  1. Thank you, Mark! Now German Schlager music counts on you as a loyal fan! 🙂 But beware, our classy song is rather in the tradition of the french "Chanson" and is not typical for the average modern Schlager. Thanks you very much guys for your kind comments! I would love it, if people would share and discuss more of their work, exercises and tests. It would still get technical enough for the nerds among the Eoshd fans.:) By the way, I almost forgot to mention, the other lens on the S1 was the beautiful Tokina 70-210 f3.5, a low price one touch push zoom, with super light weight, high resolving and with splendid character wide open, as you can see at 2.29min, where Stella, our female lead and singer, is pointing the gun to the outside of the frame from left to right. Merry Christmas again, dear friends! cheers
  2. Hallo dear friends, I wish you all happy holidays! This is a music video from a winter short we did this summer, which I dped with a friend of mine. A charming journey of roughed up singer Stella who is rushing through the city on Christmas eve, with Schmalz and Pathos of German Schlager music. I wish you all a peaceful time. It is family and friends we find most comfort in. But also some campy fun and vintage lenses in these harsh times. Lens used with my S1 is a beautiful and cheap Unitor (Soligor, Hanimex) 35-70 2.5-3.5. C300 performed with conventional Walimex lenses. Love from Germany. Stay save, dear friends! best, Marty

So, here goes a Musikvideo to our shortfilm we shot this summer, Christmas in summertime:) I was DP with a friend of mine. Additionally I did the lights and my buddy will hopefully exchange the favour in doing a splendid edit. Nothing interesting about lensing in this video, besides one lens I had mentioned before and which Andrew bought afterwards as well. We filmed with C300II and Walimex lenses and my S1 with the beautiful Unitor 35-70 2.5-3.5. Really love this lens only thing to dislike is the vari aperture. Soe even filming in 3.5 it will change on the long end. S1 was running the slim 10bit h265 codec with 420 colour and 75mbit. The lens is a real keeper. Used in FF and APSC crop. It has nice resolution and colour and a soft quality to it, very nice mechanically. It was pretty high regarded back then under the labe of Soligor. You can find them also under the Hanimex and other labels. So here we go and Merry Christmas, dear friends!

@mercer Happy holidays too, dear Glenn and everybody! Black magic micro. You are one brave man.:) A perfect setup for this is tricky and pretty expensive. The original Pocket has risen in price again, running around 500USD, the Micro for much more. Would love to see your gem coupled with some of your c-mount lens treasures!
  5. I second that. The S1 with the Vlog update has an image too good to believe. No mushyness at all. Still gooling over the S1H for the OPLF filter. Maybe I should be goolin over some filming ideas instead and film something worthwhile with my S1. Seriously I feel ashamed not using this or any camera much these days. S1 is a cinema image quality powerhouse.
  6. I love 2x zooms. Change in focal length opening the realm of a different state of mind and being. Just two states of 35 and 70 are good enough to always be connected to its implicite message: change of approach, view and perspective. I love to study films which are classy but not hyperpopular. Gives me more control about not being influenced by the conclusions of others or what others might see in it. Instead of studying the current masters I would study their masters or study nonmasters or other fields of art or other genres and types of film and filmlength or sujet. Like Hitch said something like, if they go wide I go tight, if they go tight I go wide. Same with studying the arts in a way but not by principle. You know what I mean.:)
  7. Nice thumbnail.:) @Matins 2 Daguerreotype, right. Pristine film look would be possible with a BMPCC as the cheapest option, in 4K one could try a used G9 in HLG with the 10bit update for 600 or 700usd. I already got a run for my money years ago filming 8bit HD, in natural profile and 100mbit with the GH5, because the 10bit codec was still new for Davinci Resolve :) Mission accomplished:) For even mored dependable results use a PMW F3 with its external 10bit output. They gotten more expensive now due to their good rep. Would love to get my hands on a F5 or shoot something meaningful with my F3 first. :)
  8. @JordanWright No, don´t finish this thread. Always beautiful to see that Tokina in action. I have it in Nikon mount and it still waits to be used much more. Such a gem!
