The prices that people are bidding on there are absolutely wild.

If I squint a bit, then I can vaguely, almost, kind of see the reason why people pay outlandish premiums for a creative tool that has been owned by a renowned artist in the vague hope that there will be some transference of magical artistic residue to them if they use it.

However, I do question how someone is expecting to up their laundry game in the same manner by paying $500 for his fucking ironing board.

I mean, I’m aware of his artistic output but was he particularly renowned for being crease free too?

they say a picture is worth a thousand words...

Proof right there. That is the new ad for the FX2 with the tagline, “Would have been the camera of choice had David lived a bit longer than he did”.

It will sell 10’s more as a result.

(Buy 2, get a free ironing board)

I’m pretty sure his last words were, “I’m gonna buy a Sony FX2”.

In fact, the actual reason for his death was severe dehydration after an epic self-shitting when he unboxed the FX2 that Sony sent for the camera review YouTube channel he intended to start.

As a counterpoint, if there's any artist absurd enough that someone might buy and build a shrine to their ironing board...

Plus there was this!

And there's some more near the end of the full episode, starting at 17:00 or so.

It looks like it's a (rare, only 100 made) Hasselblad Lusso, based on the Sony A7R

Now I know!

So there was the Lunar one that everyone laughed at and they sold maybe 3 and all to ex-astronauts. Or the blind.

This one, the Lusso looked quite cool but just 100 units sold in Hong Kong.

The best looking of these skin jobs was the Solar, but that turned out to be a hoax.

It would be quite cool to see some more custom houses such as this, a bit like Zagatto in the car world, re-skinning more mainstream models to make them a little more interesting…

Or just get them involved in the design stage and sack off your former cardboard box ‘design’ team.

I’ve always thought there would be a market for putting the more modern gubbins into older ‘retro’ bodies also.

I’d like a digital Contax G2.

You're right, and there is one called "I'm back" or something like that.  It sells a bunch of units every time it goes viral again, for some reason.  It has a film canister form factor and a 21 megapixel micro 4/3 sensor and costs about $500.  There's also one that replaces the entire camera back and has a 1/2.3 inch 16 megapixel sensor and costs $600.  If I remember right, both need a winder thingie to be attached to the bottom of the camera and they don't really have any good way of knowing when you push down the button.

There's also a medium format back which costs about $550 and also uses a 1/2.3 inch 16 megapixel sensor.  So you can turn your big medium format which used to make a big film negative into a big medium format camera which uses an action camera sensor.  🤣

Anyway.  For people who really want to use their old Nikon F3, but... worse and digital, those guys kind of have the market locked down.  And if you really want your digital G2, I bet the film canister thingie would work!  😅
