I have been using windows for exactly 20 years now, and the secret is I believe to get a monster hardware under it. Especially because of that I would never judge OS performance if it runs on a laptop. They have all sorts of crazy resource management solutions built into them, thermal throttling, shit bios etc. Who knows what trickery they had to employ to get that 18mm thick Razor Blade 1 degree cooler than lava..

He has posted some really nice footage. I'm impressed he's able to get such nice bokeh from 1.5x. And the bokeh in the recent 1.9x footage is ridiculously beautiful imo. Who knows if the lenses will ever happen, especially at a price people could afford. I'm skeptical but also extremely impressed with what he's accomplished and hope he can make it happen. Exciting.
I really hope he can find a manufacturer to partner with and make it happen. Here's the 1.9x footage I was talking about.

Good idea! gonna do too. I do believe if manufacturer will receive a few emails on regular basis they might start thinking about possibility.
that was my first question to the moondog labs when i got their iPhone 1.33X adapter from kickstarter, if there s35 version anywhere on the roadmap, didn't get the answer

Sadly I don't know much more than you do, but I think he's working on a prime set initially. I would love to see an adapter actually but primes make sense too. Find him on vimeo, he posted a test a month ago.

Thanks for mentioning Forrest Schultz. I wasn't familiar with him but just read a thread he started a couple years ago on the Blackmagic board. Very interesting. Do you know if he is designing primes or an adapter? He mentioned both. Also, any recent word on cost?

I really expected Samyang to enter the budget anamorphic market a long time ago. I even wrote them a heads up email. I am such an influental guy you see, they still haven't given up on signing me with the r&d department..
SLRMagic should work on the quality of their glass a bit more, and for the love of God, please get rid of those baby blue flares.
On a more positive note I am absolutely curious what Forrest Schultz will come up this year. He's been working on his Apollo concept a while now.

And kudos to DXO for giving us this. At least we have a good understanding of performance sensor. I verified their measurement in real world with every camera I owned.
Cross their results with the Dpreview image comparison tool for ISO and DR and it matches well.
I don't understand your frustration Andrew.

I do agree that DXO's rankings are a bit questionable, but not too far off.  There are generally valid explanations of the issues you cited:
NX500 over 5DS and NX1:  I've personally handled 5DSR files, and can say that the IQ is terrible. Even Canon stated not to expect much more than their old APS-C cameras in the IQ department.  I've read a few times that the NX500 is considered to have higher IQ than the NX1.  By how much, I don't know.  But viewing test RAWs of the NX1, I'd say DR and high ISO are around 1/2 stop behind the Nikon D7200.
DXO One:  Its Super RAW literally is super.  It takes 4 RAW files, stacks them, and averages out the noise.  The difference is dramatic.  While the detail level isn't the best at high ISO, the lack of noise is well beyond FF capability.  This is similar to Olympus' high res RAW mode, but instead of increasing resolution, it reduces noise and increases detail at the same output size.
D3X over D5:  The D5 is a bomb below ISO 1600, nearly matching the 5D III.  Even crop sensors beat it.  The sensor is tuned for mid/high ISO performance, though current technology only goes so far.  The gains, while there (+1/2 stop vs 1DX II), really aren't worth the trade off for the flexibility in low ISO RAW.  Worthy of note is that the D3X has a Sony sensor, while the D5 is Nikon's own creation.
D600 over 1DX II and P40+:  It's true.  The D600 kills the 1DX II in DR at base ISO, and at worst, ties it the rest of the way up.  the 1DX II literally has years-old crop sensor performance in that area, despite Canon's massive gain in their new generation of sensors.  High ISO is also neck and neck.

Vs the P40+, the sensor in the MF camera is quite old.  Despite having the resolution advantage, it loses out in DR and high ISO by quite a big margin.  By ISO 1600, colors turn to mush, which doesn't really happen on the D600 at any ISO.
D3s and D700:  I've also worked with files from a D700 multiple times, and can say that yes, its sensor is outdated at this point.  It's competitive with today's crop sensor cameras (minus Canon's) at best.  The A7S/II sensor has been compared to current medium format in its DR and ability to reproduce color.

Once again, the D3s/D700's sensor is Nikon's own.  Nikon isn't very competitive when it comes to sensors, and probably had its best attempt at competing with Sony in the D4/s/f.  All of the rest of their sensors just don't stand out, though aren't as bad as Canon's. I have a feeling that resolution plays a big part in DXO's rankings.  If you downscale the A7R II's files to A7S II size, they will certainly have an advantage in their "Sports" rating. It might also be why the A7R II beats the D810, when the D810 clearly has about 1/3 stop advantage at high ISO.  My friend tested 2x A7R IIs before returning them and keeping his D810.  #IQsnob.
For DR and high ISO, they test noise up to a certain amount.  How they get to that amount, who knows, but it's a cutoff point they chose that represents the transition from "OK" noise to offensive noise.  So while sensors may have DR response up to a certain amount of stops, after a point, it becomes wiser to turn things back a bit in software.  Where that happens is up to the user, as it's a more subjective choice.
And "Color" is more about correctly reproducing color in RAW than how the final JPG is rendered.  Color in the Canon sense is highly subjective.  Color against a known testing scene/chart isn't.

Yeah, a lot of the times it takes getting away for a while and looking at it again with a set of fresh eyes and then change it up a little or even starting from scratch (like I toned back the example, because I later saw an excessive red tint in the darker mids). Don't like LUTs that much, except for quickly rotating through a bunch to see how different looks might affect the feel of the image. I'd usually then start from scratch to get close to that.

