    Guys, Love this

    @dunjoye

I shot this with The Canon C500 IN 1080p and the Canon 1DC. It is such a special camera.

I was also looking at selling for the 4k 60p auto focus of the Canon 1DX 2. If the 1DX 2 just had that lovely super 35mm mode I would be gone.

    Still love my 1DC.

C500 &The 1dc work hand in hand so well.  For 2k 60p and 4k the c500 is worth  checking out. I have seen them going for £3k used.

Yup. Still hasn't been beat. Literally...nothing else can beat the camera in 2017 from canon. 1DX II is a little bit of a downgrade...but Im considering selling my 1DC for one just for the dual pixel AF.

I hear ya on the dual pixel AF point. Pulling focus on this needed a bit more attention to detail.

I think even at baked profiles, the 1dc still has a better roll off and mojo that the 1dx doesn't have.

It's magic. I have upgrading considered the 1dxmkii so many times. But its not the same when I shoot with it.

People will never stop finding deficiencies & faults and then asking for more. This is why these companies are treating us like babies, because we are indeed babies. I have my GH5 from July and i don't see any faults or deficiencies here. Better low light performance would be welcomed, although i don't see my self paying a grand more for this. But you never know, :) babies are unpredictable.

    True.

I think over the last decade DSLR shooters have now divided into 3 demographic

.Those that actually want to get work done. Shoot shoot shoot

.Those who still think their creativity is hindered by the capability of their tool

.Those whose sole interest is looking for faults and improvements.

To me it seems panasonic are now catering a lot more for the later 2. I dont know if iits a good thing. But it sells boxes to a nuche market

Regardless of what sensor or codec this new camera is going to have, The GH series  mojo and the color science will remain the same.

  4. So much undiluted fraff posted in here with regards to canon and mjpeg codec. It makes you wonder if these people have actually used these in real life situations.

people are happy to shoot raw via magic lantern, spend hours in post, only to end up exporting at h.264, 8bit on to youtube. Yet, they want to knock the mjpeg format, which is significantly less hassle to process.

I still shoot with a 1dc 4k mjpeg format and I am yet to see a competitor dslr/mirrorless that offers similar motion cadence, color science and detail with superior spec on paper.

If the Gh5 answers all questions for dslr shooters, why are they still out here hunting for other competitors to give them sometging similar on paper?

Stop worrying about codecs, all these cameras are capable.

I think the new Tamron 10-24 would be a great "16-35mm" equivalent as well with the 5D IV. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1317273-REG/tamron_afb023c_700_10_24mm_f_3_5_4_5_di_ii.html

Pair that with a sigma 18-35mm and you have a really solid kit shooting a high bit rate 4k.

I have found a very significant different in my MJPG 4k because of that 4:2:2 codec. Its great...once you transcode it...

Bro, I LOVE your stuff here. Amazing.

It's unfortunate to me that the 1DC isnt as widely used. If people just changed their thinking of it to a proper CINEMA camera, like an URSA mini, Alexa, or RED...they wouldnt be complaining about the higher bit rate recording or lack of AF.

Knock, knock was 100% shot on the 1DC. You can see it on Hulu I think right now.

    Interesting.

I didn't know this film was shot with the 1dc. Looks really good. I need to watch that.

The 1dc is a beast. It has its draw abcks, But. they are easy work arounds

The AF on the 1Dx II is really good, this is a test video for a project I will do for in August... don't look at the exposure issues because it was a 1h test mostly to see how to combine a DJI P4p and the 1Dx II. There are some scenes at speed on the skates filmed at 24 at 1.4 on the Ronin M using AF and it keeps up quite well... Filmed with both cameras at 4k but there are quite a bit of moments that I'm digitally zooming at 2x.

love it .... That looks good

I literally have the ability to sell my 1DC and accessories and buy a 5D IV today. I would not do it. The 1DC has a mojo to it that is sorta indescribable. A 24-105 on it looks amazing even at F4 because of the full frameish 4k.

One thing people fail to mention is the lack of cut off you get with the 1DC AND the really sharp and really high quality Super35 mode. I've shot super35 mode for times when 4k isn't needed and it holds up better than our C100 because of the better sensor.

You can buy them at a steal today on the used market.

I always use a monitor or evf tho and that kinda sucks but it's worth the trade off.

I basically pretend that the 1DC is like an Arri Alexa Mini or RED camera and it suits my needs well. No AF for video but amazing 4k.

    Love the 1dc!

posted this before. I shot this on it. Hardly did much in post

People complain about mjpeg. But its Robust when converted to Pro res HQ.

These are some Screen grabs from a Drama I am working on. Shot on the 1dc

Obviously I am referring to every single human being and extraterrestrial life force in the entire multiverse that purchased the GH5... what else would I mean?

Thanks though, I'll remember hyperbole is frowned upon on this forum.

    ??

I agree with your initial point. I think the canon REC709. vibrant rich colour look is often tried to be re produced wiith Luts but its never close on the DSLR range of cams.

Looks good! Would like to see a few more samples under different conditions before forking over the cash.

    co sign.

this footage and look is very impressive.

Every camera as a sweet spot.  Once you hit that spot, Every lut would slot in nicely. (pause)

Until it's time to grade and on one hand you've got 10 bit log in a beautiful colohr space and on the other you've got a single fixed 8 bit profile.

Sigma are late to FE because they're working on original lens designs instead of just porting their DSLR lenses. I'm interested to see how far they can get the size down.

Regardless of what bit the Gh5 has, its not producing those colors.

For the Journalist, wedding videographer, Vlogger and Creative Content Type, The Baked look out the can does the trick. With light grading. Its a content hungry audience out there. Clean,Sharp, Vibrant  Rec709 look, goes a long way.