  9. @herein2020 great job on that shitty lights footage, nice grade! It looks like it was from an italian cinema masterpiece. Compliments to you but the camera as well. The S1, S1H, S5 cameras are image quality wonders in the form factor of a prosumer camera. Hard to believe my eyes whenever I grade the footage coming from my S1.
  10. Loved it. Well done! Thank you for sharing!
  11. High profile stuff. Hard for me to estimate the raw quality of the image. But looks good. Now, back to the F3, hopefully some of us get to put it to good use. Cannot wait to get a good deal on a used HD BMVA and put my Tokina 28-70 2.6 on it and get that baby rollin!
  12. Once S1H gains momentum at filmschools, it will produce more and more impressive films. Today a friend of mine entered the realm of Varicam colour science and massive cinema image quality with the S1H. I was close to buy one myself, because I was going to sell my S1 due to the paid VLog update and the 10bit 4K60p of the S5. Tell you what, the VLog 10bit puts the S1 way ahead of a C300II image wise, no contest at all! If S5 will continues to sell well, and if Panasonic keeps their model philosophy in logic and neat order, they will grow and give Sony a good run for the money. My friend owns a GH5 and films with Arri at his school. If the S1H convinces him for his project, he is the usual film school image connoiseur, it will be on a whole lot of film school shoots. Film school in Germany means some free tickets for the large German film festivals as Berlinale and others. The S line I think will rock the scene. I hope I can be part of it.:)
  13. Hopefully it never will. I find it hyper flimsy! It is the worst on off switch I ever had on a camera. Missing a LOT more? What do you mean other than internal 10bit or 422/444? :) I haven´t found beautiful F5 footage on the web. Have not come around to shoot with one neither. F3 look convinced me right away. When I bought the cam I found some internal 8bit SLOG footage on the cards. It already gave me an hint how beautiful the image is from this camera. It is the cheaper C300MK1 and better HD cinema cam than the C300II when coupled with an external recorder. Footage on vimeo and especially latest youtube posts show the cinematic beauty of this beauty.
  14. G6 just does not start anymore. It was disappointed in delivering such a beautiful image with great gradeable colours, but to be bothered by the tiny codec. :) Codec does well in midtones, but in lowlight shadows are artefacts heaven. Wrong kinda heaven of course. I loved the colour and organic feel of the footage, but only after grading. It took me months of builing my G6 Lut. It has evolved into my general lut for lumix cameras. So I owe a lot to that camera. I still have a G7, which has the perfect HD image to my eyes but the same tiny codec. GX85 in HD is subpar compared to these cameras, though 4K with it is beautiful. Now, where were we at? :) The HD 100mbit on the GH4 might just be the coolest thing one can get for 300bucks. Upscaling it to 4K should do. Wondering if it has the same poetic Gestalt as the image coming from the G6. By the way, the 8bit 100mbit HD from the GH5 is stellar, 10bit no contest. But everyone knows that. GH4 10bit hack or even better update would be awesome. The latter, now that would be some Panasonic love!
  15. @IronFilm I always keep checking new F3 footage on youtube, rather than filming with my own one.:) A 2K hack would indeed be really something. Only thing this cam would be missing. How would one approach that? F5 hack style? One design flaw though is the on off switch. On my cam, which is almost like new, it is very easy to push either side. Would like to know if anyone of this forum has the same kinda feeling about danger of switching the cam off on accicent during an important shoot. For our enjoyment, awesome image quality. Mojo time! 🙂
  16. G6 and F3, we both share the same love for a digital image. My G6 stopped working. The HD image out of it was some of the most organic footage, when graded, only lessend by the puny codec, which broke apart in lower light. I imagine the 50mbit codec of the GH3 already works wonders compared to it. Loved the form factor with its perfect size, the light weight, even the unobstusive boring design. Function and ergo was perfect. One of my dearest cams. I dig a great HD image. I imagine the 100mbit HD of the GH4 is the best HD image 300 bucks can buy, congrats to your purchase! @IronFilm The 200mbit ALL Intra flavour shouldnt even be necessary.
