The BRAW files on the P4K & P6K are excellent, but they require post processing. I don't care for the files if you just use them straight out of camera, like by baking in a LUT. I have tried the Blackmagic LUT, the Leeming LUT,  the Buttery Films LUT, and others, but I don't like the way the files look unless I pull them into Davinci and process them. Normally, this wouldn't be a problem, but I broadcast events live several times per week. I need to be able to apply a LUT to the live feed and have a great look to broadcast. So far, I haven't perfected that process. I am still not happy with the image straight from the camera. I am working on LUTs for this on a regular basis. We just finished a commercial shot entirely on the P4Ks and it turned out great, but we had time to process the footage.

I was really hoping you can adjust a baked in lut within the camera like add contrast or adjust whites and blacks on the fly with a baked in LUT. That would speed up the workflow instead of going through processing every time.  But it looks like cameras still can't do postprocessing that's why smartphones have that advantage.

Regarding GH5/s vs P4K, thank you for your explanation, they're definitely different cameras for different situations.

  2. Also building a PC right now

Hello, may be this has been posted already many times, if so please link me some recent topic

Need to assemply a new pc to use with Premiere and the files from my Fuji xt3, 4k, 200/400 mbit...possibily h265

I wanto to but somehting that will allow me to work trying to keep the budget as low as possible.

Right now i canno even play back the files with my I7 2600 (3.4), 32gb ram and gtx760

The first question is INTEL or AMD cpu, then what graphic card

    Thanks

I think your bottleneck could be your hard drive. You should be editing on an SSD or an NVME internal drive. Anyway here's a link sent to me that helped me with my initial build: http://www.thesagery.com/builds/ what's great with PCs is that you can upgrade your parts bit by bit to see which one will improve your workflow

All kidding aside, it bugs me to use the 10-bit on my GH5 & GH5s now that I have gotten used to the BRAW on the P4K & P6K. I love the GH5 & GH5s footage, but the flexibility of raw is just amazing.

How's the GH5/GH5s now that you compared the P4K to them?

    Sucks!

On another note - that still sucks, I have pre-ordered an P4K 20 days ago and the latest official reply was "it can arrive in one week, or two months"..

Yeah I also thought with the release of the P6K, there will be a better inventory for P4K. But it seems that the P6k is better stocked than the P4K.

The extra weight and bulk would come in handy if you had the camera mounted on an EasyRig.

Or shoulder mount? Honestly I dont think I want to use an EasyRig without an assistant or a production crew around me. Maybe it's just me because I'm not a pro, but it looks like a movie prop

I mean it's easy to crap on Canon but it's true. I'd have to say they'd take up most of the list.

I'd also put the Panasonic G95 on there, as though it's a great camera it's a marginal upgrade over the G85 and you can get the G85 for so little now that there's not a lot of reasons to get the G95. Probably not a worse value than any of the Canons in that price range, but it was a disappointing release and I've heard almost nothing about it since release, which isn't a good sign given how popular the G85 ended up being.

Agree here. Reviews for the G95 aren't great since the G85 is still a good buy

Agree about G95 and Canon. I would also add Olympus Em1X and Sony A6600.

    Same for the A6400?

For lenses, I think the PanaLeica 12mm f1.4. I can't see why a wide angle lens should be so expensive, and you won't use it a 1.4 that much.

Panasonic 10-25mm f1.7, I want to say is also not worth the price tag, just because I can't afford it.

For lights - Digital Sputnik voyager - expensive RGB lights that dont output much power

    Just arrived.

Going to test it out this evening after work and when I get some free time.

First thing I noticed after snapping it on to my GH5S...its so wide that my 82mm Nd filter (with a 77mm to 82mm step-up ring) heavily vignettes at anything below 12mm. Bummer.

Also, the 50-200 has better build quality. They really tried to control the weight of this lens. Which, btw, is nicely balanced on my GH5S with cage.

Whew that lens is more expensive than a GH5. I hope it's worth the price

  8. Personally, if I'm going to purchase a new camera and I had the budget, I'll go with the Pocket 6K. But I have invested in MFT lenses and they still serve me well. I have seen a side by side comparison of shots with the P4K and P6K and the P6K is def better. But if you remove the comparisons, no one's going to complain that you shot with a P4K, or Sony (unless they see the jello rolling shutter), as long as what's shown provides value to viewers. But I'm still dreaming of owning a P6K :)

I think there's a middle ground: I think that people should expect at least minimum level of quality from a $200 wireless system, especially from a company like RODE. That is to say, people should rightfully expect the thing to work as advertised. I'd also say though that a $200 wireless set may not be the best choice when shooting something like a wedding, where you've got one chance to nail everything. There's just too great a chance that something will happen. That's why I use a Zoom H1 and a lav. Definitely not fancy but I've never had it fail on me, which is more than I can say for most (all?) wireless systems I've worked with.

