  1. ^ Again, R6 overheats in all 4K modes. Not a camera I would trust on a pro shoot. B-cam for short clips maybe.
  2. Yeah R6 overheats in all 4K modes. Once it overheats, you basically gotta wait for it to cool off (which depends on shooting environment temperature). It clearly isn't the right tool for long interviews or all day run & gun shoots. Maybe ok as a B-cam. A-cam never on a pro shoot given the uncertainty.
  3. ^ 4K24/25/30p is same situation. Only R5 has "Not limited by heat" 4K24/25/30p modes.
  4. All that video does is confirm the official Canon overheating chart: R6 will overheat in all modes. clearly not the camera for long interviews or all-day run & gun shooting. Behiri jumped the shark and shouldn't have used that camera for his 2-day shoot, wrong tool for the job but I guess you learn the hard way.
  5. Actually according to Canon, the R6 does have a time limit in 4K30p and hence overheats. Only R5 has a "not limited by heat" 4K30p mode: We know nothing of the temperature or length Behiri was shooting at so maybe nothing too surprising considering the above chart. Anyways, R6 is off my list for now but I still have some hopes left for R5.
  6. Damn.. that is a scary bad review. I sincerely hope R5 does a better job than that but in any case I will be awaiting more in-depth reviews of the overheating before even considering purchasing it. Very alarmed by this even though the details are sketchy.
  7. As an ex-wedding videographer I can assure you there is a market for night-time low light events. With the new AP deal I could see some news broadcast agents make use of it as well. Specialised market for sure but then again that is what the S is about!
  8. I’m assuming for the low-light capabilities. That is the one area where this camera should trump the competition.
  9. ..so half the MP of an A73, no oversampled 4K, and a slight crop in all shooting modes? all that for $3500? in a couple regards, it kinda feels like a downgrade. 10-bit & no overheating sounds nice but it’s not exactly mind-blowing either given those caveats and it sure looks like Sony have been very careful as to not cannibalize the rest of their camera lineup, including the ever so popular A73 and flagship FX9.
  10. Where do you guys read no IBIS? The latest rumors talks about a digital IS function add-on, which coupled to IBIS and lens IS should give similar results to what Canon is offering on R5/R6 (IBIS + EIS).
  11. Again I respectfully disagree. Z6 isn’t bad but you’re making it to be a bit more than what it is. Z6 can’t shoot RAW. You need to send the camera in for a paid upgrade and then it unlocks ProRes RAW externally. You’ll still need to buy and attach an Atomos recorder. Not a very elegant, practical or cheap solution. The inclusion of internal Log recording would be much more useful on a MILC. Also your claim that “ Nikon Z6 is after all the only sub $3K FF camera with 4K raw!“ is false. Sigma FP does FF internal RAW DNG recording for $2K.
  12. ^ we're not talking about the Z50 but the newly announced Z5. @IronFilm Let's agree to disagree. I see nothing impressive or exciting about the Z5. It's a cut down Z6 hit indeed with the cripple hammer for video. FWIW, I have absolutely zero interest in the RP either. Never have, never will. I just think it's a better deal at the current $800 price. I recommended it to a dude that missed his 5D2. Nothing ironic about that. Personally, I hope Nikon don't screw up the Z6S but from the moniker and the rumors it sounds like a minor incremental update to Z6, which is kind of late to the game in comparison to what Canon & Sony are releasing.
  13. Only thing funny is you chasing me around this site with the failed intent of proving me wrong at every corner. I recommended the RP the other day to an amateur on a tight budget that missed his Canon 5D2. Furthermore, the RP came out in 2018, is below the magic 1 grand price and is fully compatible with EF-S lenses in which it shares the same crop factor. It's in my opinion a better value than the $1500-$2100 Z5 kit. At that price range a Z6/A73 would seem to be better suited for hybrid shooting. The XT3 as great of a camera as it is, isn't FF anything, it belongs in a separate category IMO. Regardless, my main point was that Nikon needs to seriously up its ante and innovate and not go backwards if it wants to be taken seriously in what is already a battle of the titans in between Canon & Sony.