  17. Favorite thread in a while! Thank you @Neumann Films I rembember your and your friends´ batman shortfilm days. Really gave a lot of people inspiration to start filmmaking, if not as a professional carrer then as a redemption for body, heart and soul!
  18. For cinema quality S1 with update or S1H with that tasty OPLF. No mudd but fine grain at higher isos. Massive latitude for underexposure, which is best in class, much better at underexposure than Pocket6K with Braw. Sony makes images muddy at higher isos. Rolling shutter is awesome though. For a video camera and as a hybrid or even cinema camera the S series impresses. A 1900 usd Lumix S5 blows a C300II out of the water imagewise, it is not even fair to put them in the same contest. Was grading underexposed C300ii 10bit material in UDH and Cine 4K the last week, UHD looking like mushy HD with temporal noise reduction, C4K with big pixel blocks in the shadows. Colours kept impressively intact though, I must admit.
  19. That´s right @SnowfunExternal recorder could help, as it did with the processing of the original A7s, not only giving it 4K but also being free of the strong processing and artefacts. S1 and S5 on the other hand are very impressive with their internal codecs and processing, S1H even moreso having sharpness -1 for Vlog and additionally without pretty much any moire due to its OPLF filter.
  20. Holding and filming with the S1 is a joy. VLog and 10bit codecs are amazing. Latitude too. In a test on slashcam it wipes the floor with the A7s, which has mushyness creeping in at higher ISO and lowlight, whereas S1 keeps colour, grain and resolution on a classleading level, even surpassing Canon R5 in at the extremes of underexpure. I still see oversaturation in the reds and blues when underexposed shots are pushed too much in post. But easily fixed with a bit of desaturation of the two colours before pushing exposure in post. I cannot wait to film some sufficient images with this beauty. A7siii would have my interest if without the mushyness at lower light or at underexposure. Rolling shutter is pretty phenomenal. But the image of the S1, S5, S1H seems to be even more impressive.
  21. Does the S5 have an extra S35 mode besides the APS-C? S1 only offer APS-C besides the full readout in the 4K modes. S35 on the S1H is a bit larger than 1:1 readout which the APS-C is.
  22. You should be able to zoom in with your recorder, right? Atomos 5 or 7 inch recorder should do the job well.
  23. Lovely, now put some Zeiss Tevidons to use with it and show off this beauty with some tasty 60fps CDNG Raw!:) Is the HDMI a full size port? BMMCC is one of the vintage cameras like the Sony F3 which have risen in prices again over the last months. There is some mojo to them as many have stated before on this forum. I personally would have loved a 60p variante of the BMCC 2.5K!
  24. Can that be true! Awesome but still some time to wait. Panasonic reads eoshd. If they would put that in the headlines the S1 will sell better again I am sure. The hefty pro body with full HDMI and unlimited running time, worth the extra squids over the S5. I purchased the Vlog update last week and bang, Panasonic shows me some love!:) Further Updates for LUMIX S1 in the First Half of 2021 To meet the demands of users, the LUMIX S1 will continue to evolve. With firmware 2.0, the user will be able to manually switch the Dual Native ISO settings. As well as V-Log recording, further enhancements will be available with the purchase of DMW-SFU26 , including an anamorphic mode and timecode function, in addition to 5.9K/C4K and 4K60/50p 4:2:0 10bit internal video recording and 5.9K/4K/Anamorphic (4:3) 3.5K 12-bit RAW video data recording over HDMI on an Atomos Ninja V.7 Now, if Blackmagic gives us some tasty Braw output to their recorder for the S series, that would be beautiful!
