Wait! Not listed as one of the Netflix authorized (Approved... no less, insane!) cameras?? Really? No way! Who wants such crap of device? *cough cough* Who will buy to exhibit it anyway? LMAO hehe
Sorry guys, couldn't resist! Marty is one of those who will fully understand me! Fortunately, not the only one! ;- )

Thanks for making the connection. Pretty cool! She’s great. I got emotional at Little Garlic shot on iPhone - so well done! If I’m being for weddings etc I probably wouldn’t default to the iPhone. But as a non paid enthusiast it’s quite the tool. It’s probably going to be my next platform. I’d love the a6700 form factor but even when I had the xt4 the size of the footprint between lense and body wasn’t convenient for casual use with friends family or travel. It would take too much to be in the moment. I still have the Ricoh Giiix and will compare it to the iPhone 15 when I grab one.

Just waiting on an ND solution so I can use a quality VND.

Short film directed and written by Jessica Yu-Li Henwick who has starred in various big budget productions for cinema and tv, such as "Game of Thrones" or "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery". She is also acting in the leading role. The film was shot pretty barebones on a Xiaomi 11 with a gimbal being put to use.
Here is a very cool interview, talking about finding the right DP, why she shot on a phone and requirements to film without extra lenses or big accessories. Also about scheduling and preparing the shoot while being on set starring in "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery" and where she drew inspiration from for her film.
Great interview and insight about the filmmaker, her film and her process. I really enjoyed film, cinematography and image quality as well. The other film above my post looks equally appealing to me btw. So here are the article and interview with Jessica Yu-Li Henwick:

Resolve has an AI depth map plugin, but the edges aren't good enough to use yet, and neither is the above.
It will get better, but it's got a way to go.  Flyaways in the hair is the giveaway, and unfortunately it's both very difficult to do effectively, and it's also visually quite obvious.  If you want to use this technique then you'd have to sacrifice the more cinematic lighting and compositions to hide the artefacts.

Well, actually yes, for most people, most of the time.
It’s not quite what I’d do today but was an approach I took once.
The phone is the most convenient but for me there is zero joy in that.
I personally cannot be bothered to lug around a full sized mirrorless with a decent sized zoom, never mind a bag full of options.
If I was going on safari, fair enough, but more general travel & trips, nah.
The compact for me could work…but it’s a bit too close to the phone so I always ended up using the phone. This is based on a Sony RX100V and later the ZV1.
The sweet spot for me therefore would be in no particular order, but selecting one set up from each sensor size:
    Olympus OM1 + 12-40mm f2.8
    Fuji XS20 + Sigma 18-50mm f2.8
    Sony A7CR + 20-70mm f4
I think the APSC Fuji/Sigma combo is the most compact and lightest and though has a shorter focal length than the M4/3 combo, but has more cropping potential, but there is just something special about the OM1 and that lens that makes it very satisfying.
I had it briefly, loved it, but it did not have the outright pro capability compared with my FF stuff for my work, so sadly sent it back.
I personally would go with the Sony because it’s basically as compact as the others, the lack of a decent rear LCD and only a single card slot would not bother me for non-pro work and neither would f4, because the big draw would be being able to crop the f*ck out of that 60mp full frame sensor and forgo the ‘need’ for a longer focal length.
For me, a travel camera that is not pro work needs to be a ‘one and done’ set up.
The only other contender for me would be the Sigma FP-L but it’s just (sadly) too damned quirky and flawed.

Or the GX850/GX800/GF9 camera, which is discussed heavily in this thread...
The rules in travel shooting are simple:
    Rule 1: Get the shot.
To get the shot you must have your camera with you (so it must be small, must not have been taken by security, and must not attract too much attention from others around you).  You must have it handy and ready with the right lenses (so a zoom is often more practical).  You don't know what you will encounter, so you must be able to shoot quickly.  You don't know what will happen and how you will edit so get a lot of varied coverage.
Rule 2: Get a high quality capture of the shot.
This rule is secondary to the first rule.  If anything about the camera decreases your ability to get the shot (rule 1) then it is hurting your efforts, not helping them.
Rule 3: The magic is in the edit.
Once you've returned from shooting, get to work.  Even a casual review of any travel TV series will make it obvious that the individual shots are not what make the show great, but the editing and storytelling and sound design.
If you want a good travel film, shoot a lot then open up your NLE and get to work.
Here is an award winning episode of a travel TV series - I encourage you to look through it and analyse the footage and the edit, as I have done with many examples.  I think you'll find that almost no shots are beyond a modern point-and-shoot.
    (NSFW)
I have done frame-by-frame analysis of this episode, and this is one of the finest examples of editing I have ever seen.  It has a complex and nuanced storytelling and cultural narrative, has great music and sound design, uses more editing "tricks" than those nauseating YT travel videos that used every fancy transition they could find, and does it all in a way that is sensitive to the narrative.
It makes even the best YT editors look like toddlers playing with crayons.

