As others have pointed out by those that have actually watched their initial reviews, they didn't mention overheating. That's right, an R5/R6 review that doesn't mention overheating. Let that sink in.

There's no way you could shoot any of the higher video modes and not experience restrictions. There's no way you could shoot stills and use the camera generally then switch to video modes and not see recording time reductions.

They were clearly being underhand - they obviously lied and misled potential purchasers. People would have placed pre-orders on the basis of those videos. People spending thousands being deliberatly misled.

Of course then what happens are non-shills start reviewing the camera and naturally mention the overheating. Chris and Jordan are now exposed - they can't not mention now its out in the open and is a big story - hence their later 'reviews' above.

So we can talk about agendas, its pretty clear what dpreviews reviewers agenda are - affiliate revenue first with transparency and end users best interests much lower down the list. It's dpreviews business model and if you can't see that, that's naive.

Customers like Karolina were deliberatly misled by Canon's marketing. It was sold front and centre as a 'professional' hybrid camera and focused very heavily on the video capabilities.

Yet if you listen to the fan boys it's like none of this ever happened and canon can 'do what they like'. It's pretty disgusting given people have shelled out thousands of their hard earned in good faith. If you dare to point any of this out, as Andrew and others have done, you come under sustained personal attack! The fan boys have a lot to answer for.

Enjoy being an apologist for shills.
You can try and split hairs all you like, there's zero way you could use that camera for any amount of time and not experience the issues. None.
As I pointed out, their subsequent reviews mentioned overheating because they couldn't not by that point. It had become a big story by then. They were exposed.

Your knowledge of the chronology of this appears to be faulty as you've now acknowledged their earlier 'reviews' did mention it when initially you didn't and accused people of lying. I'd suggest doing more thorough research before accusing people of lying. Unless of course you have your own agenda that isn't interested in the facts.

From the tear down it appears Canon really didn't implement much physical temp reduction at all. Given as EA has proved on here you can run over an hour 8K with this hardware you might assume that's why they didn't bother to put more physical heat managment in - because they've essentially cracked it and want to protect the C line.

So there we have it. Proven without doubt Canon lied.

Over at Canon fan boy HQ, dpreview, it's thing of beauty to watch the fan boys react to this news. The mental gymnastics required to defend Canon in light of this are really quite something.

This is the ridiculousness of the situation. Canon is missing out on a BUNCH of sales over this. You see numerous people on forums stating they'd buy if the limitations weren't there but as they are they won't. People aren't stupid, these cameras aren't impulse buys, they're very considered decisions and this news is EVERYWHERE camera people go online.

Canon makes it's money on the glass, all these missed body sales means no high margin glass sales. If they'd just delivered 4K 60 HQ 4:2:2 unlimited int people would be snapping them up and I honestly don't see how that would have hurt their C line much. Canon just got silly with hype-y specs.

This whole debarcle has bitten McKinnon hard on the ass.

He's more than happily taken Canon's $ over the years, pushed them heavily and is arguably the most popular Canon YT'er out there - the face of Canon on YT.

Then he complains people are ripping on him about the R5. Err, hello, you heavily promoted it buddy! Even made a video saying he shot a video with the R5 that didn't overheat.

Next he dismisses people raising issues with the R5 that they aren't real content creators. Again, err hello McFly, Andrew Reid, Philip Bloom, Gerald Undone etc etc etc.

Any reputation McKinnon may have had is in tatters.

Focus instead on being productive? With his R5? Talk about irony.
Don't focus on equipment? Looks like he didn't take his own advice given the vast majority of his videos are about - equipment. Actually he'd rather you didn't focus on the fact he pushed the R5 like a champ with McKinnon then ended up with egg on his face when it turned out it was a total dud.
Instead, he's now saying focus on telling stories, use stock clips and completely coincidentally mentions story blocks - for all your stock footage needs. Use coupon code 'matti' for 10% off - thanks story blocks!
    Total shill. Total joke.

You know what I think lies behind this 'weirdness', which is widespread amongst retailers, prospective / actual customers, YT'ers etc. People wanted to believe it was all possible. They really really wanted what Canon appeared to be offering. The desire was on another level to previous new camera launches. This was Canon after all.

The problem is it's turned typically more rational individuals into accepting a situation they really shouldn't. Making all manner of excuses for Canon, accepting all the ridiculous 'workarounds' etc. Basically turning them into fanboy lite.

Canon have thus far failed to publicly address any of the issues other than release the crippled time specs at launch. Their handling of this has been appaling.

You can get a Nikon D850 for about £1900 used in decent condition. Absolutely bullet proof and as refined as a DSLR can get. You don't have to 'fight' it like you do some mirrorless!
