You pipped me to the post by minutes, was just about to mention this! It's illustrated well in the video (skip to 5.55).
Specifically, in human/face detect mode when there is more than one person in the frame there's no ability to stay locked on an individual person. The AF will hop randomly back and forth between people which makes it unusable in that situation. However, someone posted that
"You have to make sure you click on the screen again after you have chosen the person to focus on. The yellow box around the selected person will then change to have 4 crosshairs around the box. That locks in the AF to that person only."
    I did not know that!
The other thing he talks about which I agree with is that there is no easy way of tapping on the screen to focus (and then track), like there used to be with the GH5. Multiple clicks are required and it's cumbersome.
A bunch of people have been grumbling about this on FB groups and someone close to Panasonic (Dan Hopkins) has hinted that they are working on a firmware update to address some of these issues.

It just feels like nitpicking to me (and meh, you can find plenty of people complaining about Sony AF too! People can nitpick anything). And as people in the youtube comments point out he's mistaken with some of his points, he was just using it wrong. Heck, the YouTuber himself admits workarounds exist! But he just doesn't like them. A rather weak objection, just doing it for the clickbait and the views? As he himself says, the AF is very powerful, and he likes it and uses it all the time.
Feels like 90% of his objection is with the UI, rather than the AF. That's certainly one of the easiest firmware fixes. (welllll... if the objections are genuine, sometimes UI "flaws" are more to do with personal preferences than objective flaws)
And Panasonic is better than most with firmware updates. Thus the key takeaway is: Panasonic's best AF is already very good, and is only going to get even better.

Early days and as with the S5 that preceded it, like it but don’t love it.
To be fair, it’s not it’s fault but more my use case for it which is long static stuff and a tiny amount of gimbal.
Edited one shoot so far with it and no idea what the critics are saying about it…but as above, fairly limited and controlled use so far.
Shot another job but not edited it yet and then a third later this week.
Really, the S1H is my workhorse for the greater part of my video work and that is a case of ‘love’ over simply ‘like’. Has a certain mojo to both using it and the output.
In other news, my pair of S1R’s came back today and just in the nick of time as I leave tomorrow for my next job. I’ve tried selling one of them once previously but came to the conclusion last week, without going Sony or Nikon (both with native or adapted Tamron lenses), I just cannot get from my current need for 4 working cameras, to 3.
Not without chucking 10k into the mix on top of all my trade in kit…and I cannot justify the cost right now. Or this year.
Not complaining though… In my ideal world, I would flip to a 3 camera system without hesitation but also unless any future camera has internal ND, using any system for hybrid work is a pain in the arse! I know because I have been wrestling with it for about 12 years and still have not found the ‘perfect’ solution.
    Does it exist? Nope.
Could it exist? Yep. Easily, if we mashed up a few of best bits of several manufacturers…
Will it exist? Probably soon. I think we are one step away and it will become reality if internal ND’s can become a common thing.
In the meantime, I will ‘soldier’ on with my pair of S1R’s for stills (and emergency video use), S1H for primary/creative filmmaking and S5ii for the more static stuff, gimbal and anything requiring good AF.

Yes, I acquired the a7siii when it first came out for its video features. It was the best option, then. As soon as the fx3 was introduced I traded. The fx3 was clearly superior as a video tool, even without the updates.
I agree not upgrading the a7siii is deliberate marketing. But if the new features of the fx3 are important and one's profession is video it seems odd to not trade up.
If a professional hangs on to the a7siii, then it is actually clear the new features are unimportant to her. The trade up cost is a tax-reducing investment and is a trivial expense, again, for a professional making a living based on video quality.
Just whining is not professional. Worse are those who say they will never buy Sony again over this. That is surely not professional.

92F reacted to hyalinejim in What's the deal with the GH6?
The issue was with light streaking when a bright area is adjacent to a dark area. I was able to reproduce it on my cam but never saw it in real world footage. I'm not sure if some cameras are affected more than others, but people were having conniptions about it on FB and YT.
I think it's such a pity that phase AF did not make into the GH6 as it would have reinforced the iconic GH line's standing.
Ha ha! No! Not for the GH6 or any other camera these days. People just make videos about cameras, it seems 😂 Joking aside, there was Olan Collardy's launch video for the GH6.

I mainly use mine for work and holiday stuff, but I did shoot this with an Isco 36 and gave it a bit of filmic colour treatment, grain etc.