Compact travel definitely rx100vii or vi hands down, 2 of my friends went to compact big zoom DC for travel and leave their mirrorlees behind at home. One guy sold his Tamron 28-200mm too cause even that is big for him.

For me I probably get osmo pocket 3 for my compact travel gimbal camera.. can't assed bring an actual gimbal.

Has anyone invested time into thinking about this?
    - not me. but you have several times before over the course of last year.

The iPhone 15 with log may be the win for ultimate travel ease
    - good pair of shoes is. Phone without log is lighter though.

but curious about the quality bump and portability of these two bad boys.
    - watch markuspix and save big money. who needs bad boys.

The smaller the footprint the less barrier to entry and more desirability to create
    - not at all. joy of using is.

Buy any 3 of these you keep on mentioning. I think you really want to, considering your posts of the last one or two years. Meanwhile with a grain of salt but very entertaining and informative.

No, not invested any time thinking about it, but cost aside, hands down the A7C II (for me) because of the ability to crop much more than the APSC camera based on both sensor size and mp, regardless of lens type or focal length.
I did look at this camera a few months back and if my memory serves, in 2 areas it was a hard no for me:
    Relatively low res LCD.
    Single card slot.
Actually I looked at the A7CR with even greater capacity to crop…but then decided I’d rather have (if I was hypothetically going to go on this direction) the A7VR which is actually my favourite ‘compact’ mirrorless of the moment.
But budgets and sizes creeping up here…

I'm also curious to hear from @BTM_Pix on why this doesn't move the needle for him, however I can imagine a number of situations why it wouldn't be a revelation for folks.  For me it's a revolution in phone footage, but it's not a revolution in how I shoot.  Here's an outline of my thoughts:
The iPhone 15 main camera creates a nice image, but is an 8K sensor with a fixed 3mm F1.78 lens, which with the crop factor of 8.0 is equivalent to a 24mm F14.2 lens.  This lens can employ a 2x crop and still be 4K, but beyond that is upsampling. The iPhone 15 other cameras have shown that unless provided enough light (basically they need direct daylight) they exhibit significant noise An RX100 has a 9-72mm F2.8-4.5 lens (with a crop factor of 2.667 is 24-192mm), which means there is no cropping below 4k when zooming beyond 48mm equivalent, and compared to the iPhones tele camera (5x 120mm f2.8) will keep its 4k resolution when zoomed beyond the 120mm iPhone camera Other fixed-zoom cameras like the LX100 will be similar to the RX100 For me, when comparing the iPhone to the GX85, there is no competition.. The iPhone 15 has real log, is small, has PDAF and can instantly change between various focal lengths
however.. The GX85 can be fit with F0.95 primes for low-light ..has a tilt screen for overhead and low-angle shots ..can use super-zooms like the 14-140mm ..can be used with extreme telephotos like my Tamron 400mm F5.6 prime etc However, let's do something radical and assume we want to make a film, and assess things from the perspective of that end goal.
The iPhone allows you to shoot very fast, and provides good image quality at one or two focal lengths, and good image quality in a couple of others in direct daylight conditions.
The main camera has zero background defocus when focusing further than 7ft away.   The iPhone 5x tele is equivalent to a 120mm F22 lens with a DoF of 1.76ft at a 10ft focus distance, but the RX100 has a DoF of 0.38ft at 10ft focus distance when it's at 192mm full zoom, and the iPhone 5x camera will be cropped to 2.4K from its 4K sensor at that focal length.
The iPhone lacks the ability to optically zoom to the right composition without cropping past 4K to lower resolutions.
The iPhone is a great camera if you want small size, to work fast, and have a "I get what I get" type of shooting style, but not many films would start with the final product in mind and work backwards to arrive at the conclusion that the iPhone, and all it's limitations, is the perfect tool for the job with the least compromises compared to other options.
My current setup that I will trial for my next holiday is this:
    iPhone 12 Mini
for very low-key shots and for use when moving fast like going through airports etc where I need to think about other things but want to grab a shot here or there GX85 with 12-35mm F2.8 zoom (and iPhone wide camera for ultra-wides)
for times when a small camera is ok and I need to shoot very quickly to get spontaneous moments GX85 with 7.5/2 + 17.5/0.95 + 50/1.2 primes
for low-light times, such as sightseeing at night, going into caves / mines / etc P2K or M2K with 12-35mm F2.8 zoom
for times when I can work slowly to expose and focus manually / slowly, there is good light, etc If I bought an iPhone 15 Pro my iPhone shots would be improved, but it's not replacing the GX85 because it can't zoom or operate in low-light, and doesn't come close to the IQ of the P2K or M2K cameras which are closer to the IQ of an Alexa than the iPhone.