You put both Zooms and lavs on bride and groom?

Have you ever had to remove the camera pouch for inspection?

The reason that I ask is that I think the only time that I ever had to (that I can remember) is on a domestic flight in India and security made me take everything out individually and wouldn't even let me keep them in the camera insert.  So there were my lenses and camera bodies all rolling around crashing into each other in the trays as they started and stopped (and reversed) the x-ray conveyor belt.  Then there's me standing at the other side trying to put everything back into its places and keep watch over everything while the 20 people behind me are standing around me snatching their stuff and basically trying to push everyone else out of their way.

Luckily I was travelling with my wife because the security scanner was next to the line where the women queued to be searched, and the men had to be searched in a line about 6 queues up, so you basically had to just abandon your bag.  There was no talking to security either - I've seen more polite crowd control techniques from farmers loading livestock into trucks!

That was an experience I'll not quickly forget!

Yes and yup it depends on the airport. I usually visit Australia, and when I leave Aus I have to remove the camera pouch and my laptop and put them on a separate tray for inspection. That's my experience with the Melbourne airport. Good thing my bag's camera pouch is easy to pull out and zipper up and put it on a tray with the laptop. But yeah it's such a hassle especially when you're past security and have to go back to remove your gadgets and wait for it again to go through the scanners

  11. I'm using a Wandrd prvke as a backpack and airplanes allow it as hand carry. Depending on the number of camera equipment you need but I frequently use that bag on my plane travels because you can easily remove the camera pouch and laptop, then put it on a container for separate inspection.

Amazon is a bit expensive, so we try to minimize what is there and how long it stays. If you use the long term storage on S3, 50TB works out to somewhere around $200 per month, depending upon usage. The deep storage is cheaper, the other options can be way more expensive (5x-6x+). Be careful what you put in regular storage, as the price can add up quickly.

If you can get by with 6TB, Microsoft OneDrive was offering 6TB for $10 /mo, which is a pretty good deal. We use raid 6 network attached storage units with 8TB external drives as backups. We try to buy 2 or 3 drives per project and build it in to the cost of the project. I like using 6 disk network attached storage in a Raid 6 array. This gives 4 drives of usable storage, so using 12TB NAS drives gives you about 48TB of storage. This 48TB of storage costs around $3000. These drives *do* fail, so budget for replacing a drive per year in a big array.

Thanks for the info! I tried OneDrive before but the upload speeds were horrible. Been looking at Synology but it's still out of my current budget.

Kisaha, I do this all the time. It really isn't that big of a deal. Virtually all of my events are at least 3 cam events. I set the time codes on each camera and syncing later is a breeze. You will invest in more storage and soon not think much about it. I have in excess of 100TB of storage, plus online storage (S3, etc.)

As for which cam for a live event like that, I believe that I would personally bring the P4K - mostly without a speed booster. There are some really good zooms for M4/3, like the Panasonic 35-100 f/2.8 or the Olympus 40-150 f/2.8. That would give you good low light performance in a portable package. Although, in an event like that, I would really lean toward something like an A7iii for the really good low light performance and much superior focusing ability.

But, yes. The editing with take longer with the 6K footage and the storage requirements are at least double. On my machines, I have noticed no difference in playback in Resolve between the P4K and the P6K footage. All of our machines are at least 4Ghz, quad-core processors, with SSDs, so they aren't beasts, but are decent spec'd machines.

How much do you pay for your online storage? S3 I assume is AWS?

If I owned a RED then I would be very tempted to look down on the rest of the world with comical interest in what the 'little people' who 'are playing at film-making' and aren't serious because they didn't sell their house/car/wife to afford a 'real camera' and I would assume that because the P6K didn't impact the lofty place that I exhibit that it doesn't have any real impact on anyone else except the other cameras that play in the shallow end.

Of course, I don't own a RED and I don't view the world in that way, so I would beg to differ.  I think there's loads of people who shoot Canon and have invested in EF mount lenses, and who would love to record RAW but can't afford a C200, and this would be hugely interesting to them.

But in reality, I have a camera with fantastic IBIS and so I look down from the lofty place of cinematic hand-held film-making watching all these suckers slug around their tripods and huge camera rigs wishing deeply that they could leave the house without a boot full of equipment and not produce a video that has so much hand shake it looks like an 8mm home video.

Ah, but seriously folks...  I'll be here all week!   ???

The test footages actually look great on the P6K but it's not something that you can't reproduce on the P4K. But yeah the shakiness is kinda distracting if the shots are just people walking or stationary buildings

Ask me any questions you have. Disclaimer: I wasn’t able to get 6k raw to work and need to spend some time getting it in Resolve. For now... here is a first look and impression video with some footage. Some 6k raw was able to be transcoded to 1080p... but that’s it. Seriously been a pain in the neck but it is what it is....

Thanks. Too bad battery life still sucks but footages look great
