Ai... Warner suing Elon Musk on behalf of Roger Deakins

"Discovery, for allegedly feeding stills from the movie into an AI image generator to create unauthorized promotional content." "Alcon Entertainment claims in the lawsuit — filed in a U.S. District Court in Los Angeles — that the defendants used AI-generated images reminiscent of the 2017 film after Alcon denied a request to use footage for the October 10 event held at the Warner Bros." It seems that if you don't feed the original content into your AI model after being denied the rights to use the footage, you would have a better chance of avoiding a lawsuit... Kind of like when OpenAi asked Scarlett Johansson to license her voice and she said no and then they used a voice actor that sounded similar to her... OpenAi decided not to test the water after previewing the sound similar voice artist. I bet if an artist would drawn/created/made and photographed a model of a dystopian cityscape in rust colored smog/fog, and fed it into AI as reference to generate their final image even if it look similar to BR2049, Tesla would have had a better case for not breaking copyright law. It will be interesting to see the outcome of this case as maybe Tesla is intentionally pushing the limits on this to get a ruling that might favor AI generating content in regards to referencing copyrighted content... Also, we haven't seen the prompt - what if it was: "Red orange fog all around. we see a young man from behind standing, in trench coat, staring at a dystopian cityscape in red-orange colored smog/fog with rocky landscape between him and the city skyline." The image below was generate without any reference - I just used the above prompt ... warner brothers please sue imagine.art for using the flux model to generate this rather than me... Will using certain prompts get people sued? It makes me wonder.... -

There is a cheaper OLPF for these cameras available from Alt Cine, although I believe they make them in small batches which means there's a waiting list, and I haven't seen any reviews. https://altcinecam.com/product/altcine-optical-low-pass-filter/

I believe you can as long as you don’t claim it’s by either of them. Easy to copy these two as they were a bit shit. -

Sony PMW-F3 with 2500 hours on it. Should I buy it?

That one's been tempting! There are other examples out there for like 200 more with the viewfinder too -

Thanks, this is interesting info. I haven't looked into them yet, except to see the price and have my eyes go really wide! I didn't know they're also an IR/UV cut filter, which is useful although not much of a deal for me as mine is just joined at the hip with my vND filter. Also interesting to note with minimal loss of resolution, this is perhaps the greatest weakness of the BMMCC I think - imagine the image if it was a 2.5K sensor. @PannySVHS do you know what version you have? I did get moire on my trip, but it was only on a handful of shots IIRC, so although a problem, a pretty minor one, and for the kind of stuff I'm shooting which is atmospheric shots and nothing in-particular, if I miss a shot it isn't critical.

I feel like it is just about time to start a Sony PMW-F5 / F55 thread? 😉 They're becoming even cheaper on eBay than the F3 was back when I first purchased my F3 a zillion years ago! Only US $739 from Adorama, put in a "best offer" and get it for even less: https://www.ebay.com/itm/235749404194 Then get yourself a cheap XQD to SXS card adapter, and you'll be away laughing with cheap media: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003950544795.html As you can pick up 128gig XQD cards on eBay for half of what the SXS cards would cost.

I do very little cinematography work these days 😕 Working instead with lots of DPs! As a Sound Mixer, rather than being a DP myself.

all of these cameras look like shit with their stock r709 luts applied, just slightly differently. trying to shoot anamorphic without an external monitor seems insane to me

I read a couple of years ago that the newest version of the Rawlite OLPF for the OG BMPCC and BMMCC has much less impact on sharpness than the original one did. I bought mine (two, one for each BMMCC) in 2019 and 2020 so not sure if that's the latest version but the images are sharp enough for me, keeping in mind that for video I have a personal preference for less sharpness (though it's better to have sharpness and dial it back than to try to add sharpness that isn't in the image to begin with). I have occasionally experienced moiré on my OG BMPCC (which doesn't have an OLPF) but the main reason I got the OLPF was to avoid having to use UV-cut filters on my lenses. One less thing to think about and carry with me.

Great stuff! Lots of little interesting stuff to notice in there, like you making sure people are clapping in time to your soundtrack, etc. Some fun characters too - there's nothing like a grumpy person staring down the barrel of the camera lens! Those Sony 6000 series cameras can make some great images. I was considering the A6300 at one point, but an IBIS bug put me off at the time. I think the major issue for those cameras was that getting good colour out of them required more skill than people had at the time. Now there's more support for folks in terms of tools like colour management, the film emulation plugins, and more knowledge of colour grading techniques, so it's much easier to make the most of the files. Amusing about your son - kids are funny sometimes. Just as I thought I'd figured mine out (even just partially) they'd change and go through a new stage and I'd go back to being completely confused again!

