  1. Does it have black screen when recording internally and connect to hdmi out? On the V1 I definitely saw black screen when connected to the screen which is a shame, but this R50V seems to have latest codec from R5II and not based in previous one.

This is the only thing that kept me from switching the E10II out at this stage til more info coming out (ie the bloody user manual!

R50V can connect to usb-c as UVC webcam up to 4k60p which is nice, and can also be powered by the same usb connection, that solved the power issue for current cameras acted as webcam.

Is it a full frame camera though as all the chatter seems to be about a crop sensor?

Its all APSC from Canon for Q1 this year, next Canon FF is R6III which will be announced in Q2, R3 sensor with 6K raw and 4k120p in S35.

  3. Still missing the 22mm Pancake in RF mount, dunno what took them long?! They have other EF-M lens slowly adapted to RF now but the pancake is still missing in action.

But I dont mind the new EVF less release, loved my M6II when I have it, the small body with 32MP sensor is quite fun when paired with 22mm pancake.

If it have ZV-E10 II spec for video I might sell that one to replace with Canon ver.. or maybe getting the V1 as I also missed G1XIII when I had it, fun pocket cam that is full weather proofed.

Since the s5 the main issue has been the long wait for new stuff, AF behind the curve, poor lens adapter performance, and an unimaginative product line-up that neither feels or looks either high-end or creative. (Unlike, say an X-Pro3 / Sigma Fp / Z8)

Lumix S1 with the latest update seems have finally improved adapter lens performance (yes still get updated in year 2025, 6 years after release...!)

They might be late but better than never.

  5. For me 3 camera is deal setup, 2 workhorse and 1 for casual

1 main cam for handheld/gimbal and 1 tripod with big zoom for convenience during events (or prime if just interview type), I know people like to talk down on those 10x travel zoom but they are so handy for event work, and with FF or APSC as base they handle lowlight more better than camcorder even though the aperture is not that high.

By the time the C300mk2 was released the FS7 already had a substantial lead, but perhaps Canon's huge market presence with the C300mk1/C100 means it could have caught up? But the C300mk2 was priced quite a bit higher than the FS7, and it just wasn't beating the FS7 in specs by enough to justify its price (heck, in some ways the FS7 was better than the C300mk2. Such as Sony still remained the best option for slow motion). The C300mk2 simply couldn't overcome both the  early lead the FS7 had built up and it's handicap of being double the price! wtf

Having no 4K60P really killed C300MK2, its pretty much DOA

Same for C200 with no 10bit and TC, dumb move

C100 MK II have no 4K, that is really start of the fall

It was around that time I got the FS5/A7S/A7RII, a really nice set for slow mo/4K/AF and keep size reasonable small... while if you go Canon most of them only have 1080P except 1DC

This is why there is interest in open gate (which thankfully this is an area where Panasonic is leading the charge on), not because of a huge increase in anamorphic shooting (although this is partially a factor, it's become massively more affordable!) but because they want to be able to to create multiple aspect ratios for delivery at once.

And the best ratio for that is 4:3.. aka M43, if Pana or Oly were smart about it they really could really make a ultimate content creator camera, but looks like Canon got the better idea than them argh.

Is it impressive for it to have a 4K/6K readout speed equal to the 5-year old Canon R5's readout speed...  in 8K?  It's a very usable number, and that's great.  Anyway, aren't those modes line skipped or similar?

S1RII 4k60p is supersampled, only 4k120p is lineskipped, so for it to have same rolling shutter as lineskipped R5/R5ii 4k60p that is quite impressive. And DR on R5 is really nothing to write about.

I can have more DR in nature profile than R5 with clog3, that one thing I really noticed when I change from S1 to R5 years ago.

Panasonic is really pushing for the DR rather than speed like the competition which used stacked sensor at expense of DR hit.

I hope the next one will be more on speed though, as after using R5 for 4 years I kinda get used to the crappy DR
