  1. Follow this thread as I am looking to ugprade from i7-4770K to Threadripper, Intel is like Canon, you have to pay to get the feature you want so I don't think they need to react to AMD which have less than 20% market share.

Sorry, the DR of the A7s ii is greater than that of the GH5. The A7s ii 120p crop gives you the same fov as the GH5, so that can't make it inferior to it! And the crop means no aliasing aftifacts. Vlog colors are awful. Sony colors have a lot of variants, but perhaps you couldn't figure out the menus to find the set you would like :).

crop in 2X is very bad, especially if you are switching to slowmo on the go as it totally changing the composition. Sony color is really hard to get right, that coming off as formal FS5, A7RII, A7S and A6300 owner, nowadays I use C100MKII for corporate and GH5 for everything else.

DR on Sony camera is very good, so as lowlight, but i dont really miss it (don't shoot at night nowadays), not one client asked is the video getting less DR lol, as long the composition and colour looks right that all they care.

It's getting a ton of coverage this week. That alone is enough traffic to drive sales. I don't think there's anything wrong with it, but if we are to believe what they said on RED's forum - that they can't keep up with manufacturing, I just wonder why they'd expand and create longer backorder times. Unless Apple is helping with manufacturing.

Maybe get Foxconn, they got million factory workers to help lol

  4. Dual IS2 is not great for panning, I think your best bet is to write to Panasonic about this, I already write to them that dual IS2 and panning is bad for video.  That why I got Olympus lens, dont really get those Dual IS2 problems especially panning, and ability to switch to full manual focus instead of fly by wire!

Sometimes I feel there is photo vs video division fighting each other inside the group. POIS is good for photo but not great for video compare to MOIS, same for Dual IS, great for photos but can be problematic for video.

Finally heard back from the factory and they believe that the internal mic level is ok and recommend you use the Mic limiter to minimise the clipping.

I have used the GH5 now with and without additional mics. I have not had to use the pad on external mics. The on board limiter is both aggressive in suppressing clipping and invisible in operation so I'm happy with that. Again, this is db measured accurate settings on this recorder. It is doing exactly what it is meant to be doing, and doing it well. Set to -12 and use the limiter. This is on-board mics only, with a reasonably loud environment:

Good to see my old school hall !

  6. A7SIII probably coming next year, A7II released Nov 14, A7RII Aug 15 and A7SII Sep 15, if A7III is similar to A7II release (both Q4 release) then you can expect A7RIII coming out in summer and A7SIII in autumn next year, definitely more than a year to go

Looks like Sony is putting A7 into 3 year cycle.. same for A5xxx series lol, the entry lvl model need a long overdue! Or maybe they are exiting the entry level market and go for enthusiast and up?

Also I will add, after using Canon and Panasonic native lenses, you will be let down by the build quality of the Panasonic zooms. The 12-35mm version i is a relatively small lens and it produces a fine image, but is built like a cheap plastic piece of crap and a very expensive one at that; it's nowhere near the same build as your Canon 24-70mm.

If you're looking for AF just to grab an initial focus, the 20mm 1.7 will work and is probably a fun little lens on the GH5.

If you're looking for them for any type of manual focus... just use your Veydra. You probably have one of the cheapest cinema camera set ups there are. Just use your 1DX2 for AF, you'll be happier on those days you need it.

I once drop the 12-35mm and gh4 from a monopod and both work fine (monopod at 1.3m high), only the lens hood broke.  Panasonic stuff are pretty well constructed compare to Olympus in terms of internal robustness.

M43 lens is good for ninja shoots and on gimbal, good luck try use that 70-200mm f2.8 to look casual, I only used prime lens on gimbal to save my arm. Even 12-40mm is too heavy for me on gimbal for all day shoots, I only used m43 prime on it.

  8. Use patreon, I know some are sustainable but some still got a few miles ahead by using patreon. Subscription (or monthly contribution) is the way to go.  There is different mindset of paying to support and get content vs paying to buy content, which I doubt many want to spend to buy just the content, I know I wouldn't.  (look at honest trailer, their $1 subscription end in epic failure, if they do it on patreon that will be a complete different story)

  9. In our area we still have few cameras stores but yeah most mall camera shops is closed or converted to photo print shops. Though we have 1 brand of camera shop that expanding since that one is targeted mainly toward video people like us.

Thought I'd throw this one into the mix:

Again, if anyone spots nice pricing: sharing is caring.

Thanks for the video! Good to know I can wear sunglasses for the shoot on the GH5, video AF on E-M1 II is better than GH5, on the still tracking GH5 have higher success rate than E-M1 II?  But mattiew from mirrorlesson said BIF on GH5 is less successful than E-M1 II.

How would you go about lenses? I'm looking into grabbing a GH5 myself starting from scratch but not sure if grabbing a speedbooster's worth it...

Depend if u want AF for stills and if you are concerned with convenience/weather proofing/size/weight, if not speedbooster with sigma lens is the killer, if yes just go native, I am going native lens and adapter only since 1..I have access to EF lens so I dont have to buy them, and 2. I do care about the weight/size etc for my own use.
