  1. BMMCC @kye I have not found footage from the Sigma yet that i can i say i liked. I coupled my Lumix S1 with a 10mm Tevidon in Hd pixel mode. That could be my Bmpcc. Just need the right adapter without wiggling. Got a Bmmcc coming its way, proving gas is dumb and never ending.:) Back to topic.:) A fully rigged Amira is a heavy beast already despite the fact that they call it a perfectly balanced shoulder camera. Alexa is not bargain on your shoulder for sure.
  2. Still, i just won an auction for a tasty bmmcc with a oplf/ir-cut filter, cage, npf battery adapter and hdmi support. Guess it will be raw camera porn, which means me lookin at this beauty rather than having the camera look at @webrunner5 The people from slashcam already tested prores via filmic app. It still has all the sharpening and processing, a bit more resolution due to using a hair more of the sensor. So the same image like the ifon12.
  3. Hey Marcio, could have been Andrews own 88mbit hack. I can still download it here from Andrews site: https://www.eoshd.com/gh2-patch-vault/
  4. I shot some BTS photos, while on set as a DIT. Used my GX85, which has become my favorite digital camera body ever since, though GF1 shooting experience is still dear to my heart. Shot with Fuji 12.5 and Angie 75mm both s16 lenses. That Angie has F2.5 but an estimated TStopf of 4 or 4.5. That dirt is giving it some lovely magic and is swallowing a whole lot of light. I was replicating parts of my 135 film days (36x24mm film:) and not checking images all time after a I pressed the shutter. I also shot some portraits with a tungsten theater spot bounced on a dirty Styro. Lovely as heck these on light sources with a neat falloff. There would be a lot of stories to be told about the places and people we shoot films with or we photograph. A lot of things to be shared and cherished other than these dull spec lists and AF admiration videos. I hope to share some photos soon and I will insist that the GX85 with a C-mount lens is a perfect friend for 35mm film fans. Right now I am busy and exhausted with obligations that take up a lot of time. cheers and take care for now, Marty
  5. Dear Andrew, this site has been very dear to me and still is to this day. Thank you for realising such a great project. I second @Marcio Kabke Pinheiro s statement, the joy of creating and the joy of learning techniques are exiting to experience. When I started reading around 2012 and became a member 2015, this site was full of energy and optimism. Maybe so, because you were too, Andrew. Pretty sure. It is an achievement of large scale what you have achieved. I think, people are a bit busy right now with hardships of life. But why not give this exiting blog and forum the time to recreate and rest. No need to close doors. Let us all just regain powers and then get involved into discussion again, exchange and support for one and another. I would have loved to post more the last months. I am just too exhausted with life right now and I know I´m not alone. The last two years have been a rough time to many of us. Just need a bit of rest to contribute more. I have plenty cool stuff to share. Sony F3 will be used for a shorty this November, also some cool behind the scene photos from a horror short film, for which I was DIT this summer. Fun stories and happy lensing with @mercers 12.5mm Fujinon lens legend and an Angenieux 75mm S16 lens. We all might need a bit of rest I think. No generic spec list posts of Canon R3 or Sony will change that. A bit of a nap and a bit of a real life happy chat will bring us all back on track, after a while. That´s an alliteration just for you, dear Andrew and forum readers.:) I would love EOSHD to maintain. My gratitude, to you, dear Andrew. Best wishes and a digital hug, Marty
  6. I always wondered why they cannot build a "full frame" digi with lens, which is as narrow as a compact film photocamera. Olympus Twin, two lens in on, 35mm and 70mm, narrow, though with a stop or two in light loss between the two focal lengths.
  7. Tasty thread. Will have to read it once I got a bit more time. For now, a bit of a recommendation. I have a few interesting photocams and I love my Olympus 35 RC, my favorite filmcamera I think. Also, I enjoy the Ricoh 500G, which has a cool feature of double exposure. Both are rangefinder cameras with fixed lenses. The Olympus is a gem to hold and touch, a minimalistic design masterpiece. The Ricoh is a joy because of its price, which it's worth many dozen times. Both with F2.8 and fun handling. Both are a bit blocky in hand but somehow feel so right. I had the Oly 35SP, which is supposed to have a lengendary lens. Unfortunately I never enjoyed it much. Ricoh and Oly are both full manual operation. My other dear favorite is the Yashica Elektro 35CC, with a fantastic 35mm 1.8 lens. What a beauty! With film these gems are a pleasure, which is hard to beat. Scanner, well Pakons used to be dirt cheap on the bay. Now they go for astronomic prices. Super fast and robust handling of negatives. I love my Kodak RFS 2035 film scanner. CCD magic but only 2000dpi for a 135 (35x24mm) negative, which makes 6MPix. Using the cameras. In Berlin I have lost my enjoyment in analogue photography due to the Hipster Consumer attitude attached to this beautiful activity. Good thing, I started my passion about it in Berlin as well years. It depends on the people and the surroundings one is attached or accompanied by. So, happy company and shutter therapy! One more, there many great web1.0 with awesome and fun reads, not the clickbait copycat articles but labour of writing love and photo passion. Unfortunately Flickr is plagued with dull ads now, interrupting browsing and watching pleasure.
