[vimeo]11951795[/vimeo] The HX5 is not the usual compact fair we’ve been used to up to now. The HX5 is the first proper HD Compact. A compact camera which does full HD video. Under the hood, we have the IMX050 Exmor R sensor. See our article on the technology here. Right now, back-side illumination isn’t the huge leap some expected, but this technology will come into it’s own as sensors get…
(Above – Exmor sensors for mobile phones) I’ve been reading some interesting tech documents from Sony related to the image sensor in their latest compacts, the HX5 and TX7. Since Sony are selling the sensor itself to clients they have a wealth of public domain information on it. In a nutshell sensitivity and speed are the aims of the Exmor R, which has a back-illuminated structure. Most of the speed…
I’ve recently written an article about DSLR video, introducing new people to the HDSLR video world for DigitalRev. They seemed to like the article and I have joined the team as a contributor. You can read the article here
Back a few months ago Sin City director and Predators producer Robert Rodriguez was spotted with a Zacuto rig and 2 7Ds on location at Zillker Park in Austin, Texas. It’s a pleasure to now be able to see it. The music video has premiered on IFC.com (the Independent Film Channel) complete with an interview with the man himself.
The AppleInsider website has some good new information on the direction of Apple’s Final Cut Pro software, and Steve Jobs himself has been answering emails on the subject.
Above: Light hitting an image sensor, recorded by Andor IQ The increase in CMOS sensor speed is what makes HDSLR video possible. But according to scientists in academic image sensor technology fields, fabrication processes used to make CMOS imagers are lagging 2 or 3 generations behind fabrication methods used in integrated circuits (IC) and solid-state memory – so we can expect some huge leaps in the very near future.
HDSLRs continue to be picked up by major film crews and network TV shows, which is a great vote of confidence in the technology. The latest is that a Canon 5D Mark II was used to film parts of network TV show American Idol, with a feature on Crystal Bowersox in her home town of Ohio. That’s all great of course but here is a reminder of why we love…
