  1. It still have 4K60p (non on Sony except FS7), 1080P180 unlimited slowmo that no other camera beside GH5 have, but yeah for video people like us it doesn't have as good value as GH5

But for photog who does occasional video job it does make more sense for them.

    Thanks.

Thanks. Are you using a budget-friendly shotgun mic? or a more expensive one?

At work we use NTG2 which is not expensive if bought 2nd hand ($150?), we connect to Zoom H6 or to the XLR port on the C100MKII or on the GH5's XLR Adapter.  I think Sony also have their XLR adapter for the Sony alpha camera?

    Thanks for pointing that out!!!

Have you used the video micro yourself? Any thoughts on it?

Yeah I had VideoMicro for more than 1 year and it done the job pretty well, the sound quality and size is nice for the budget!  but for interviews i only use wireless lapel or proper shotgun mic on boom stand, the audio quality difference is very big ! Unless you are up and close with the interviewee which means the mic is not too far off from the speaker

I hate it when amazon does that!!!

Yeah most of the bad one are the VideoMic ME and VideoMic Go, I was confuse when they said power button broke or somethig but videomicro doesnt have had buttons! Then I just realised it was for other Video Mic

Thanks. The phrase "practically usable" leaves me a bit concerned though :)

Anybody know if there is a cheaper extension cable than the $30 SC8 cable?

Thanks for the clarification. I am assuming that it is not meant for use on a phone then???

Oops It seems a bunch of other Rode Mic was put on the same review, the one on BH is just for Video micro.

  6. When you have mortgage to pay and family to feed #2 always

But if you are trustfund babies who dont have to worry about living or just do video for "fun/hobby" then #1 lol

Errr.... but why buy a Canon at all?!?!

You can look at Expired Listings on TradeMe to get a rough general feel for market values.

I never looked at Canon before so don't really know their value.

Where do you live in NZ?

    Auckland

What gear do you currently have, and what do you use it for?

Panasonic GH5, use it for video of course (also got job doing full time video production, they use canon cinema cameras)

Yeah FS5 and A7S color is not that great( I had them both), A6300 and A7RII I used to have definitely have improved colour scene.

Not a bad thing however.... you can buy from eBay and sell on TradeMe for more than what you paid for it?!

I actually done that, buy cheap stuff in Oz and sell on NZ lol, but I haven’t try canon camera as I m not too familiar with their market value

but I do notice the downwarding trend of camera listing over the past years, they definitely not as hot they are used to be, so I am also downsizing my gear collection as I fear they will depreciate even more.

What it does show is just how small the market for these cameras is.

Around 10 A7s cameras sold in Australia in a few months and probably around 50 to 60 Canon 5D iii's.

That might explain some lower and higher prices for the A7s      If you NEED one, then you pay what you have to at the time and if you WANT one, you wait.    If selling out of need you take the going rate.

The 5Diii is fairly available used and there was probably a few more than normal over the last few months with people buying the 5d iv.

NZ being a smaller market still would explain the price of the A7s too.      Even two cameras on Ebay might constitute a "glut" unless there was a sudden need.

I suspect if you did buy four 5diii's and put the on Ebay NZ at once, you might take a hit too but maybe selling spaced??

There is no ebay NZ, they tried to get in few years ago but our local auction site is firmly rooted to kiwi mind lol

  10. Man need to get some 5DIII from Oz and sell it here, few hundred dollar profit!

Too bad in NZ you can't post stuff with battery to overseas unless using the most expensive courier option.

Is RX1R II for US$2200 and Leica SL for US$3500 a good price? Both of them are at our local auction site right now

  11. SAR is a fucking joke, it more like Sony Press Release (SPR) instead of rumors as Sony pretty much killed the rumor bit after the hacking scandal.

The Sony camera in here doesn't hold value, A7S with movecam cage sold for $700, two A7RII sold for $1600ish this week and few weeks before, while 5D3 can sell for more. Same for Canon 6D which can sell for high $$ than A7II, not many a7sii for sale so I guess people still hold on to it.. until A7SIII or A9S released lol.

    Very interesting results...

I didn't have vignetting issues on the regular 0.71 speedbooster with this lens. I did have IBIS issues though using the nikon mount, unless I set it manually to different parts of the zoom. This seems to confirm that IBIS communicates properly with the camera through the canon adapter. Tempting.

Because Nikon one is dumb adapter ie no electronic contacts unlike Canon version

    Oh come on.

If you're really doing medium to high budget video projects, you are most certainly not rocking up on set with a mirrorless camera. Nor is it so easy to justify a switch between the two. The GH5 footage has the potential to be cleaner, sharper, punchier - for sure. But the difference between the two cameras is not night and day, and I'm sure a lot of clients won't be able to spot the difference. This doesn't even take into account glass, or lighting or crew size which have a much larger effect.

Really, you're just perpetuating this camera myth where people like to think a new camera with flashier specs will elevate their projects, and in turn make them feel like they're a better filmmaker by owning the latest piece of gear.

lol damn my intention has been blown, though same can be say to smartphones, some people spend $1000 per year on new phone for the latest and greatest and some only spend after their current one died.

if a7s 3 comes a year from now than it's really hard to resist the gh5 with the new upcoming firmware. And in terms of business, if people are choosing to make the switch rather than wait for the sony to catch up, it hard to justify the switch again after just one year when you already invested in lenses. Just saying.

Not really, some of us with full Sony gear and lens dumped to get GH5, though some just use the same lens on GH5 using adapter, if you do medium to high budget video instead of ultra low budget each time it is really not that hard to be honest

It's business and for PROFIT for some us and not just a hobby.
