The drawing above shows what Canon’s rival to the GH5 will look like. It is based on the form factor they introduced with the XC10 but features several ergonomic improvements and an interchangeable lens mount. The lens mount appears to support EF lenses and has a locking mechanism. However there seems to be even more going on with the lens mount than meets the eye.
It’s been interesting to watch the response to this camera. 9 days after NAB, the thread about it on the EOSHD Forum has amassed over 92,000 views which equates to 10,000 a day for a single forum post. That’s the most enthusiastic response to any camera release in the history of EOSHD going back 8 years. People want RAW recording – and they want it for cheap.
Revealed at NAB 2018, the new Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K is here. It’s much better than anyone expected. It appears to use a similar Micro Four Thirds sensor to the Panasonic GH5S and record 4K RAW internally to CFast 2.0 or UHS-II SD card. On top of that it sports an absolutely huge 5″ 1080p touchscreen, ProRes recording, Dual Native ISO, 13 stop HDR, 120fps slow-mo, USB C, Mini XLR and even 3D LUT support in-camera.
Sony have just announced the FS5 II ahead of NAB 2018.
This brings with it a few improvements, including revamped colour profiles tuned similarly to the high-end VENICE digital cinema camera.
As well as HDR and Rec.2020 4K modes, it’s also capable of DCI 4K (4096 x 2160) RAW to an external recorder, at up to an astonishing 120fps, although this frame rate is limited to 4 seconds of slow-motion capture. 4K 60p meanwhile is continuous externally, and internally the camera records 4K up to 30p.