  8. Thanks, mate. Really, sometimes it´s hard to see the obvious! I thought of the F5 as a substitute for my F3 and FS700, for both of their purposes, corporate and "cinematic" projects as well. I find it surprising that until now I have never read about the highlight aliasing of the FS700 in internal HD. I was surprised to see such a strong case of it in my footage. It´s strong like from a Canon 7D in 720 50p mode. The web does not show much info or videos on it, except a very few posts on dvxuser. Indeed surprising. F3 has clean internal HD from my tiny practical experience with it. So I will use the F3 barebones for corporate and for the cinematic projects with the BMVA. Just sayin where I was coming from. So thanks for helping me out on getting my thougths into perspective. So that means, F55 and F5 do 444 in 4K? Tempting 🙂
  9. 600, wow! With RGB update? Pix E5 incluede? That would be insane! Mine has the update, which not only gives it 444 in 24p with 444 recorders but also full HD up to 60p in 10bit 422 over one 3G SDI connection to the Blackmagic VA. Thanks to Dave aka Ironfilm I went the BMVA route. Bought the camera a year ago but still have not filmed anything other than a minute outside of my kitchen. But I have had an obsession with it due to the images I saw on the web. @IronFilm I have the FS700 as well but the highlight aliasing made me unpleased about an otherwise really cool and practical camera. No matter what others say. Shooting sufficient internal HD would have been really cool for low end corporate stuff. Bringing the Shogun along for low end projects does not seem to me really adequate, rather overkill for little money and single operator jobs. Question: would you recommend a Sony F5 with the 4K update for 3000 with shoulderrig, handle and EVF? Or just be happy with the F3 internal for small corporate and rent bigger for other stuff? I think I answered my question already: get started with the F3 🙂 This week I asked a production if they want a big camera or if they just care about great image quality. They said the latter. So this weekend it's S1 only in the wild. F3 gotta be the came for personal projects I guess.
  10. No F3s on German Ebay at the moment. They get rare. Was thinkin of selling mine. But maybe I would regret. Have not filmed anything with it yet. I realize it´s one of the few affordable high quality HD cameras. FS700 is not due to the highlight aliasing in HD, which I had to experience during a commercial shoot a few weeks ago. With internal recording I consider it to be the better and cheaper C300 MK1.
  11. Above must be my favorite post of the year @kye Super effective in showing colour response and metric and relation of pleasing palette and response to exposure in comparison to "objective" colours such as of GH5. Thanks a lot!
  12. The OG Pocket is very appealing. They get rare and prices are rising though. I found a used one with cage and a Pana 14mm 2.5 for 300EU. I waited one day in order to think about it. It was of course sold to somebody else by then. The good deals are gone for sure, especially for the BMMCC. In the end the p4K is a good choice for s16 shooters and beyond, with higher framerates, Braw, S16 crop.
  13. Thanks. IBIS is good. GH5 level imho. I stabilized in Resolve which was helpful since I didnt bother to dial the right focal length in. I filmed with a 25-50 zoom, the beautiful Tokina, filmed at either 25 or 50mm, having 35mm dialed in I think. Post stabi in Resolve works pretty well when shot with a high shutter and when filmed sufficient enough. Now you will test yourself and enjoy some amazing treats this cam has to offer. Especially absence of noise reduction and mush at higher Isos.
  14. That´s a mini Varicam for 1000 GBP! That´s a steal! @Tim Sewell I am curious to test some primes with it. So far I have used my S1 with little cheapo zooms. The 35-70mm F4 Canon FD is indeed a little beauty. Mechanically it´s flawed. Lens alignment is shaky once the rubber pads inside get worn out. Here is some footage for location scouting with the kewl Tokina 25-50. Sun was very harsh. It was a beautiful summer day, to say it with other words.:) The mellow contrast of the Tokina gives the S1 image nice smoothnes. Anyway, this camera is fun. Hard to believe what kinda quality we get for around 1500EU if bought used. Grading is a bit too greenish. Was trying to built a greenish Lut I guess.:)
  15. This was a tasty read. I didnt even bother to make something to eat first in order to enjoy this article. I enjoyed it right away instead. Also a thing that sticks out about the S series from Panasonic is the practical absence of noise reduction at higher Isos. You won´t see any mushyness but fine grain. A7s3 does not offer that, but instead it shows mushyness at higher isos. I have been saying it for a while now, my S1 is a pocket Varicam. I sometimes enjoy filming in S35 mode just for the special feeling of having a cinema camera in my hands. S35 makes me realize it even more, that this is a true cinema beast. The choice of cameras in your article is aweseome, fun and fundamental! Now I hope I can do the image quality of my S1 justice instead of lusting for a Sigma FP.:)
  16. The design of the SLRs from back then is beautiful, so is the tactility. This new Nikon camera seems to only mimic that. I rather like a classy and somewhat classic design like from the Lumix GF1 than a camera which is mimicing the old. The GF1 is for photography, with 720p/1080i, all auto video. It´s from 2009, so it´s old in digital terms. It is the camera body i enjoyed the most for photography. Straightforward camera, showing what it is and performing like what its design is promising. Little changes in design often change the overall experience, not always to the better. The spiritual successor, the GX1 almost looked the same but never got me to buy it despite its much better sensor. Instead I pretty much left digital photography as a leisure time acitivity and choose digital video instead with semiprofessional aspirations, starting with a Lumix G6. The Nikon Z won´t get me back into digital photography, my GX85 didnt, but maybe now a GX1 would.
