I'm not sure if it's because I've finally upgraded to the paid Studio version of Davinci Resolve, but my NX1 footage plays flawlessly... YES! No more transcoding to DNxHR and ProRes... hot damn. This frees up a LOT of Hard Drive space.
I'm using Davinci Resolve Studio - Public Beta 2

I maybe late to the party here, but this is great. My hacked NX1 with NX-L speed booster still holds up great in 2019. The dynamic range is a little weak, however the detail retention is awesome.

Sorry for the long shots, I should have filmed more yesterday evening. Movements at the railway in my neighbourhood Oostzaan. Filmed with the combo NX1 + Yashinon 45 f1.4 + Bolex 16/32/1.5x + HCDNA. Graded with the lut from Casey Wilson, The NX1 DC Kodak and Filmconvert.

Here is a VFX heavy short film I shot on the Samsung NX1 years ago, finally decided to finish it and get it online so here it is!  The last scene is the canon T3i
all lenses used are the rokinon 24mm f1.4 and Canon 50mm f1.4
Watching in 4k is strongly recommended as YouTube loves compressing things

I'm not trying to dissuade you from the GH5, I have no horse in that race. But from what I know and understand of the GH5 (or 3/4) is that the stills capabilities although acceptable, are not as good as those other alternatives. I can speak to the NX1, the RAW photos that come out of this camera are exceptional. Paired with a good lens like the S line, you're absolutely golden. This is what makes the RAW video output particularly exciting. If we can get the RAW photo capabilities from the NX1 in video as well, hold on to your panties. Malleable city.

Well that did it. Now my obsessive curiosity just kicked in. ARGH!
If this is true and the record time is decent (get ready for large and fast SD cards) this renders this camera up there with the top of the line cinema cams. That image sensor has a 14bit 6.5k RAW signal.

I am using the Zeiss 50mm f1.7. But I didn't have done any tests so far. Tried only short and results were looking good. I am at holiday for this moment and left the NXL at home. I took my anamorphic lenses only.

You're my newest best friend here. ?
I was looking at the Rokinon XEEN series but at that point as might as well just buy an Alexa and sell the blood of my first born child. ?
I've done a general search for anamorphic on a PL mount online, but since I have little experience with anamorphic I really have no idea what qualities to look for. I'm finding a lot of affordable anamorphic projector lens, but I'm assuming that won't work?
I really like the look and quality you got with your Bolex, but I don't know if thats unique to the wider format or the properties and characteristics of that particular lens? You definitely have the most experience with this that I've come across online.
I'd love if you could share some of your knowledge, like requirements to get the NX1 to conform with anamorphic, what systems are valued as the gems, what systems are considered acceptable, which ones to avoid.
I wish we lived near eachother, I'd love to talk shop and explore NX1/anamorphic setups with you, because above anything else I've seen in terms of making the NX1 produce a more filmic quality, I think you are onto something with the biggest potential.
I'd like to see some results with some diffusion filters on the end of your Bolex lens, as well as shooting faces with diffused lighting. I think this trifecta is the 3 combo power punch into filmic quality on the NX1.
    And then there's this photo:

And a recent shoot using faux cinescope in Premeire:

There's a feature slated to be shot on the NX1 that's going to hit several festivals, with the hope and actual intent to bring some positive attention to the camera.
Here's the guy's rig. I wish him well.

It is clear that Samsung show its muscles.
At least from time to time.
It is clear that Samsung is not much interested in a photo/movie CAMERA industry as we think it should be - since he has nobody to compete with ( !!! ), but this is where he show what he can really do, since as always a "regular" photo camera is something more serious compared with a smartphone camera.
Not that its smartphones cameras are not the best in the smartphone industry.
I am sure these specs, what we call right now NX2, will materialise in a real camera, but is not necessary to be produced and distributed as we want or believe it should be, it may be a limited edition as NX1, it may be a super-limited edition - not public - as for R&D show to prove its capabilities (or just its toys as someone said), it is clear politics, and not the last to show that NX line is not dead - but is not the kind of company as Canon/Nikon/Sony who make few cameras each year with so little increase in specs that only the "professional line" clients will follows each step.
I do like / love this at Samsung, every few years a real new product, some real increase in performances, for real photo lovers.
I bought NX1 last year + 16-50.S, not for Samsung name/line (also I believe in this name), but for NX1 specs/performance/price, and I am not a photo pro, the money invested are a sort of loss for me, but I will enjoy the photos/movies I did and will do with this camera.
I will ad one-two lense(s), Samsung will repair if needed (lets hope not!), and since I am an older photo sinner (yeah, 6x), for an NX2 (or whatever the name) I can trade my wife (yes, I know, Samsung will not like / want her  ), but at least I can try :-).

