Some lovely imagery:

Sorry, Ken, not trolling you, these are just my impressions, if you enjoy it, that's fine. But to my eyes, the shadows are all crushed -  if 1/3 of the image is in shadow, we need to see detail there; colors are meh, as are the compostions. The Kowa lens looks like one to avoid.

You're not wrong there. Utterly bland.

Please, please, can we just share stuff by talented filmmakers? For the most part, I've seen far more interesting videos created by amateurs with the G85 than I have by the privileged few with the GH5.

And here we go: More disappointing video-looking stuff with Like709 Gamma and/or lot's of sharpening and nr applied in camera... Ugh
The owner of one of these videos has less than 50 subscribers, how did he get the camera?

Can we please be a bit more selective when uploading videos? Also, if you're thinking of uploading, and you have a keyboard, could you try typing a few sentences saying why you think we should watch it?

wow. You are so right,

@Ken Ross I liked it. composition, exposure, the geometry of landscape, and the music. Driftwood is the complete package when it comes to telling a story.

If I have time this evening, I'll post some screenshots and discuss just how awesome the exposure, composition and music are. Maybe you could do the same? I mean, it's one thing to just say something is the cat's meow, quite another to actually analyze the. video shot by shot. It will be a terrible bore, I know, but for you, who admire this so much, it would be a labor of love, right?

The way I saw Driftwood's piece was someone who is leaving somewhere special and looking at what he's leaving, on the other hand after a second and third look I wondered if it was a man who wants to embrace and live in this beautiful piece of the world. may be I'll give it another look tomorrow and decide what it is he's telling from my perspective. I reckon he's much more than just Driftwood the hacker and camera geek.

btw, do you analyze all you see shot by shot, 'cause I don't, as I beleive substance will always win in the end.

I don't think I'll stay up all night grabbing screen shoots Jon, so you win in that department mate, but I do look forward to your screen shots and analysis.

Fine then, mate. If I have time, I do the honors, because, like I said before, the colors are meh, the shadows are crushed, it looks worse than many videos I've seen uploaded by amateurs using their GX80/G80 cameras.

The colours are fine by my standards, especially at 58 seconds he just nailed it. I think may be it's the geography and our minds eye that we differ our opinions on, but as far as I'm concerned Driftwood picked up on those colours in the leaves  And yeah, I know he knows his music so criticise that if you dare. You may want to call him an amateur compared to others, and that's ok, but what if he challenges you to write, compose, and publish some music, what would you gonna do.

EDIT: My way of thinking regarding shadows is to crush them if they don't offer anything, and concentrate on your motivation, which of course brings me back to the substance of it all.

What I'm really concerned about is, that nothing I've seen from the GH5 looks nearly as organic as what I'm able to achieve with internal 8 Bit recorded V-Log using the GH4.

I mean, it almost looks like a downgrade, really cleanic, oversharpened, processed. Is it really that hard to produce cinematic pictures using the GH5?

This has got me thinking of cancelling my preorder- I like what I'm getting from my G85 and X-T2 more than the GH5

GH4 and vlog in the right hands is awesome, and will be for years to come. Would be great to see what you shot.

That's one example. No sharpening nor noise reduction applied (-5 both).
I never saw any GH5 footage without any sharpening applied in camera, lol.
The only answer I got from these Panasonic marketing guys was like: "All the DOPs loved the sharpening"... WTF

Same with the Driftwood video, though a bit less than others I've seen. Most likely because the Kowa  he was using can't keep up.

Well may be you should cancel your order, and look at the gh5 as a down grade, because you also feel that your "G85 slaughters the E-M1 mk2"

For $1,300 less than the EM whatever, the G85 carries its weight pretty well. I'm sure I could get results as good from the GH5 as I can from the G85, but the poor exposure, white balance and grading of most of the crap I've seen leaves me wondering...

If it's crap that you've seen fair enough, and you're making a wise decision on a camera that hasn't been released. The only thing I don't understand though is the $1,300. I thought you spent that on lenses every month.

FYI there's probably going to be a shortage of GH5s on release, at least in UK and Irealnd. I spoke to a shop in Dublin which has 7 kits on pre-order and were very surprised to be told that only 2 of those will be arriving on release date.

The guy in the shop said the Panasonic rep has never seen anything like this level of interest. I've just placed my pre-order which hopefully will be fulfilled a few weeks after March 23rd.

10bit stuff looks great - plenty of scope to get the look you want.

Hasn't this been the case of every camera release?

People get their hopes up when it's announced -> people get disappointed when they see pre production samples by a tiny group of people -> People get excited once again when the masses get the hold of the camera.

I'm sure you can get your GH4 footage to look non organic, over sharpened and over processed.
