  1. i did the quiz.... 5/10, which isnt that surprising as i think i overthought a couple of those photos. At least i can say i'm halfway knowledgeable ? not sure why but it takes ages to load the shop page, several minutes for me anyway, but i found out this morning it does eventually get there. I'll end up buying the guide in a couple of weeks, i look forward to learning some more.
  2. i signed up as an interested party, should entitle me to a discount and free shipping. However i notice on other pages sirui state that spend more than $49 and the shipping is free so maybe just a discount then ? but every dollar counts i guess. i'll let you know how things progress. Now to start saving.
  3. nice to see you got it finished, been waiting awhile to see what you were up to. the link to the guide is active ?. It just hangs in space for me doesn't go anywhere at 6.30 pm on a saterday if thats any help
  4. er... get in line ? thinking about it a little more. Does it matter ? Considering all of the available content for viewing on the www, is it such a sin ? Everyone has to start somewhere. Honing the craft some might call it. I think the trick might be making it stand out from the crowd, but that could be just me I have heard it said imitation is the sincerest form of flattery lots of aspiring musicians copy popular artists once you have it down pat you can branch out with variations and make your own style. Sorry for the lecture I you don't like something you always click on the next link Personally i think anyone posting online is doing something pretty brave, considering how anonymity tends to breed some pretty destructive critics
  5. what can i say, i'm an excitable lad, i saw the word bolex and jumped on it. Figuratively speaking of course ? i'll show myself out now
  6. i second the motion, apart from maybe using a chain for the driveline of a rather robust motorized slider i cant see any reason for chain advertising in a camera forum
  7. I think i may have just joined the club. purchased this today in 16mm. I am informed it has fungus, so ill probably be pulling it apart to give it a clean. If anyone has any advice on either cleaning it or the unit itself i'd be happy to hear it the only thing i'm not sure about is if this is a projector lens and maybe this thread is talking about bolex anamorphic camera lens ? Edit : afer rereading the first few pages i realize i bought the projector lens i think please disregard ?
  8. i got some vignetting on my p4k and elmoscope with a 35mm. The mir1b at 37mm might just clear it. If your helios is 50ish you'll be fine with that. not sure about throwing the speed booster into the mix. I haven't tried my viltrox 0.71 yet. please keep us informed.
  9. give it to me, give it to me.... i'll give it a go?
  10. we should start a betting ring on whether a post will be spam or not ?

    bmp4k adventures

here is the photos of whats involved in getting the el to infinity focus. At this point its not a particularly elegant solution, it does however give you proper lens like focus. The other way of doing things is to follow tito's guide but that only gives you infinity focus and i was more inclined to having a lens with focusing abilities. I do have one thinner mft mount on order yet to arrive once i get that i'll reexamine things and find a more suitable helicoid, that should make it a two piece solution i hope. The helicoids i used were two 12-17mm. I should point out this arrangement is only for the mft mount on my bmp4k. How it would work on a different mount i'm not sure yet, i can try it on a ef mount but that will be later. i have also bought a bolex 16mm anamorphic lens, it has fungus issues, i either stuffed up the currancy conversion or i wasn't cheap enough as he accepted in less than an hour ?

dusted off the elmoscope anamorphic today, tried a couple of different lenses 24mm vignettes quite badly, 35mm just gets the corners, a 37mm might just be ok 40mm should be ok.The issue being i dont have a 37mm or 40mm i do have a 50mm so that will be the next on the agenda to try. While playing with various bits and pieces i cobbled two helicoids together and mounted that to the el nikor 63mm enlarging lens to the thinnest m42 mount i had then there's a 6mm spacer in there as well. Its not exactly pretty but i can get infinity focus. Now just need btm to add a button for stills into his app then all will be good in the world. Because its pita to press the button on the p4k in the dark lol i'll get a few photos tomorrow,
  13. it would be interesting to throw an ir filter on it and see if you could get some inferred photos. It should work. they have heightened the red sensitivity and increased the inferred pass filter, which is why the dude alludes to the colours being different and not really for normal photos. Canon did do a 60 Da that was astronomy based, was considering looking for one but now they have bought out this, I'm tempted really tempted, wouldn't even bother me if the video is complete mush the inbuilt timelapse and raw is all i need, its odd so many video modes are listed seeing as this is supposed to be astronomy related unless you put a lowpass filter on the front but even then the colours may still be a bit off. two photos from my old nikon 950 that i removed the ir lowpass filter. Sadly the only piece of glass i had is the wrong thickness glass and it only focuses on flowers at the moment, i really need to fix that.

