Justin Bacle reacted to Jim Chang in Super anamorphic project
You would need a real solid lens rail support for sure, for this type of experiment, check my new V2 clamp with rail support, :-)

Justin Bacle reacted to Vladimir in 40mm/0.9 prime and much more while shooting 2x anamorphic
u can doubt whatever u want. while i'm shooting
and u can sharper any lens u choose in cost of little loss on corners. In atached picture dreamy look is belong more to the nature of 55/1.2 itself instead of created by ana.

Justin Bacle reacted to Simon L Robinson in Canon XC10 4K camcorder
Film Convert have just released their profiles for the XC10, I really want to get my hands on this camera. An XC15 combined with mt a7s would make a killer combo for my needs.

Justin Bacle reacted to no_connection in RAW vs 10bit vs 8bit
The problem isn't as much 8bit vs 10bit I think but the effort put into compressing the data. Good compression takes a crapload of processing power to do, while bad just breeze through at realtime speed.
If you have not, play around with Handbrake and change only the slider for compression efficiency vs encoding speed. It's under optimise video.
Even at unlimited bitrade you will notice degradation in quality unless you add some effort to the compression work.
Also proper dither made for the compression setting meaning you make the entire chain optimized makes a good difference.

Justin Bacle got a reaction from Ricardo Constantino in OMG I GOT A 5D3!!! ??? - Magic Lantern raw best practices 2016 *ALSO* Try Resolve - its free!
1. The m4/3 mount is way better IMO to adapt many lenses
2. Magic Lantern is not that reliable, I would not use it for sensitive work were you just "need to get the shot" But you won't shoot raw anyway in that case.
So that's a couple of reasons, but they are not that relevant depending on what you do I guess :D
I just ordered a KB 64Gb 1066x, I have to say, it is way more reliable than my Lexar card ! (but My lexar must be a very bad unit :s)

ELMOSCOPE II - 2x STRETCH - WITH CUSTOM CLAMP
Photos of this lens - https://www.flickr.com/photos/ferradans/albums/72157671771429074
The Elmoscope II is a top notch projection lens. It has 2x stretch and focuses down to 1.5m. The strong stretch factor delivers the famous anamorphic bokeh, and the simple coatings produce yellow-orange warm flares. It works perfectly for shooting 4:3, as the GH4 Anamorphic Mode, or MagicLantern RAW on Canon cameras. Or by cropping the sides of 16:9 footage.
It really shines when attached to a single focus solution (Rectilux or Rangefinder), so you can keep your taking lens and anamorphic set to infinity and do all the focusing on Rectilux or Rangefinder. If not, you'll have to deal with double focus, meaning focusing the anamorphic and the taking lens at the same distance in order to produce a sharp image.
The last photo shows a side by side comparison of both the Elmo II and the Kowa B&H, one of the most desired anamorphic adapters. Many people claim these two are identical, but the Elmo II tends to go for a much lower price while the Kowa fetches around $900 to $1000.
This Elmoscope II is in great shape, with a smooth focus ring and glass in perfect condition. It comes with the original front cap as well as a custom made clamp for support (it has a 1/4" screw for attaching to your camera rig) that lets you set alignment for good instead of realigning every time you switch taking lenses.
PRICE: USD 560 (shipped)

PANASONIC LA7200 - 1.33x STRETCH - WITH CUSTOM FILTER HOLDER (95mm)
Photos of the lens - https://www.flickr.com/photos/ferradans/albums/72157671779697223The
The Panasonic LA7200 is a great anamorphic adapter for starters and for those looking for extreme sci-fi flares and not much work in post.
Stretch is 1.33x, which means any camera shooting 16:9 (1080p or 2160p) will output perfect Cinemascope footage for post, without the need for cropping anything out.
The strong aspects of this lens are how wide you can go (around 28mm on full frame with no vignetting), the futuristic blue streak flares, and the quick and easy setup. It features 72mm threads at the back, so it can easily connect to any lens without the need for additional gear.
Being a fixed focus adapter - it doesn't have a focus ring - you adjust focus using your taking lens, as you would normally without the adapter. Performance isn't great at fast apertures, but sharpens up nicely around f/4.
Glass is in pristine condition, no scratches, dust or fungus. Comes with both front and rear caps as well as the original pouch. This one comes with a custom-made filter holder and 95mm threads for attaching diopters and step rings for other filters.
You can read a detailed review of this lens at my blog!

PANASONIC LA7200 - 1.33x STRETCH - WITH ORIGINAL BOX
Photos of the lens - https://www.flickr.com/photos/ferradans/albums/72157675188015976
Same as above, minus the filter holder. This one comes with the original box.
Glass in perfect shape, body with no scuffs, both front and rear caps, original pouch.
The original locking screw was lost and replaced with a different one (can be seen in photos). Works just as well.
PRICE: USD 745 (shipped)

Justin Bacle reacted to Bold in 'This' Look .. (Anamorphic)
The Helios I used in the video is just a plain 44 (not 44-2 or 44m) with a 13-blade clickless aperture. I don't think there are major optical differences, but I don't know enough about them to say with certainty, Soviet lenses are notorious for manufacture/design variations depending on year and factory of origin, Early 44 versions have the gold coating, I believe the 44-2 and 44m all have purple coatings? There is plenty of info out there on the Helios 44 line of lenses, maybe someone reading this knows of a URL that explains all the differences?

Justin Bacle got a reaction from Dr. Verbel' in 35NAP 2-3M (mod) – precision, light streaks, bokeh
I got the front element off yesterday but the back ring still wont unscrew. I did put even more WD-40 (because YOLO!) hopping for the best.
(the front rign was very tight and difficult to unscrew, which makes me think that the adapter I got was in pretty bad shape :s)

Justin Bacle reacted to Mattias Burling in OMG I GOT A 5D3!!! ??? - Magic Lantern raw best practices 2016 *ALSO* Try Resolve - its free!
Yes Ive used them side by side. Ino the 5D is a 12stop camera which puts it bellow the BMDs and even the d750. Colors, RS, etc is another subject. Im just talking about DR.

Justin Bacle reacted to JazzBox in $5700 what canon camera do I buy?
I would buy the C100 MkII: it is a complete system with ND filter, audio inputs, good log codec etc...

Justin Bacle reacted to Dr. Verbel' in 35NAP 2-3M (mod) – precision, light streaks, bokeh
Caution! WD-40 may ingrained between the cemented lenses... on the pic died lens from another Rectimascop 80/2x. It is not a pity, because she was so dead from fungus. But the possibility may be after WD-40. Maybe yes, maybe no...

Awesome!! We're going to see affordable cine zooms soon from Samyang?? I'd love to have a Rokinon version of the Fujinon 19-90mm T2.9 but at a price I could actually afford!!

This I haven't experienced. Imo the 5D has one stop less in DR. Colors are even, its down to taste.

Justin Bacle reacted to Caleb Genheimer in 'This' Look .. (Anamorphic)
Consider the Samsung NX1. Ignoring all the crap about it being discontinued, it's a great camera and always will be. The color is pleasing, and the 4K provides lots of information to work with when craving an image. Add to that the recent support via FilmConvert, and I think it might have a lot of what you're looking for.

Justin Bacle got a reaction from Mat Mayer in Will this iMac be good enough for 4K video editing?
Editing FullHD 1080p H264 AVCHD with a Color Correction LUT and a Grading LUT (on premiere CC) on my i7 4790k with 16Gigs of ram is not pleasant.
So I'm pretty sure it'll lag quite a bit more if you don't transcode it :s
