Parker got a reaction from Saddam in Samsung NX1 - Post Your Latest Video
Here's a project I just finished shooting. I tried playing around with some different settings than I've used in the past, and I'm pretty pleased with how the color came out in a lot of the shots. The whole thing was shot on a bitrate hacked NX1, almost entirely in 120p, with the NX-L speedbooster and Rokinon 50mm T1.5 used for most shots, though there are a few shots with the Roki 85 and Sigma 18-35 as well. All the gimbal shots were the NX500 with a Rokinon 12mm on a Zhiyun Crane.

Ricardo is always posting such gorgeous framegrabs in this thread, so I wanted to give his settings a try for myself on my latest project... I'm really liking the way these are looking. (Graded with DeLuts and filmconvert)

If the paying job is a wedding, I think the Mavic will be more than fine. If the paying job is a Netflix show, well maybe not. Although I see plenty of last-gen 2/3" sensor drone footage on reality TV. It looks fine. The Blue House guy's mavic footage looks a million times better.

    Last post!
The problem ain't the Mavic, Mavic so small and capable is just amazing, the "problem" (not for DJI!) is product placement and net profit.
If Mavic had the Phantom 4 Pro camera, it would be 98% of their sales. Now they have the Mavic Pro, the Phantom Advance, the Phantom Pro and the series of their Inspire's and more advanced cameras. Mavic here is in back order since Xmas(around there, maybe before?), there was a bunch sold before then and no more Mavic's.
Also, who is competing with DJI? They are very kind to give as Mavic and a 1" camera to their Phantom series (again, with the same camera, no one would buy Phantom!).
@Parker For weddings Mavic is just great, one of my business partners has ordered one since November (for that reason), and I consider buying the Phantom 4 Pro because it is possible to buy one in this country (!) and is more appropriate for my line of work (corporation, low budget short films, documentary series etc).

I used your settings today, been getting a little bit bored by my regular ones and wanted to try something different for the bridal shoot I shot today, awesome look right out of camera! My previous settings were very hard to match between my NX1 and NX500, so hopefully it'll be nice in post that I shot them both with consistent settings across the board today. Thanks for sharing!

@Juxx989 Hey! So far I think my favourite is Vivid with -1 saturation and -2 contrast, along with 0.98 Green and Blue, sharpness at -10. If I'm in need of more dynamic range I switch to Gamma DR with -5 contrast and +1 saturation. I don't think that 0.95 on green is good as it makes skin too red and also makes whites look red too.  I've shot some side by side footage with my Fujifilm X-T2. Will be posting over the weekend

I mean you can see what right what it does... Raises your blacks/shadows in camera, so you can expose more for highlights and still maintain more shadow detail than you otherwise would with a lower black level. Granted I've never tested the benefit of shooting in camera and just raising shadows a touch in post, but I always shoot with mine between 7 and 15, I think it makes a pretty big difference.

I have and really like this one: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/687341-REG/Oben_TT_100_TT_100_Table_Top_Tripod.html
I use it without the ball head, which is awesome as well, but it's sturdy, all metal, and fits right inside the zhiyun case no problem.

@SMGJohn @Kisaha thanks guys! I used the tried-and-true Normal gamma, saturation -4, sharpness -10, contrast -3, master black level at 15, which are still my favorite settings I've ever tried. It gives the footage a really sweet look, even right out-of-camera and before grading, though this video is probably  one of my most heavily colored projects.
Most of this was graded with DeLuts, though I do remember playing around with some of the RED gamma profiles in filmconvert. Lenses, mostly used sigma 18-35 and Rokinon 12mm and 85mm, though some of the really dreamy shots were with the Tokina-Anginaux 28-70 f/2.6-2.8.
The timelapses were actually shot with the 16-50pz lens.

@Parker Excellent! Seem like its own film stock. Do you care to elaborate a bit (or preferably, a lot!).
The NX500 is so small, with the same NX1 sensor, that is a complete steal (if you own NX lenses anyway). I have the same exact use as Parker does, also a tiny silly Manfrotto tripod that fits even into my regular bag pack, or at the top of my camera bag (a big camera bag, not a huge one though) and I always carry it with me, as a B cam combo, or back up combo. I also have a small rig with a matte box and rails and stuff, recently I just used it as a B cam for interviews on a serious documentary shooting (I was doing the sound, and I joked with the DP, which of course we work together since the beginning of time, that I could pass the NX500 as a second cam and no one would even comment on it, and I did! Actually I saw the finished product and the NX500 is more in the interviews than the JVC LS300, but the JVC with its 4:2:2 broadcast ready codec performed slightly better in Resolve.)

