Huh, just did a quick test of vivid, it certainly looks great out of camera.
I'm used to a "vivid" that has horrid colors and contrast cranked to 10.

I don't know, even with Vimeo compressing the file again, I think 1080p from 4K still looks better than both regular 1080p and straight 4K. But yes, the micro cinema camera looks great... Just wish it had an LCD. 

just got the A7Sii...overheated during a interview at 45min in 4k. fully charged battery lasted just as long.

Curious what peoples settings are for the NX1. I've been hearing some say they only shoot in Gamma C which surprises me. I know that Andrew's log solution is also a great one. This is the one that I have found personally excellent.

I don't know the math behind it, but from my experience transcoding is not going to give you more latitude or color info. If it does it is so tiny that it's not worth the extra effort. The benefit maybe creating files that are easier to work with in your NLE.

The one linked. It only works on G lenses of course. I use it with the Tokina 11-16.

I reckon that should share the same mount as the pre mirrorless Sony Alphas (A mount). As it has electronic contacts, I doubt you would get aperture control like you can with Nikon lenses.

It's much more pleasing to watch something thats not flat and gray, but full of beautiful colors and contrast. That is why I usually shoot with Gamma C, sometimes normal, but almost never with Gamma DR. I think this dynamic range hype (which EOSHD is full of) is mostly nonsense, as long as it leads to overall bland image.

On the big screen, I've found that lenses and grading make a far bigger difference in apparent resolving power than 4k. That's why Leica, Zeiss, etc demand such high prices.

Don't know about the Ninja but it does do a clean 1080p HDMI output.

This is NX1 firmware v1.4
First you need a card in the slot. For some strange reason.
Then you need to set HDMI to 1080p in the menu.
Then you need to press the disp. key to get rid of the icons.

Aside from the D810, best 1080p image money can buy. Great DR, very little RS, astounding low light, and amazing colors.

Thank you for pointing this out as it often gets ignored: if you switch the NX1 to HD res it's almost a global shutter cam.
When Cinema5d compared shutter speeds in the following chart they had the nerve to show the NX in UHD mode only on the far right - indicating it's the clear loser, while the A7R2 is given its HD crop speed, and the Amira winning even though it's only 2k. In HD the NX would be to the left of the chart. There is a lot of bias against this camera out there.
 

Thank god! Incredible that Samsung keeps updating this camera, probably the best bang for buck camera you can buy.

And....perhaps few noticed that, but now focus peaking can be turned always on during video...just set the focus peaking to a custom button and you're done. I tested it only with nx lenses, but I guess the same goes for legacy lenses.

I agree. The quote that 4k should be soft is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. 4K is four times the resolution of HD, what makes anyone think that should look soft? I think Reid's losing it, or more to the truth, he's trying to defend his 1DC, which is ridiculous.

After using the GH4 and NX1 I have no desire for a DSLR with OVF for shooting 4K video.
 

Okay I have to chime in here on the NX1 sharpness that everyone is harping on. Sharpness is not an issue unless it's creating visual artifacts like moire. Like adding sharpening, you can blur the image to your hearts content in most modern editors. Also you can use diffusion and filters to get the look you want. I would rather have the sharp image and reduce it than have to artificially sharpen an image. 

​I've seen it produce visible banding in a lot of photos, particularly when recovering shadows, which is half the point of shooting Sony's sensors in the first place.

Also, Nikon offers a more compressed RAW format, but it also has a lossless 14-bit option if you want the best out of your camera. Sony does not. 

​Would KILL for this in Nikon mount. I have a 40mm voightlander that's pretty much how I see. 
Also have to say I would love a low cost 50mm Anamorphic, even if it was f4 I would buy it comes in under a grand.