seeking enlightenment, i ran the black magic raw speed test that came with resovle 16.1.1. It looks like my dell laptop i5 with 4 gig will only handle hd at its various frame rates. No big deal for me as i have no 4k tv yet anyway and i have been happy enough shooting 1080. I do plan on adding more ram to the laptop and i do have a usb 3 port maybe i could plug a gpu into that perhaps, something to look into. i did notice the minimum frame rate is 25 for the speed test, whats up with that ? why no 24fps ? its kinda canonish isn't it lol ? In the long run its probably a non issue, most people will probably spend the money on a fast card or two or get the samsung t5. What i do think would be cool is if bmd could implement a speed test for cards, i know bmd have a list of recommended cards to use however i think it would be advantageous if users could perform their own tests they could then decide if they wanted or needed to spend $$ on the faster cards. I know i can record braw 3 to 1 for at least a minute with a cheap 32gig card from woolworths. With 6.1 and dng's i got about 35 seconds. In one way i was kinda lucky i pre ordered waiting 5 months for the p4k gave me a chance to put a few dollars together to get the samsung t5 ssd, if the p4k had of turned up earlier priorities may have changed perhaps. I probably appear a bit stingy and you'd be mostly right .?
  15. come winter time some of that heat might be quite welcome. the bunnings lights are pretty cheap i'd lean that way too. Please pardon my ignorance, is there much difference between halogen and tungsten ? could you throw a gel in front of a halogen to balance it ?
  16. i have one already. After andrews video challenge, i bought a phone holder, i thought there was 50-50 chance the next challenge would be a phone challenge ?
  17. i'm on the outer loop then,? i got the impression this was an some kind of hardware thingy that sat between the nano or cineeye, that was an extra cost. er... i'll show myself out now
  18. i have your two other apps already, throw it in the app store for $4.99 and i'll buy it ? er.. i'm a bit of a one man band, it sounds great but i haven't the foggiest idea of what the nano would cost in addition to whatever your going to flog me. It definitely has potential. you probably need to approach it like selling a Lamborghini rather than selling a ford. Its abit more specialist rather than something everyone has. I'm not against people making money... but i'd get terribly distraught if you price it like a three letter company that starts with a r * d .? edit : i'm about to buy a cheap stepper controller kit for a motorized gopro slider, it will be a few steps below your god like level, but hey arduino's are fun and i like the voltage level, not quite high enough to induce a heart attack ?
  19. is that an ef 50mm or 50mm fd lens ? by the way , i wish you guys would stop showing awesome photos at this rate i'll never save any money ?
  20. thanks @mercer coming from you, thats high praise indeed ? honestly i think it must be beginners luck I watched one dudes youtube on how he grades, he's called the loam ranger. He does mountain bike riding and uses a gopro, he likes to shoot flat as possible. I just copied what he does with his footage and applied it to mine. Even then i forgot to adjust the sharpness and i dont think i changed the contrast, just moved the colour wheels and upped the saturation a little. I have to confess i like late afternoon a lot, the sun has less bite but has more oomph i think, and its a tad easier to see the screen. Plus the wind has usually died down abit. Now that i have dipped my toes into the shark infested waters, there probably will be a whole slew of videos pop up ?
  21. no... i suffer badly from procrastination just watched some youtubes on resolve 16 not really knowing what i'm doing, here's the second ever mini production. I even had a go at grading, next time i might add some transitions but i need to play around a lot more. I can crash resolve pretty easily, i presume i need to throw more ram at it. Having said that 16.1.1 worked better than the 15 i had before and seems to work flow better after watch some youtubes for me anyway. feel free to comment. i need to learn one way or another. shot in the back yard quite late, three static tripod mounted shots, bmp4k, russian lomo 40mm triplet, raw 3 to 1 compression. Interestingly there's a 191 Mb difference between h.264 and h.265. You guys got h.264 ? A cheap toshiba 32 gig card from woolworths worked surprisingly well with braw 3 to 1, with dng's i could get 35 seconds braw easily doubled that. would like to know how you guys shoot into the sun for flares ? i had a go at it but it ended badly maybe i need to stop down perhaps. more youtubes and experimenting i guess Untitled1.mp4 here's a pic of the adapters i had, the left is m42 i did have a m39 to m42 step up ring but when i mount the lomo lens theres no infinity focus with the l39 adapter i can achieve infinity focus. as you can see theres quite a size difference.

windows has done a couple of big updates over the last few days, whatever its done has broken viewing dng folders and image sequences. Maybe i need to reinstall the codec perhaps, not really an issue i guess since i updated resolve studio and are now playing with raw. Raw files display just fine in explorer

    Spamming

apparently theres a block function somewhere on the forum, but others have used it ans still see posts so i have not bothered. I have learnt to be skeptical of new posters. Seems like there's usually 2 spammers at a time, not counting tompeter. Sometimes i wonder if its better the devil you know. At the moment i can remember two names to watch out for easy enough, if they get blocked i'll have to watch out for some others, tompeter doesn't bother me much, never seen any good deals in the for sale section anyway. The dark cynical side of me ? has mr reid collecting kickbacks but i try to not let him out very often.?
  24. don't worry, i felt bad the first time i got sucked in too ?