Nice video Parker, did you grade or use in-camera colour profiles? I got to ask cause I seen some insane results from those colour profiles from my own use and other peoples results.

This is exactly how I use my NX500, the small, compact size and silent shutter make it an awesome stills camera, very easy to put on a small travel tripod and just shoot away on location. It is also my main vacation/walkaround stills camera for the same reason. The dynamic range of this camera is truly awesome; as long as you can protect the highlights, at low ISO's, the shadows can be raised 100% in Lightroom with no visible noise of any kind.
In this video here, one of my NX500 timelapses starts at 3:52, and there are two more starting at 5:08.

Yep, same exact thing happened to mine, too. Better stuck wide-open than closed down, I guess. Apparently it is a pretty easy fix to open them up and repair though, though I have yet to do so, a quick google reveals lots of instructions.

The hololens is super cool, we have one at work, but honestly it was a little disappointing the first time I played with it; the "window" of holograms that you get to see projected in front of you is just quite small, I'd say maybe a 10 or 20%-sized box of your vision? I don't know, it's certainly not as cool as the promotional material seems to indicate though. Yes you can plan Minecraft on your kitchen tabletop or whatever, but still, only in that tiny box. It is pretty neat how it literally looks like a hologram floating in front of you though. The resolution isn't amazing yet either, so I'm not sure how great the current headset would be for actual editing, needing high-res, etc.
As far as an immersive, futuristic experience, I was much more impressed by the HTC Vive, which is only $800 compared to $3,000 for the Hololens. Either way, it'll be very interesting to see what kind of tech and gadgets comes out of this segment as it matures. Just imagine the shenanigans the next generation of kids is going to get caught doing by their parents!

Thats a real let down isn't it? As you say, all the ones I've seen seem to operate panels no problem but no consolation.
Its not just the batteries either, the chargers can sting a bit price wise as well.
Cheapest way in that I've seen are the batteries where you get the direct tap charger included. Though whether I'd budget for a fire extinguisher to go with it is another matter!

Don't underestimate the 16-50 power zoom lens. Yes, it's slow, 3.5-5.6 I think, but it's a super cheap, tiny, ultra compact and stabilized 24-70 equivalent, and the autofocus is really quite good. I actually done notice much of a difference between it and my S lens as far as autofocus speed goes. If I'm not flying a super wide prime on my gimbal, the humble little 16-50 pz is my favorite lens to use. I also like keeping it on my NX500 for walkaround stills purposes, like on vacation, etc.
I have the 30mm too and basically never, ever use it. Ricardo stated it perfectly above, that has been my exact experience with it as well.

Parker reacted to mercer in 5D3 ML Raw Screen Grabs
So as some already know, I recently purchased a 5D3 primarily to shoot Magic Lantern Raw. Well this week I started my first short film with it. It was definitely a learning experience but I really don't know of any camera where I would have achieved such pleasing images. I also purchased the Canon 24-70mm f/4 lens and I am consistently blown away by what a great lens it is and the OIS is so damn good, even at 70mm, that the majority of my short, thus far, has been shot handheld.
With the recent 4K Raw developments, I figured I would post some pros and cons in case somebody else is looking to pick one up.
Well the first pro is that shooting Raw could not be simpler with it. Set up Raw histogram with the overexposure hint and when it shows your color channels are starting to clip or the word "over" appears on the histogram, then just dial back your exposure a touch.
Another pro is that there are a bunch of people on this forum still shooting with the 5D3 and everybody is helpful. If you have a problem about any aspect of the process or workflow, there are plenty of other ML shooters around here that go out of their way to answer even the stupidest of my questions... not nearly as daunting as the ML forum.
Now a couple cons... you need a bunch of cards... or a computer and hard drive to offload your footage... 12 minutes on a 64GB cards gets filled quickly. Even with 3 cards, and trying to be conservative with my shots and shot ratios, I still ran out of space 3/4 of the way through my second day of shooting.
Converting the footage is a bit tedious. The RawMagic route of converting the MLV files to CDNG is fairly fast but then you still have to process the footage through Resolve or After Effects before really seeing what you have. I really like the MLRawViewer program, but although you get to preview your footage, the conversion is slow and after I updated my Mac to Sierra, the version I have does not work with it, but I believe there is a newer version,  so hopefully it will work then.
I guess that's about it for now, so I'll leave you with a couple graded screen grabs, from a couple shots I briefly messed around with yesterday...
