they can get a little TOO Rowdy at times LoL. Super powerful dogs.
Yeah I have found most of the time it is a video driver problem or the card it's self going bad.

Windows 10 hands down. And I say this removing all my bias and past work with Microsoft. It is by far the lightest and most performant version of Windows and this was/is the exact charter of 10.
No OS is perfect. Doesn't exist. Never will. Windows 10 is a solid performer. ?

Quite shocking seeing the difference between the URSA Mini 4.6K and 4K, identical cameras! Except for the sensor......

But really, no surprise to us who have been following BMD over the years.

Basically the Panasonic G85 is as good (or even a little tiny bit better) as the URSA Mini 4K for DR

I dunno cantsin. I can't get past the codec limitations. For me, all this process doesn't really add anything. If you look at the hand there are terrible compression artifacts in both images, without any differences in color.
Here is a comparison of few places with boosted saturation (top orig, bottom neat):

I see mostly different compression. Here is the difference between the two frames:

Personally I must be crazy because I do a lot of timelapse and hyperlapse. So basically I have a foot on both world, photo and video. It takes a lot of planning and patience to capture the right sequence but timelapse permits to produce unique look thanks to the long exposure whereas you are usually limited at 48 or 50 shutter on normal video.
Ironically, I never had the patience to capture single images and spend time in Photoshop, but I can spend hundreds of hours on AE and PR for a video. I find stills a little bit too "limiting" because I like to show motion and things happening. Eventually, I mix timelapse, drone and regular "ground" video. That's my personal approach.

I think video is a slow art, cumbersome and complicated. There's a definite attraction to the simplicity and enjoyment of stills shooting, and great shots come quicker, sometimes one after the other. With video, they pass you by... sometimes, even whilst you're adjusting the tripod. I started getting lazy for casual video - handheld, instead of a tripod, autofocus instead of manual focus, slow-mo instead of 24p, music instead of ambience, and so on...
I want to go back to the slow way.
Photography does have just as much power, and lends itself to pointing and shooting. Whereas video, when it is point & shoot, often lacks the same magic.
Video is best when it's a slow burn of circumstances directly under your control... Less run and gun... More stopping and waiting.

I mean, he said that he had taken notice of 'a certain hack circulating the interw3bs' sorta say. He just replicated said circulating hack to check its validity and shared his results with his audience. I certainly didn't get the impression he came up with the hack and proofing methods himself. Surely you can blame him for not properly giving credit or naming sources in particular, then again, with hacks like these, it's not too easy to point out the originating source for the hack, that usually requires some digging through numerous videos and posts... so instead you just say that the info was 'out there' and that you heard about it, rather than pointing to a specific source. Although, the thing with the lav mic is pretty much 1:1. Anyways, more YouTube drama over... what exactly? Surely we've got better stuff to do...

HLG uses more of the tonal range of the H264 container and also has more accurate tonal density than VlogL. Unless using slowmo (cine-D) I use HLG.

Or Tentacle Syncs, seeing as they're so dirt cheap now (or even cheaper secondhand the older model):

Which recorder do you use? (with what mics?)

Ah true, I forgot for a moment my BMPCC needs the "cheaper" Extreme Pro cards (back in the day they were the most expensive version!!).

Well, a secondhand Atomos Shogun is very cheap now, get that and load it up with cheap and huge SSD drives :-D

use the 12-60 alot - i have the 12-35 too.

The 12-60 is a great event lens where you don't have time to change lenses. The 12-35 is great in the studio or in controlled shooting environments. The voigtlander 25 gives you proper depth of field focus fall off if you need it

The reach is great - with etc in 1080p you can get to 240 ff equiv at the snap of a button. SUPER HANDY (dont use etc at high iso thoug or you will be reaching for neat noise reduction)

None of these lenses should be used for anything other than a snap zoom. Weird things happen mid zoom Reframe and then hit record - if you need a zoom lens then look at something with a servo on it.

It gives a substantial reach advantage, I'd go for that if I was doing run&gun event/doco work.

That's why the Sony shots look too dark in Phil's test. But we'll forgive him. He has the flu!
What strikes me from that one is the colour on the GH5S is way better than Sony's default settings. The typical zombie yellow is there on the A7S II especially. That's what EOSHD Pro Color is for, as it fixes it.
