  1. Very interesting release : ) Maybe this will be my 4th mobile unit purchased this year? LOL :- )
  2. Interesting reflection about what expects us in the coming years, not exactly because of the shallow DOF option but its easier access/manoeuvre and the gates to be opened then : ) Well, I'd say they surely receive this year's most relevant high-tech award for their 2021 releases. In my case, I will buy two products of Apple for the first time ever, so go figure which and why ;- )
  3. No, if you'll buy it locally for people also based in the States : ) Because in Europe the prices are outrageously higher, so you're pretty accurate : )) Without mention VAT where the State and politicians live from our own expenses 1/5 to 1/4 of our year, let alone the other taxes to eat from a third to three quarters of our income and labor :- (
  4. Fully agreed on both paragraphs, very well elaborated! : ) Texture is something indeed and that's what makes it unique and where the difference resides :- ) Filmmaking is a combo. - EAG
  5. I follow and partially agree with you but it's hard to say the things are as much night and day as your last statement infers LOL : ) I've seen myself higher resolution copies on delivery projected at the big screen and they're nothing but fairly "cinematic", no matter how many more pixels they have, viewers don't run away from them ;- )
  6. M1 Max is 3500 bucks (about €3000) in the States... Irresistible! :- )
  7. This seems to most of part us I believe truly exciting... Well, let's test it! ;- )
  8. To my eyes seems pretty clear to me that depends on the operator... Or circumstantial use. No more no less. *Apple :- )
  9. Stuff doesn't need to be lower res to look like cinematic. And yes, higher resolution, more details, etc. help post-production. As much as something doesn't necessarily have to be "cinematic" to be appreciated, I (can only and obviously) second it : ) That said, composition can result in something much more cinematic than resolution, DOF or some other visual aspect per se.
  10. I didn't even say I liked or disliked this or that sample, to be labeled by myself as "cinematic" either. They call it. Apples calls their new gimmick in the same way and you've launched the discussion I actually think fits perfectly well here :- )
  11. It's not only shallow DOF is about. And "cinematic" is not only what images look like... In any case, I guess everyone will concur people will be happier when a smartphone outcome "looks like the images from larger, better, nicer cameras" ; ) despite it's true there's a trend to people "have forgotten what cinematic images actually look like" ! I only notice people in these boards tend to focus too much all about form, cinematography... And to end "cinematic" is far more than only that. Crucial but... Just as an provocative example: what about cinematic sound? Do we also need much substantial larger and expensive acquisition devices for? ;- )
  12. Yes, Marvel is nothing about video-like, but "something" pretending to be cine-like. That is, if we're willing to ignore many different approaches on what "cinematic" may mean ;- ) - EAG
  13. Well, Marvel goes directly to the big screen if not to get IMAX releases, indies dream with streaming, classics on YT, so I wouldn't surprise myself about. There's such a plurality of perspectives to see as matter of fact : D What is "cinematic" nowadays after all? ;- )
  14. We have to redefine the meaning of the expression "cinematic" today, subordinated to an obsession for detail or a mere set of fancy gimmicks. When the art of filmmaking is the art of hiding and revealing. There are no more DoPs, they're called now DoCP ;- ) - EAG
  15. I am curious to see the use of LUTs as for instance to increasingly pop up now to pair through novel computational tools such as the recent arrival of those called cinematic gimmicks -- here's more entirely shot with :- )
  16. This is asking for some love for everyone who loves pictures:
  17. For sure : ) Any suggestions for other similar products also on (such low) budget?

  19. Here's one contribution: https://www.sabinetek.com/ They even say they are better than their competitors: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0251/2984/4826/files/comparison_1.mp4?v=1632973487 I'd just appreciate to listen more from the usual sound makers over here :- )
  20. In that comparison review versus the a7SIII up there, iPhone 13 Pro main camera could actually shine against, though.
  21. I'd say light (= time) and variable dimension texture (= space) where DOF game enters, they are for professional use, well, anything you're able to make a living from is for that intended use ; ) And yes, nonintrusive capture devices are 'the' one camera you have in hands possible to give you that shot you're looking for and no other produces :- )
  22. Two majors AFAIK: 10-bit 4:2:2 ProRes coupled to that incredible main camera versus the leftover where a tiny sensor size definitely will never help and that ZV-E10 is such a fine example.
  23. As every tool in filmmaking, content, production values and the shooter to know how to raise the craft with the available tools still count ; ) Reason why fancy computational photography will bring more stuff like this or that (mute it!) when explored within its limits such as here or there... or yet contained in this article on their 'cinematic mode' but not to necessarily fit every single case for sure : X besides it is more prone to fail than the reverse. Side by side as 'the' new cinematic game changer camera -- herein, the official Whodunnit beyond the Kathryn Bigelow's Hollywood In Your Pocket (BTS here) or/and some other unofficial fragile attempts, when not backed by the brand nor talented craftspeople using the tools as audience standards blatantly stand. Here's why this replaces next to nothing. There's always how to tune it more accordingly in any way whatsoever. To my liking, the lack of 4K 120fps nowadays is a deal breaker -- my OnePlus 9 Pro adds it to the cinematic mode aka portrait mode or still the option to lock the exposure too! That said, main camera's low light top performance already seen from that Taipei sample, coupled to 10-bit 4:2:2 ProRes in this Toronto footage, I guess, or the Big Apple, among many others for sure, clearly put it at a higher bar even though not at the (pristine) ZV-E10 level, no doubt that both are the typical no-brainer. - EAG
  24. Love the Brits Part II: ...their music and approach to everything related to stuff they pioneer about, such as this web corner is : ) (BTW just arrived to UK residency so who knows one of these days I had to write we ? ;- )