    Hello ana-scope lovers,
I'm selling my Möller Anamorphot 32/2x and Rectilux 3FF-S. This particular Möller is hard to find especially in such good condition. It took me over a year of searching (on and off) to get one in this condition, it looked like new-old stock when it arrived and had been stiff to turn as a result of sitting somewhere unused for years. I regreased it (when used in the olden days of double focusing) but not really important now as you'll have it set to infinity and using it with the Rectilux 3FF-S. The Möller is known for its sharpness and crazy blue/purple flares!
The Rectilux is also in great condition and I've regreased it also as there was some slight vibration when focusing when I first got it so now nice and smooth. The Rectigrip included, I cannot recommend as it put a small dent in the barrel of the scope when tightened and also hard to gauge if front of taking lens is making contact with back of scope. There is a minuscule mark on the coating because of this but barely noticeable. I only noticed it when taking macro shots to sell the scope so I'm including an excellent Redstan clamp that does a brilliant job of holding it in place and prevents elements from making contact.
Also included are a Coupling Ring which connects the scope to Rectilux, a custom made lens gear for the Rectilux 3FF-S from Helicopter Sean and a thicker custom 3D printed pitch gear for your follow focus because of the long focus throw in and out. A PDF of Rectilux 3FF-S also included and a clamp most likely used for scope's original purpose and could somehow be integrated into a rig set-up, it's extremely solid.
    Price: €800

You can just see the small indentation where Rectigrip made an *impression*

    Rectilux with custom lens gear:

Rectilux has 72mm filter thread. I have used a variable ND filter with no problems. You can also see the purple coating of the Möller that gives it its signature blue/purple flares:

Rectilux + Möller + Coupling Ring + Rectigrip

Custom 3D printed pitch gear. I have basically used a longer screw and placed it on top of original gear:

A recap of what I'm selling:
Möller Anamorphot 32/2x Rectilux 3FF-S Rectigrip Redstan Clamp Coupling Ring Original screw on clamp Custom Focus Gear for Rectilux Custom 3D printed pitch gear PDF Rectilux owner's manual I take PayPal and possibly we can do it through eBay but would like to avoid because of ridiculous fees! I'll be posting from France.

I shot this for a company that owns the footage so unfortunately I can't share files with you but I'll post some screen grabs from it on Monday. The camera was so slow. All the old C cameras are slow. But the image from the C500 is undeniably great. We only shot to 4K ProRes HQ as the editors at the company I worked for aren't ready for raw and the turn around needs to be quick. From the dailys I've seen the footage from the C500 with Odyssey looks better than any Epic MX footage I've shot in the past. Idk why we never rented this camera before on RED shoots. I think the RED name holds a lot of value to producers. Idk. But this forum really encouraged me to branch out and try these old slow cameras. I recommend you guys do too!

    Hi all,
Has anyone come across one of these before, I can't seem to find out anything about this lens?
    Front markings are ISCO-GÖTTINGEN ISCORAMA - ANAMORPHOT 1.5x - 49 MC.
It has the the same front and rear element diameters as a 54. However this one has a 72mm rear mounting thread, and instead of buttons, has the same alignment mechanism as the 42.
I haven't been able to test it yet, thinking of hacking together a UV filter mount. In the meantime does anyone have any more info on this lens?
Any help would be most appreciated.
    Thank you!

And you're merely cherry-picking from my post. Read my whole post. I was stressing that speed and performance has more to do with hardware, and drivers written for said hardware, than with the OS. Even if I were to compare Windows 7 64bit to Windows 10 64bit, there is essentially no difference - they are both based on the hybrid Windows NT kernel (albeit with the added ability of addressing the x86-64 instruction set). I have been building very high-performance PC's, for myself and many others, for two decades now - from my experience, I find Windows 7 64bit to be far more stable and less taxing on memory.
Further, your understanding of the "industry" is incorrect - Windows 7 is, and will remain for some time, the most popular version of Windows in the world. The "industry" you mention isn't stupid - they are not going to drop support for the world's most popular and used OS, believe me. In fact, Windows 7 was so popular, and remains popular, that Microsoft had to forcibly end OEM distribution recently because people were still asking for it over Windows 10.

Regardless, Windows 7 64bit will be supported until 2020 with updates and service packs. - whether you want to believe me or not, I don't mind, but at their core, Windows 7 and 10 are essentially the same thing - they are both based on Windows NT and employ the hybrid NT kernel - minus a few GUI changes and features (such as Cortana), which digital artists don't really need at all.

Ultimately, when it comes to NLE's, and thanks to stream processing, graphics drivers from Nvidia and AMD/ATI, and the higher-bandwidth RAM they employ, are far more important than what OS they are running on.

Wrong. USB 3.0, or any other piece of hardware, has nothing to do with the OS, but rather its own unique driver from its original manufacturer. With regards to USB 3.0, it has to do with the motherboard and the motherboard's drivers. If you install the drivers for your motherboard correctly, USB 3.0/3.1 works perfectly fine on Windows 7.
The reason many people use Windows 7, like myself, is due to its stability, simple GUI, and extensive service packs/updates.
Personally, I use Windows 7 64Bit as it can address up to, theoretically, 256TB of RAM (I have 64GB installed). In contrast, 32Bit operating systems can only address up to 4GB of RAM. Hence, a system running Windows 7 64Bit, with, say, only 8GB RAM installed, would trounce a system running Windows 10 32Bit with 4GB installed regarding memory management and overall efficiency.
Also, you are wrong again regarding video performance. Video performance has nothing to do with the OS either. It has do with how many CUDA Cores/Stream Processors your GPU has, the size, speed and bandwidth of its on-board RAM (i.e. 128bit, 192bit, 256bit, 384bit, 512bit), your GPU driver set, and whether or not your NLE supports CUDA/Stream Processing.

Windows 7 64Bit can handle any NLE. And it will for a long time. There is no need to upgrade to Windows 10, nor do I recommend it personally if your main concern is stability and memory management.