I have an A6500, so not the A6700, but the A6500 has a reputation for overheating too. I've never had a problem with overheating myself, even during our hot California summers. Big caveat, however: My "takes" are rarely longer than 1-2 minutes, so the camera has time to cool down between takes.

I will have my nerds eye on this cam. If overheating is manageable for 10min takes with 2min breaks, then it would be interesting. That's an estimate that even rhymes.:) No hurry though. Maybe @SRV1981has settled for one though I would still suggest an og S5, if Hdmi is not needed and size is not a major obstacle.

Any A6700 users here? How is overheating in practice from your experience? I havent owned a Sony photo/hybrid camera since a 1/1.8" 5MP CCD camera in 2005, a Cybershot W1. I loved the colours from it.
I am thinking about trading some of my unused stuff in for the Sony. Overheating behaviour of the body in 4K recording would be the main criteria, barebones without or blowers attached to the body.:)

i had to postpone because i got sick and meanwhile  i realize that i don't want to buy that s5iix only because it is a bargain. Lenses are expensive and big, also the body is big..so to have a bulky set i 'll finish spend more than my budget anyway. Then there is the crop at 50/60. Also one of the best feature, usb recording, i amnot going to use because it will need a rig! I want a light and quick setup, an that is not. Eventually is a deal i should have done with a very suspicious person... So xs20 or fx30 remains as choices

    A cam: R5c
    B cam: R5
    C cam: Insta360 1 inch, Insta360 RS and Insta360 GO, iPhone

My biggest usage for the iPhone is on top of my R5c especially when I’m using long lenses >=300mm to have a wider pov, for equestrian it is my standard setup. Or in places where a normal camera is too cumbersome e.g. some b-roll inside a cramped helicopter.

Btw I’m pretty sure that all the “YT guess iPhone 15 vs best camera in the market” they start with the best conditions for a phone, then grade what the iPhone can take and then have the more pro camera match it. The inverse would show a different story imo. Again, it is incredible the progress that iPhone had in the last years but still not comparable to a good camera. Imo it sits closer to a Gopro than a mirrorless camera. Super useful feature are the 3 focal lenses, good stabilization, log and you have it always with you.

SRV1981 reacted to gt3rs in iPhone 15 Camera Update - Released
I got my iPhone 15 Pro Max (upgrade from 13 Pro Max) and some early observations:

Quality is good when in shooting good conditions but breaks quite quickly if you miss exposure, in low light, etc.
Log files can be graded easily and have no over-sharpening, can take some post processing but way less than R5c RAW files, the difference imo is night and day as it should be. The same for details compared to R5c is just worlds apart.
BMD does not allow you to use 2x lens, zooming 2x with the 24mm lens the quality is quite bad (very blotchy, full hd at max). I did not test yet with the apple camera and the 2x “cropped” lens to see if is better.
No Log + Cinematic in either Apple Camera or BMD
H265+Log is a good compromise size vs. Quality and you can record all fps internally.
120mm lens I find it a bit better quality than the 77mm of the 13, and a more useful focal range for what I normally cover.
I have BMD set to save to Files, then I connect a USB-C CFexpress or SSD and move the files in Files, is the quickest and easier method for PC users. Much better that the previous phone that was a nightmare to get the footage out from a PC.
Action button is useful as you can set to start or even start recording in the BMD.
Still need to get use to the BMD UI, with no hw button/wheels changing things rapidly is a bit of a pain for me.

Overall, with Log and the 120mm is big update and I will use it even more than my previous phone, especially as B or C cam.
Using it as a main camera is a big stretch and I think I will be mostly disappointed.

    Frame grab 4k Log 120mm.
