Tim Sewell got a reaction from eatstoomuchjam in CinePrint 35
I was bored so I put together some A6600 S-Log-3 footage I had hanging around from earlier this year and graded it with the help of Tom Bolles's new CinePrint 35 powergrade. I'm definitely liking the colours and he's simplified the node tree somewhat, making it a lot easier to tweak.

Tim Sewell got a reaction from John Matthews in Why I'm not taking my S5ii on holiday.
I'm off to the Cambridge folk festival next week with my 15 yr old and I'm going to be shooting a mini-doc focusing on why people love this nearly 50yr old festival so much, ie I won't be risking trouble by filming the big acts etc - more aiming for lots of vox pops and street-style imagery.
After a lot of thought I'm just taking my A6600, a couple of my Super Taks - probably the 20mm and the 55mm, together with a straight adapter and a focal length reducer. To go with it and allow me to have some control I'll be adding a 12 inch tube light and a magnetic little RBG, a 14 inch collapsible 5-in-1 reflector/diffuser, 2 little wireless lavs and a VideoMic. All needs to fit comfortably in my mid-size messenger bag. I may take my knock-off cinesaddle as it can double as a pillow in my tent and something to sit on while watching bands!

Tim Sewell got a reaction from Emanuel in $ for glass... 1 or 20, as buyer, when aperture is not over the table... is THIS acceptable?
I have this lens and it's a perfectly serviceable general purpose piece of glass that has the benefit of being super small!

Funnily enough, only yesterday I picked up a piece of gear that you featured in a previous episode.
Not the camper van unfortunately but the cart.
Currently on special in Aldi for the bargain price of £44.99
So, thats the transportation sorted for the kinky amount of 135mm lenses I've acquired over the years.
Will need the camper van for transporting the therapy triggering number of 24 and 35mm lenses.

Tim Sewell got a reaction from mercer in Lumix and...Sony?
Both are true. Just from my own limited experience - my EF-S 17-55 2.8 has worked well via adapters/focal length reducers, with functioning AF, on every Sony body I've used (FS700, FS5, A7R1, A6600) but is terrible compared to the inexpensive Sony 24-105 f4 - literally worlds apart. So if AF is important, it generally has to be native.
Personally I only use it for 'fun' shooting and for anything intentional use my Super Takumars, but even for the 'fun' stuff I want AF I can rely on.

And PS, I'm not laughing at you, but laughing at the imaginary scenario where as a one man band hybrid shooter, I attempt to juggle 3x zero IBIS or AF cameras that weigh about 5x as much and cost about that also. If not more.
I also 'dismissed' anything from BM, the Sony Burano and the Alexa LF.

I didn’t dismiss it because it wasn’t even in the conversation.
It would be like, “OK, you were shopping around for a hot hatchback circa €15k on the used market, why didn’t you consider a lightly used €75k Porsche Cayenne?”
Pair of bare bones S5ii and a single under 1kg with lens S9 vs 3x rigged out Red Komodo?
No offense, but it would be an utter fucking nightmare! 😂

Tim Sewell reacted to BTM_Pix in Nikon Z6III is coming.. as mini Z8
In the UK you could use the cameras to make a feature length documentary about the stage managed decline of the NHS to while away the time it takes for the ambulance to actually arrive.

Just wait and see how much it cost to use an ambulance in the US, you get 4 Z6iii for one trip. LOL

There we go then... a £300+ rip off Britain surcharge.
The hard of thinking are currently out in force, seeking solutions from the very liars who sold them the current malaise... i.e. the Reform Party Brexiteers.
It'll be interesting to see what their Liz Truss school of economics does to prices if they ever get a sniff of real power.
By comparison how much is the Z8 in Japan and how much is a flight?

I've managed to obtain the full breakdown of this hidden socialist import duty racket that makes cameras so expensive here.
Its an absolute disgrace.

EVF doesn't "fix" it. However, it's broadly believed that having more points of contact between the camera and the shooter increases overall stability.
The comment above includes one of the other common methods of increasing stability - adding more/balanced weight to the camera system.
Combining one of these things is how run and gun news shooters managed to get their footage to look pretty good 40 years ago - big heavy shoulder-mounted cameras with an EVF.
There are other tricks you can try too, even with a smaller camera or no EVF - including getting a pretty thick string and attaching one side to a 1/4x20 screw. Screw it into the camera's tripod mount and let the other end dangle to the ground. Step on it and pull the string taut. Congrats, your footage is now a bit more stable. Though you may want to avoid this strategy on a professional shoot. Many clients might not be thrilled to have spent hundreds or thousands of dollars for somebody to show up with some string and about 60 cents in hardware store fasteners.
(It's saved me in a pinch before, but I'm also not a working professional)

To be fair, that guy could get great video out of a Box Brownie.

Tim Sewell got a reaction from IronFilm in Short film shoot tomoz
I only had to do the one room but yes - especially as I don't have stuff like speed rail etc and it was rather windy.
In fact, I was going to move on to blackout the back ground floor for the next sequence but by then it was just too windy so I had to black out inside and bounce my lights (shooting day for night) inside rather than having them outside.

There's a certain charm and thrill to a super low budget short film, that absolutely no large budget feature can match.
