Yeah I’ve watched a bunch of A7S3 videos and unfortunately can’t  say I’m very impressed by the colors, skin tones and overall look.  It has that alpha series video look I’m not so fond of.
Of course the 10-bit makes for smoother grading and the ALL-I fixes the horrendous motion cadence of A7III, but the absence of S-Cinetone is a shame.
On the PotatoJet video you can really see what I’m talking about as the footage intercuts with FX9 footage that looks so much more organic/filmic.
Of course when shooting 4K120p with cine/telephoto lenses the footage looks tasty but otherwise I havent seen anything really impressive.. yet.
Will keep an open mind though as this camera ticks many boxes, but after the initial hype passes.. IQ is really what matters to me in the end, especially when considering a 4200€ mirrorless.

Until the part that he is cancelling the C300 III I would have given the doubt but it smell a bit fishy with his conclusion..... also not sure why you choose a cinema camera with ND, RAW, can run for hours, great audio control, etc.... and suddenly an hybrid is better... would he have chosen an FX9 then I would understand.

But if he mostly uses for indoor fixed scene like his YT channel then you get two camera and you don't care to much about the advantage of a true cinema camera.

The problem with all these YT review that is a race against time and you cannot really compare with others view that are all under NDA so you don't have any input on what to double check. If they would do the review after a few weeks that is broadly available would be much better but nobody will care at that point....

I said it before - wide discrepancies in reviews. The problem with Gerald is that he always goes above and beyond to test, and thats what he is known for - but this seems an obvious fail. Is it intentional or did he just miss it? I think a bit of both.
You will see for yourself how serious he is as a reviewer with a statement like: "i will replace c300 mkiii with a7siii".
This is a very juvenile statement, and you can see what kind of mind he has thinking the c300 and a7s are somehow equivalent.
Perhaps for the use in youtube studio it is so.
He knows a7s will sell better through his affiliate links than c300. Must continue to hype as "perfect camera". Meanwhile, he shows few seconds of actual footage (not shot by him), which looks like camcorder footage.

Also after watching the Gerald Undone video, I’m a little suspicious over his motives.

He went the extra mile with the R5 overheating tests, causing many people to cancel their R5 pre-orders.. but then says in his video “the A7S3 doesn’t  overheat” when we know from several sources it does overheat and VERY quickly at that in direct sunlight.
I guess he covers his bases at the end when he says he only did “lab tests” i.e no outdoor field tests.. but not such a thorough reviewer after all.
Furthermore, he mentions several times that he cancelled his C300 II purchase in favor of two A7S3’s. He never goes into the reasons why. I find that kinda sus.

So the Canons have overheat issues and get bashed to death, memes and all.. but the new Sony, who in a clear comparison test shuts down completely under 23 minutes and before the R5 sitting next to it.. and it gets a free pass? Kinda sounds like double standards.

I'm aware of that yet in sunlight the R5 beat the A7S3. Also at least that "BS lineskipped 1080p looking 4k" doesn't brick the camera, whereas A7S3 seemingly failed in 4K24p under 23mn.
Let me be clear, neither situation is good. If you shoot outdoors in the summer or live in hot climate it's basically a no go.
All I'm saying is Sony deserves the same amount of scrutiny that Canon endured in the last few weeks.

    First R5 vs A7S3 comparison..
As far as overheat, the R5 actually BEATS the A7S3 in exterior Florida heat test in 4K60p. A7S3 shut down in 23mn!
Indoors however, A7S3 had a clear lead it seems.
Overall A7S3 seems like the more flexible video tool in all areas, but overheating remains a reality and this real world test seems to show worst performance on the Sony in hot weather.

I don’t see anyone talking about the very low expected rolling shutter. We got a preview of it from that German Vlog (I’m now 99% sure it was shot on A7S3).

That’s another really strong edge for this camera IMO opening up all kinds of action shots and fast camera movements. Pretty excited to find out more about that.

    XAVC S/XAVC S-I is H.264, XAVC-HS is X.265, XAVC-HS is limited to 200Mbit, XAVC-S-I up to 600Mbit, XAVC-S up to 100Mbit, really weird that Sony stick to 100Mbit on both 420 8bit and 422 10bit.

B&H video is basically one big Sony commercial. Salesman in the video would literally have you sign a mortgage if he could. Zero critical thinking. We’ll have to wait for more independent sources to know it’s potential flaws, especially real world overheating limits.
But anyways, video confirms all the rumors and puts an end to speculation. We finally have a Sony Alpha camera with 10-bit ALL-I codecs & 4K HFR. Enhanced AF. Touch AF. New menus. About time.
Still I can’t help but not feel too much excitement. Maybe I’m just being conservative because after a 6 month Canon hype train we were met with utter disappointment.
Or maybe it’s because it feels Sony is playing catch-up. I mean Panasonic, Fuji & now Canon all offer 10-bit & 4K60p. And with at least twice or more MP for stills. Just doesn’t feel so special.
Of course there is a lot to like here as well, but after a 4 year wait and for a whopping 4200€.. I guess I was really hoping my expectations would be exceeded.. but instead they were just met.
All that said, if indeed the thermal balance is double that of Canon and there are no nasty surprises, I will most likely pull the trigger.

Well now that we know A7S3 will have thermal cutoffs, we need to focus on what we learned from the R5/R6 debacle.
Meaning how long and under what temp condition does 4K60p/K120p reach overheat?
What are the recovery times? Will 4K24p always be available? Will 10-bit 4K24p cause heating up?
Regardless, it looks like 1DX3 & S1H are still the only FF hybrids with internal 10-bit that don't overheat.. disappointing.
I still don't know what new camera to choose lol.

The article is way too detailed and sheds a lot of new info not rumoured anywhere such as the new XAVC-SI & HS codecs, 16-bit ProRes RAW via HDMI 2.1, new AF system.. and thermal cutoff times.
So what is there to gather? A7S3 WILL OVERHEAT. Just less than R5.
    4K60p FF no crop =  1 hour
    4K120p crop = 30mn
Now let’s wait and see how that translates into real world use.
    Battle ain’t over IMO.

Django got a reaction from Trek of Joy in Canon EOS R5 / R6 overheating discussion all in one place
So A7S3 specs have leaked and plot twist: it will also overheat and has a thermal cutoff..
" One focus of the camera is video recording. Unlike Canon with the EOS R5, Sony does not use 8K for video, but continues to use 4K, which is said to achieve the best results so far with an alpha camera. The sensor’s 12 MP resolution enables a full-pixel readout without pixel binning and without crop up to 4K / 60p. In this setting, the recording limit should be one hour without overheating – the EOS R5 only manages 30 minutes at 4K / 60p. The video recording of the Alpha 7S III in 4K / 120p mode is limited to this length – by the way, a slight crop is used (1.1x).S "
    i.e.
    A7S3 FF no crop 4K60p is rated at 60mn & 4K120p = 30mn
Better on paper than R5 but how will it play out in real world situations? hopefully we get an answer tomorrow with the hands-on.