I can verify I bought my BMMCC + rig from @mercer and would definitely recommend buying from him 🙂 I'm contemplating getting an OLPF for my BMMCC but you have mentioned this before and it stuck in my mind as a reason to avoid it. Did you try compensating with a bit of post-sharpening? It's a Smallrig one. I can't see it on their website now, so I assume it's superseded, but it just tilts forwards/backwards and attaches with 1/4-20 bolts to the camera and monitor. Shouldn't be too hard to find a reasonable one that fits what you want. If I take the BMMCC with me on my next trip in April next year then I'm contemplating a new monitor that's a lot brighter. I did a side-by-side with the BMMCC and GX85 on the beach a few weeks ago and literally couldn't see the Ikan at all, but the GX85 screen was totally usable.

Also when using log profiled? I thought settings in log are quite limited? S-log or v-log (have not messed around with v-log settings, left it at default)

Ai or not, the picture is far too similar to BR2049. It's a theft in my view. -
There is no way to turn down internal sharpening on Sony where as with Panasonic you can dial it down quite a bit and then mess with it later in post if so desired. Gerald Undone talks about this quite a bit as one of his main requests from Sony even on the higher end cameras like the A1. It could be a good thing or a bad thing just depends what you shoot and who it’s for. I like the more filmic image out of LUMIX for an easier color grade and have found it very time consuming to deal with the latest Sony cameras the last several years. Mostly skin tones and faces are troublesome with the exception of the more recent A1 and ZV-E1 which somehow have been less green and more neutral
-
Is the sharpness not higher on the panasonic camera's btw? (The greencast I have seen, does not bother me, might be different when owning the camera and shooting product video's)
-
I guess that includes over sharpened files with green color cast...

Since the guy is already a billionaire, i doubt that right or fair is going to come into play. Especially when more millions / billions are at stake. There's no way he going to stand there and say, what would Jesus do ? It is kinda ironic through, the movie studio's have been tying up movie rights, soundtracks, copyright for decades and longer, now their crying foul. - Last week

I mentioned here some time ago that I was planning to make a mini-doc at this year's Cambridge Folk Festival - the UK's leading such event that this year celebrated its 60th anniversary. Well it didn't work out quite how I wanted. I took my 15yr old with me and had expected that he would go off independently in search of the things 15 year old boys hope they will find, but no. He wanted to stick to me like glue, as long as he could also stick to his camping chair and his phone all day every day, so I didn't get to do the vox pops and the storytelling I had planned (I still have 200 cards I had printed with the details of how to see the film once finished, to hand to interviewees). Ah well. I've booked to go again next year. Alone! Here is what I did manage to get. Shot 4k on the A6600 - an underrated camera in my opinion and I don't think it scrubs up badly at all. This was exclusively with my now-doughty 18-105 f4 and subjected to pretty much the same grading process as the last clip I posted here ( ) Anyway. Hope you all like it. Edited to add: Select 4K and turn the volume right up!

Actually, that's true and forgot about those... OK, on a GH7 I could run that set up...but not over an S5ii set up which is what I have now. 'Sideways' I guess it would be but probably not backwards!

I have the 10mm Zeiss c-mount. I have the mount adapter but haven't changed it out yet. Always liked the look of them from what I've seen online. Still have the Fuji c-mounts as well. Still have the FP but I don't think there's a 3x crop with it... just the S35. The FP-L may have that crop, though. Right now I'm planning on keeping the 5D3 and the FP and a small set of lenses for each. I have an idea for my c-mounts that I may dive into in a few months. I sold that to @kye about 4 or 5 years ago, so I don't remember what the monitor mount was. I didn't have a cage for that one, I don't think, so it was probably just a two sided 1/4-20... one to screw into the camera and one to screw into the monitor. The one I'm selling now is a full rig with a cage, Metabones Speedbooster (Nikon F), side handle, monitor (Focus 5) and hinge mount. It also has the NPF Bridge adapter so you can use Sony NP batteries with it instead of the Canon. I think they're near impossible to find now? The whole set up is pretty compact.

I got the Fuji variante of the 12.5 F1.4 because of your recommendation. @mercer Had so much fun with it. I've been using my og pocket a good deal this summer. Used it with a 25mm Zeiss Cmount lens. Great character lens and fun focal length, fiddely focussing ring due to being so small and gnarly. Did you also sell your Sigma FP? That one should be a good home for your Cmount lenses. 3x crop does the job. What do you keep? I also need to let some of my stuff go. Not sure about the micro yet. What kind is the monitor hinge in the set which you sold to kye? Maybe i need to get one myself for my Ikan and enjoy the ergonomy a bit more.

I had posted this little gem in another thread. So here it is where it belongs.:) I just love what people are getting out of this camera. Btw one youtuber has discovered that the sensor was made by Fuji! Who is still using or has begun to use that beautiful Cinealta F3? I got one in great shape but have not come around using it. So a "get off your ass and use your vintage camera-challenge" would be awesome! Are you in? @IronFilm 🙂 Anyway, the clip:

I have way too much gear. More than I can use. And I need some extra cash, so the least used gear has to go. I'm selling some lenses too. Great camera, though. Wish I could keep it. Tested it for a few minutes the other day when I was taking photos of it and I slapped on my Cosmicar 12.5mm f/1.4 lens. The footage of my cat looked great. The crappy part is that I won't have a camera to use my c-mounts with.