  17. Your Sony PMW F3 looks like it has seen some good usuage. Sofore it deserves to be called by its full name!:) It looks like you have a tasty Nikon 28-70 2.8 on it. I think we depend on you to put some life back into our F3 thread. :) I start to feel I will sell my F3, as it is much heavier than a FS700. FS700 disappointed me though with very obvious aliasing in internal HD mode on my last gig. I have used it on two commercial shoots so far. F3 internal seems much better from what I have seen online. FS700 tests from back then didnt hint that direction and indicated rather flawless internal HD. @TomTheDP F35 sounds heavy as well:) Imagewise I find it fascinating. So keep em coming!:)
  18. Darn. Good game. England won, well deserved. Germany gave a nice performance too. Good thing I didnt have a coffee before. 🙂
  19. I would look sycophantly up in a dictionary. But maybe rather not. I don´t know who Matt Granger is. I leave it at that and won´t make suggestions anymore. Other youtube channels. I still admire some classy video essay channels, Tony Zhou, Cinema Tylor, Royal Ocean Film Society. I also enjoy channels on vintage photo cameras and other subjects. Just watched one on an Olympus XA3. There are also great contributions from people who don´t necessarily are in front of the camera that much, showing footage from vintage cameras such as old 2/3inch Varicams or F23 and so on, some CCD magic in 2021. Actually your reply creeped me out a bit. So I won´t comment on your youtube channel anymore, unless your anti-anti-stalking cops bring me some strawberry cake with some tasty coffee the next 5mins before the EURO soccer game between Germany and England. That will be more fun than googleing Matt Granger for now.
  20. Yeah, plus, our F3 thread needs more input. I just cannot get myself to be lugging around that heavy sister so I rather grab my S1 for filming fun.
  21. Depends, Andrew. Some suckers need to be told how it is. You dont. Still, you deserve to be told that above GH2 piece has astonishing colour besides involving compositions and choice of shots. And you deserve honest opinions. And after all, there are highly successful youtubers who are not part of a dull cam selling circus. I see you rather like the guy who did this video: What Makes This Song Great? Ep.104 Pink Floyd.
  22. I second above comment. There could still be short 3min videos for critizing or analyzing the state of things, short to the point, witty without bitterness. Rather than calling Undone a guru, just stayin to the fact, that the testing cirucs is a circus of silly beasts or whatever. 2 to 3min pieces, once every three monts and people would get the point across. I mean, after all consumerism is a terrifying with harms to enviroment, resources and labour conditions around the world, epecially where employees rights are weak. And, holy cow, Andrews 8bit colours from the GH2 look impressively good, better than most stuff from modern high end hybrids like A7s3 or S1H. Testament to the right shooter with the right equipment in the right state of mind.
  23. @amweber21 the 5inch BMVA 12G is not too hefty, with the benefit of SDI out to a set monitor for the director. Used prices are around 600USD.
  24. Gerald is a charming reviewer. I would love, if less people would get baited into the discourse of camera testers circus. Gerald does not represent that until now. He has been doing good work in his field of work, until now. It would awesome if we all would focus on contributing to great threads again, as we have been doing all these years. I would love a structure of the forum to bait us more into the filming section where people post their stuff but hardly get noticed for their work in that subforum of the main forum. Then click baiting would be a great thing. I would love more oldschool classic and classy articles like about the Canon dream lens. We never had a chance to see the trees in the beautiful photographs move their leaves in the winds, moving images. I think this forum could become THE major place for creative and TRUE nerd content again. Right now it is a bit calm on that side. The Gerald Undone piece is witty and right about the main points regarding the consumerism and camera hype machine but it is not on point about him, when he is presented like he was identifying himself as a "guru", which he never claimed he was. I too find it disgusting, when youtubers steal content from this forum and dont give back nor even cite the oritinal source such as was the case with the overheating problem of the R5. I think it is a major threat to original blog journalist and artists. We can go back to the roots of this forum, cool and involving stuff and not worry about the click baiters and content appropriators.