If we want to fantasize and speculate on the post appeared on the site mirrorlessrumors, we can say that it is very convincing, Samsung must develop new technologies to be always technologically advanced, even if these products should never go into production.
The construction of a prototype serves to test the capabilities of their products, this has nothing senseless and personally does not surprise me at all.
I agree that the marketing of the photo department of Samsung is totally wrong, communication with customers was very disappointing, but it is also true that the quality / price ratio of the NX1 and NX500 was the best ever, also it is to be appreciated that the Samsung It has never charged extra costs for major firmware updates like the professional DR color profile.
If tomorrow Samsung officially announced that it is building the NX2 I would be the happiest person in the world. I bought the NX1 in 2015, three years to replace a camera is a very reasonable time frame, I would think poor those who buy Sony and Panasonic, not even have time to unpack their new camera that after six months is already old !!
My humble opinion is that Samsung must continue to build cameras to be present in the photographic industry, of course Samsung knows that this involves the need to reorganize the work team, the technical staff must be numerically reduced and the work must be well organized to optimize expenses, Samsung has everything ready to make the leap in quality and move on to the professional video industry.
In conclusion, Samsung produces every type of electronic product, look at home you will certainly have at least three products with Samsung brand, so why close only the photographic department precluding a secure businness, having the necessary professional potential?

When talking about the Samsung NX1 camera, in the comments you clearly distinguish 2 types of people:
    The pessimists and the optimists.
    1) The pessimists are those who have never had an NX1 in their hands;
    2) The optimists, that is, the enthusiasts who own an NX1 and are happy and satisfied, some of them sold the NX1 by switching to another camera but regrets the NX1.
I do not want to speculate on the news of a possible NX2 (although I would have reason, considering that I worked a lot and lost time to support the NX system with the NXL speed booster), I just want to say to the defeatists who think it is not convenient for Samsung, that the camera market is niche, which in 2018 will drop an asteroid on the earth, etc ...
Maybe Sony is crazy about investing in the photo market? Yet he took a lot of the market away from Canikon!
Nobody knows the business dynamics of a giant like Samsung, sometimes certain products are produced for different reasons, to be present in that sector too, to show muscles, to satisfy customers, to experiment with superior technologies to be used in another sector such as that of the smartphone. Some time ago I hypothesized that after the release of Red Hydrogen on the phone market, Samsung could get a professional camera that was able to incite fear to the Red camera, this thought is not so crazy if you think about it.
The Iphonenauti sect is difficult to erase but the sales of the Galaxy 9S could be annoyed because of the many guys who are passionate about photography and video that would buy a Red phone instead of a Samsung.
Did Samsung expect double the NX1 camera sales? Well, just double the sale price and get a better result! I for the NX2 would spend twice as much as I paid the NX1 and buy the new Galaxy 9S, why? Simply because it knows how to do everything right, it is a small and light camera that never disappoints you.
When Andrew says that Samsung is the only one who can do it, it also means that Samsung has cut many design costs derived from NX1, also has all the components that are used in other appliances.
I think they should focus only on a high-end model, the NX2, the top of the class, no compromise, the best camera on the market with a single set of S lenses including the monstrous 300mm f2.8 ready and never marketed!
A dream maybe but dreaming does not cost anything and then it is not so far from reality.

Well we know that Samsung is definitely announcing the S9+ with one of these processors in about 2 weeks time Mobile World Congress in Barcelona Spain. The sad news for north Americans is that Qualcomm has a lock on our market as far as phone tech, and will not allow Exynos processors to be sold here.
If you want that phone and processor you'll have to get your hands on an international version. That being said, Qualcomm might have some new features slated for this phone as well.
The phone is happening with similar specs in the rumor. As far as an NX2, like you I will believe it when I see it.

But, if I were you... Because you are coming from the NX1... I’m sure you haven’t invested in many Canon lenses....
Go with the Gh5... and later the Eva1...
You know that Panasonic won’t disappoint in the long run.... and because your a bonafide film student... you of all people should appreciate the 6K opengate anamorphic mode....

I agree, a C100 Mk II and an 80D would be my choice. Not so much for image quality (which is still very very good) but convenience. Once your workload scales up, every hour transcoding or fixing weird Sony SLGO2 colors is going to cost you $50-$100 minimum... But at first you don't want to pay a ton and get into debt. So I think Canon's cameras combine the ease of use and image quality that's required without costing a ton, even if you can get a little more with a lot more effort by spending a little bit less elsewhere. For hobbyists and people stealing locations, I think mirrorless is cool. But for getting into paying work the C100 Mk II imo is the best choice (it would also be my choice for personal work, but that's a personal preference).
I think the 1DC would offer a better image for the price, but not by much, and only with a lot more overhead for storage and a lot more kit to set up focus aids and accessories, etc.
If you're starting a business, I would say C100 Mk II for sure. Otherwise, just whatever intrigues you most as a hobbyist.

I agree - I'm not sure how much of an 'upgrade' you expect from your NX1 in terms of the quality of results as a hybrid photo/video machine. From what I've seen the Nx1 is more than enough quality wise for somebody starting out.
Might it be that you're thinking in terms of looking more pro to pick up additional work? In which case a Canon (C100, 1DC, 5D) does look more pro, without giving you any significant quality increase from the NX1.
Personally I've found more and more that one camera doesn't cover me for top quality stills and video. I now use a dedicated photo camera and dedicated video camera, which isn't ideal.
As you're at an early stage in your career and looking to improve your craft, I'd say any modern hybrid camera or DSLR should be good enough. One thing you should think about is frame rates - if you're hoping to recreate some of the modern styles of travel vids and promos, slow mo is used quite heavily as is hand held camera movement. Perhaps something like the GH5 with decent slow motion and decent stills, along with great IBIS would work for you?
The 1DC is great but doesn't have good slow motion, while I personally find the 1DX ii too heavy and big for travel, and it lacks a little flexibility without a Log profile.
    Just my thoughts.
