Looks like Panasonic 14mm 2.5 and Panasonic 14-42mm PZ lens is the best fit for Moondog, 14mm 2.5 slight vignetting but usable, 14-42mm PZ usable from 18mm and up, unlike Panasonic 14-42 II which only 35mm and up is usable.  Another guy tested 20mm 1.7 but seems unusable, the 45mm 1.8 looks pretty bad at 1.8 aperture.. probably need to step down.

    I am waiting for my one to arrive, which I will try on 12mm 2.0, 15mm 1.7, 25mm 1.7, 42.5 mm 1.7, Leica 45mm 2.8, Sigma 60mm 2.8 and Olympus 14-42EZ and see how they fair.

    Anamorphic squeeze update.

    http://www.43rumors.com/panasonic-is-working-on-a-de-squeeze-for-the-anamorphic-modes-in-the-gh5-to-be-released-this-summer/

“…We put pressure to our devs to put a proper de-squeeze for the anamorphic modes in the GH5 (let’s hope for it in the summer firmware update that’ll bring 6K anamorphic)…”

No need for expensive external monitors for de squeeze option if it is true!

No I dont have it. I dont have any personal video gear. Decided to switch jobs after 7.5 years as a producer. At the new place I will also shoot a lot of video. So no need to do that as a hobby anymore. Will rent for personal docs and such.

For jlog I just ETTR. That usually fixed it. And if there still is a bit of noise is ok with me.

Working full time at company instead of freelancing?

I still have my own gear for the occasional interesting projects, but sold most of them since I just use company's gear most of the time after I started working full time.

I've been a PC guy all my life, just happened like that, like starting with Canon or Nikon. I have zero brand fetishism or preference. I'll switch to Linux or Mac as soon as I see any advantage but right now the Mac computer are just too expensive for the specs.
At home my girlfriend recently bought one of their latest laptop and Iphone and every-time she needs to do something beyond internet browsing she calls me to rescue her:

    - Want to install some "exotic" software, NOPE, it doesn't work on Mac

    - Want to watch a movie via the Laptop HDMI, of course there is no HDMI out on the Mac laptop

    - Want to plug anything in general ? NOPE, there is very little connectivity and the removal of the 3.5mm is utterly stupid IMHO. Just another excuse to sell you overpriced accessories. Plus, I hate the wireless accessories, it always runs out of battery when you need it the most.

    - Need a basic apple cable ? You must buy the dedicated Apple cable for $29 or it won't work properly.

As for Apple and ethic, they are no better or worst than all the other silicon valley hipster companies. They are here to do business. They are not cool or evil, just protecting their own interest. Fighting Trump immigration policy when it's bad for their HR strategy but they haven't said anything about the new FCC policy change regarding selling the internet history...

    THIS

I like my machine configured to my exact liking rather than dumb down approach.

I don't want some fucking authority say what I can do or what I can't do on my own computer, I want it to be able to connect to everything I chuck at it, so all my device have USB 3.0, HDMI, SD CARD reader, which sadly mac can't offer me one ( I got a 5.5" mini laptop that have more useful ports than full sized macbook.. go figure)

I used to own macbooks and ipads but at end of the day they are just tools. The Apple ecosystem doesnt suit me.

all mirror-less cameras are the same... not good for manual focus with native lenses.

    Just use your manual lenses.

The ones with clutch focus rings works well in manual focus

  8. Panasonic 42.5mm 1.7 and Olympus 45mm 1.8 both uses 37mm filter thread, should make it even more interesting if you want bokeh vs kit lens, Panasonic 14-42mm pz, Olympus 14-42 ez  and Olympus 17mm 2.8 pancake lens is also 37mm filter thread. I hope Pana 20mm 1.7 and 14mm 2.5 and leica 15mm 1.7 works because they work on Slrmagic Anamorphot 1.33 without vignetting

Wow that has Not been my experience on 3 different A7.. cameras, and even on my VG 20, and VG 30. I think Sony has done a great job developing it. I know that a reasonable amount of people use it even on the FS5. We are talking FF sensors with the A7's they have a lot of pixels to deal with compared to say a m4/3. Heck 100% view in Photoshop, with my A7r, looks damn near as clean as the normal 17% you view.

Heck if you can use it taking Photos, Video well hell that is hardly any strain on it with 1080p.You only need 2mp. Even 4k is only 8.3. Yeah maybe on the A7s 4k might be a bit of a stretch, but 24, 36, 42mp versions, piece of cake.

FS5 have both center scan and clearzoom mode.  ETC on Panasonic works the same as center scan mode, just the center crop of the sensor, unlike clearzoom which have software interpolation when you zoom in, so for me center scan/ETC > clearzoom all the time, especially with moving target.

I got FS5 myself and I always use center scan for extra zoom reach. On a7s I use APS-C mode instead.

here is the video done by other FS5 user on this subject

To satisfy my curiosity (it has been a while since I used the variable zoom with my A7s in video), I just mounted an old crappy Canon 28-90 zoom on my A7s, mounted on a tripod and set it to 47mm then used Clearzoom (virtually lossless variable digital zoom to 2x) and zoomed in to 2x then back out, then I used the optical zoom to zoom to 90mm.

The Clearzoom actually looks better as the optical zoom is not parfocal  so is a bit out of focus at the end of the 90mm.    The optical zoom is also quite shaky (even on the tripod) while the digital zoom is smooth.

I am not going to post it as it is pretty lame and not a great lens but anyone with a Sony E mount camera with clearzoom and a zoom lens that covers 2x at least can test it.

For stills I would always prefer an optical zoom but for video in SOME circumstances, I would go with the digital zoom.

I used clearzoom few times and most of the time it sucks balls, result is too soft/pixelated when mix the footage with another one with proper zoom on another angle in multiple cam setup during event/theater setup, ETC mode while gives you really good result without degrading sharpness except the increase in noise at lower light environment, though both wont offer you the same bokeh as proper zoom.

    Test Panasonic LUMIX GH5 180fps
    Profile 709L , ISO 800 , cloudy (low light)
    Sigma 18-35, handheld

Nice color and look really stable! cant get that smoothness with A7SII on Sigma 20mm 1.4 handheld.. still too choppy

  12. Looks like there is new version of 5d iv with improved heatsink coming, guess older 5d IV won't be able to handle new improved firmware well due to heat issue?

Anyway 5d doesn't have ibis which means for some still deal breaker, I hardly use my monopod with ibis machines which gives me much more freedom.

Goodnews to some my friends who got iv mainly for still, maybe they can branch out video for real lol

Well it seems like Variable NDs aren't a thing in Japan. I've just been to a big camera store and they didn't even know what they were! After I explained it to them, they understood but said it would have to be special ordered from the manufacturer and could take quite some time...

I guess I'll have to order off ebay then.

Have you compared the Zomei to more expensive ones? It is only about $25, seems like it would be too cheap.

The MC one is like $40~60, always go for coated filter! I think the $25 you saw is non-MC version. I got the genus eclipse before which I gladly get rid of it after I got the Zomei one, I got some footage ruined by reflection on Genus with their non-coating VND.