  14. Or add an Atomos if you absolutely need redundancy on a paid shoot..
  15. It isn’t about being a gear snob but rather pushing things forward rather than backwards. 1.7x crop in 2020 is a joke and hence you can’t even consider that a real FF-category camera. It’s a FF stills, worse than APS-C vidéo hybrid. I’m all for pushing the price down but not at the expense of crippling features. Again the Z5 at $1500 naked, $1800-$2100 with the crappy zoom kits isn’t by any means a bargain in my book. This camera is DOA as far as I’m concerned and there is nothing snobbish about that as I consider cheaper cameras to be of better value.
  16. lol.. I thought that was a photoshop but it’s real! LMAO https://www.smallrig.com/blog/no-more-concerns-about-the-overheating-of-canon-r5/
  17. Sorry but I don’t share your enthusiasm. Competing on the bottom segment against a 5 year old crap camera like the A72 is certainly not an achievement. The EOS RP can currently be purchased on blowout price for under $800. Now that’s a steal in that particular segment. At $1400 the Z5 isn’t a cheap camera. For $400 more you can get an A73 with no crop 4K and log. I just don’t see the Z5 making an impact in 2020 with those specs and price point. Furthermore, Nikon who is already severely lagging behind its competition in sales really needs more innovative products than a cut down Z6 at entry level and a minor updated Z6S on the high end If they wanna remain relevant and afloat.
  18. FWIW manual focus is a real chore on Fuji lenses. Fly by wire lens design makes it near impossible to get consistent rack pulls. Not to mention there is nothing more erratic and unpredictable than a toddler. That said congratulations and let us know how that all works out for ya!
  19. All these rumors sound about right.. You guys outta know by now Sony will put the cripple hammer in key areas on this camera.
  20. I know all that but cmon A72 came out in 2015, EOS RP in 2018... you gotta laugh at Nikon’s horrendous release timing.. time and time again. At least make an official Z6S announcement. It’s late 2020, Go big or go home..
  21. So just when Canon & Sony are finally going out guns blazing with top video specs... Nikon decides to go full reverse with 1.7x crop and still no log or 10-bit?
  22. Yes I am sure of this. RP automatically crops the sensor to 1.6x both in stills & video when EF-S lenses are mounted. The Canon EF/RF adapter is hassle free, much more so than third party focal reducers & adapters as the AF and lens communication is flawless.
  23. It’s not unusual to own several lenses you know.. kinda the point of an interchangeable lens system. A lot of EOS R/RP users might have some fast EF/RF primes for double duty (35mm/50mm) and an EF-S zoom like the Sigma 18-35 for 4K crop. Again my recommendation of the RP is because OP said he misses the full frame look of his 5D2 and he’s on a tight budget. Recommending a Fuji or a Panny with focal reducers is IMO just as convoluted from my perspective if not more so, and you’re losing the best in class Canon AF which might come in very handy for shooting a kid like OP mentioned. Obviously if his budget was higher I’d recommend a Z6/A73/R6. If the topic was what is the best value APS-C camera on the market, my response would be XT2/XH1/XT3. Now let’s leave it at that and let dude chose for himself, all options have been clearly laid out..
  24. Not really. If you want “perfectly matched” lenses on the RP for 4K, just use EF-S lenses with the included adapter. EF-S have a 1.6x crop which perfectly matches the 4K 1.6x crop. And for EF/RF lenses, it isn’t that big of an issue either.. 35mm roughly converts to 50mm.. 50mm to 80mm etc. It is similar to Fuji where you buy a 23mm Fuji lens to get 35mm FoV.. a 35mm to get a 50mm etc. Same type of math you do with FF cine glass on S35 cams. Its no biggie and less of a hassle than using focal reducers IMO.
  25. Those are all valid arguments.. but again.. he is selling his crop sensor 4K Blackmagic.. and missing his FF FHD 5D2. Within that particular perspective and within his budget constraints, I was advising what would probably best suit him. You can push whatever camera you want, it doesn't negate my advice as you were previously insinuating by your 'canon die hard' comment..