After watching at @Andrew Reid's entertaining new YouTube video discussing m4/3, and more specifically, the GH6, I decided to look for some videos on YouTube and Vimeo. Strangely, I had a hard time finding many videos. I am mostly interested in the internal ProRes features of the camera, especially in 1080p and DCI-4K. 5.7K is not really something I would need right now.
To my surprise, I had a real hard time finding many samples. The lion's share of the videos were ProRes Raw samples, which look very nice, it's just not what I find intriguing about the camera.
I know times have changed and with that interests have as well, but when I saw a c-mount lens attached to Andrew's GH6, I was dying to see some footage of it. And I thought there would be a bunch of samples on YouTube of people experimenting with different optics on the most advanced m4/3 camera ever made...
    But nope.
Obviously, a lot of videographers/filmmakers have moved on from m4/3 to the greener pastures of FF. Being a FF shooter, I understand the appeal, but I still find it sad.
So that brings me back to the title of my post... what's the deal with the GH6?
I heard there were some issues with pink streaking... has that been solved or has it been discovered why it happens?
With all that said, are there any good or creative videos floating around? Have the Nick Driftwood's or anamorphic shooters moved on from GH cameras?
I haven't owned a Panasonic camera in a while, but I really enjoyed the ones I have owned/used and I find it sad that the interest is waning.
@Andrew Reid can you tell me your experience shooting c-mounts/s16 lenses with it? Do you have any samples you would share?

My argument was that we all didn't start with the equipment we now use..I am not sure that this makes this camera less capable for what it was made for..there are half a dozen Sony cameras one can choose (for around that money) and I choose noone, by the way! For me it is not a big deal, for some people this camera is a dream, and I get it..

Almost twenty years ago or not so far, this level of footage coming from so tiny form factor (body-worn, go figure!) capture devices would put all of us on the edge of the most legit excitement through these or some other boards, this is the pure and straightforward truth...
    Why not today anymore?
Or people now are merely obsessed in-between latitude and the whole subjective mantra on organicity of the outcome?
Read it as cinematic structure of the elements to frame, among them the infamous skin tones palette to celebrate this art and craft as the most human synthetic medium.

    And then?
People tend to forget filmmaking is not reality in the same proportion they/we all seek the organic Holy Grail, it's all about something anyhow undeclared fake. That's it.
    It is what it is.

I'd also argue that they've already got people's money, so they don't care. They want you to buy the next camera, not increase the value of the camera you've already bought. And it works, because more than a couple notable YouTubers ended up getting the A1 and the A7RV after selling the A7SIII, which I'm sure then influenced others to do the same since that's how it works. I just wish more people cared about this shitty behavior.

The a7siii is a hybrid camera that takes great video. But, it is not a video camera - most importantly, it overheats at high video frame rates especially. Its ergonomics are exactly the same as Sony stills cameras. If you want a video camera from Sony with the same innards, you have the fx3, which does not overheat and which has ergonomics - hardware - better suited to video.
Is this unfair to abandon the hybrid camera in terms of video upgrades? Maybe. But what are you really missing out on?
The a7siii video image is fine, same as the fx3 even post updates. The missed upgrades really do not matter that much for image quality - do you really need synched time code? Do you really care about menu configurations? Is adding LUTs beyond the REC709 viewing LUT for Slog3 important?
And, I believe the fx3 updates did NOT add built-in breathing correction; but, the fx30 has that out of the box. So, again, the fx3 and the a7siii have the same video capability. You cannot fix the overheating of the a7siii with a firmware upgrade, or give it tally lights, or a zoom rocker, or eliminate the viewfinder hump. An no firmware update made the fx3 image better than the a7siii image either.
And most if not all of the new features of the ZV E1 are laughable for serious videographers. Do you really want severely cropped auto framing? Product mode. Seriously.

Leadership position syndrome. Sony have become the new Canon. Little to No firmware upgrades. Heavy segmentation. Paper spec cameras that overheat. Zero regards towards criticism.
That being I always tell people, buy a camera (or any digital product) for what it can do today. Don't expect added specs down the line, you're most likely setting yourself up for disappointment.

I am sorry, I will not cripple motion for  people like you who judge a look solely by archaic motion. And the fact that the silly Sony camera made for vloggers on YouTube does this might actually be cause for you to rethink your judgement.
It is ludicrous to say the video has a soap opera camcorder look. Did you learn this in film school? - "the dreaded soap opera look". Give me a break.

I agree with the technical specifications. The tricks I can't say for certain though. It looks to me that cinematic mode does more harm than good at the moment. It may depends on how limited the knowledge of that person.
Anyways I haven't had a chance to test out this camera, so I'm just speculating.
If the ZV-E1 indeed can give someone with limited knowledge the ability to produce professional result, it's going to be a VERY BIG DEAL, but perhaps not so great for us professionals.😅

Haven't been following the camera market for a while and then this ZV-E1 appears. WOW. What a camera.
Obviously I'm not their target audience so it makes sense that I find it uninteresting and too expensive. That cinematic mode sounds cool until you look at the image and it looks really bad. Almost like the picture effect of older sony cameras. The AI framing thing looks much more practical and interesting but I'm sure it's not yet ready for professional work.
A season filmmaker can make great videos with this ZV-E1, no doubt. But on the hands of newbiew vloggers or regular people who want a travel camera, the ZV-E1 isn't going to give them better results than much cheaper cameras.
