  1. So far it's just rumors but still boring specs. Knowing the Canon trend to cripple its DSLR I'm not very optimistic. First it's only 4k30p, then the huge deal breaker of MJPEG with massive file size and need to transcode. It's like Canon can't ignore 4k anymore but wants us to feel the pain of using it. We can probably also forget about peaking and zebra. LOG i don't know but the 1DX doesn't have it. And is that going to be cropped ? What about aliasing and 4K quality, is that going to be like the usual Canon 1080 that looks like 720 ? Last we have DPAF, that's great but if the image sucks and the video features are non existent, the benefit is very small. Looks like I'm going to keep my current camera and wait for the next Sony or GH line.... Conclusion: after holding it for as long as possible, Canon is finally jumping in the 4K train but in the worst possible way with weird specs that are going to be severely outdated in a few month by the upcoming competition that will to give us 4K60 and 6K30 soon. In 3 or 4 years I can't even imagine how theses ridiculous specs will look like...
  2. Easy to get around this type of scam. Personally I always login into my paypal account and check that the funds are there directly. Then I make the shipment. I also never use any other means of payment than Paypal. If someone says that "paypal doesn't work" or ask to use Western Unions, the whole transaction goes to the BS bin.
  3. The essence of that kind of video is: 1. Capture a lot of footage. The author says that he captured 4TB of data to make a 3:30 minutes video in 1080.. 2. Match the transition using motion blur, perfect image and frame alignment. This is very important because just a few degrees difference or 1 frame before or after can ruin/win a transition. Like he says : "To create a continuous movement, every cut must appear to seamlessly transition into the other. And you can only see if shots really work together while you are cutting them on the timeline. You can have a shot that is very cool but the colour, the content or the movement doesn’t match with the preceding or the following shots. So you have to find another one. It’s like a puzzle. Finding those shots that match perfectly together and that also fit with the story and the overall flow of the edit can be a big problem when you have so much footage." So it's a game of patience and hard work, can be very very dull sometime because of the amount of raw footage. For the hyperlpase, I can try to help answer your question if you want. Here is what I do:
  4. For what it's worth, I wrote a review for timelapse network about the Dynamic Perception system. Unfortunately I have very little experience about the Second shooter but it generally has a good reputation. http://timelapsenetwork.com/products/sliders-moco-dollies-and-cranes/dynamic-perception-stage-one-stage-r-review-oliver-kmia/
  5. Just be clear, I haven't used any of these 2 camera but apart from the C-Log, what differentiate the 1Dc over the 1Dx Mk2 in term of being cinematic ? Less rolling shutter ? Better ergonomics ?
  6. DPR just posted the review and they notice a "significantly improved dynamic range". Again I've not tried it. https://***URL removed***/products/canon/slrs/canon_eos1dxii Of course, the point is that I would choose the 1Dx2 over the 1DC anytime especially when the price difference is so "small". 5k for the 1Dc and 6k for the 1Dx which brings 4k/60p, Dual Pixel, better DR according to DPR, etc. Now if the 1DC gets around 3k, I would reconsider.
  7. Agreed, I still find it expensive compared to the 1Dx2 at $6k. Only $1k less but loosing the better DR, Dual Pixel, 4k/60p and all the better photo features. I'd take that over C-Log.
  8. Lol, ok. Don't kill the douche neither, it's a just an SLR rangefinder ! Proportionality !
  9. Sorry to hear that but the douche is right with one thing: never use Western Union, only paypal since you can dispute the transaction there and get your money back. WU is a big red flag in any transaction. If it was me, I'll go full scale against him on social shaming via FB, Twitter, his school, friends and all I could find to corner this little piece of shit.
  10. Finally found this today after digging on the Vimeo forum. Apparently no one like the new stat page Hi everyone! Just wanted to update you all on what’s been going on with stats at Vimeo. We recently rolled some additional users into the new stats system and we’re excited to see what you think about the new look and functionality. You can see our previous update here: vimeo.com/forums/help/topic:280090 Please note that at this time, only members who joined Vimeo on or after January 1, 2015 have been rolled into the new version of stats. If you joined before 2015 you still have the old version of stats. Along with a sleek new design, we’ve added a bunch of awesome features, some of which were inspired by requests from our community! For example, Basic members now have the ability to see at-a-glance data on their stats dashboard (vimeo.com/stats). If you’re a Plus member, you’ll be able to take things a step further and see stats reports for your videos by date, region, device, and source URL. PRO members get all the functionality above, but in more detail: -On the region report: country, state and city-level data -On the device report: breakdown desktop traffic by browser type and version, mobile and tablet traffic by OS and version, and TV traffic by name -On the source URL report: see stats by the exact URL where your video was embedded -On the video report: engagement and duration graphs For the full rundown of features and how to use them, take a look at our FAQ page here: vimeo.com/s/tga If you have any additional questions, some feedback, or are running into any issues, please feel free to post on the forum thread below, or contact us via email at: vimeo.com/help/contact
  11. I'm a Vimeo Plus member and I just saw that the statistic page has been completely changed today. The new interface is very annoying to navigate and some options are now removed (or I can't find them anymore). Now some advanced stats options are greyed out with many pop up proposing to upgrade to a "Pro" membership in order to benefit what was previously part of the package in the Plus membership. For instance, I could check the exact URL source of traffic and this is now only part of the PRO. I hope that I'm missing something here because that would be such a dumb move from Vimeo. Not only I will not get a Pro membership but I'll simply cancel my Plus account and go with Youtube only.
  12. I don't remenber exactly the name of the heli company but it was based at Opa Locka Airport. Since I don't do commercial work I just filmed from the windows/side/bottom. I built a little gimbal for my GH4 because the Ronin would be a little bit big for the heli/airplane. Cheers.
  13. You're welcome. Actually I totally agree, It would be hard to commercialize this kind of shooting due to the time it takes. I'll have to charge a lot of money for a very short sequence. But it's ok because I'm just an amateur. I don't do photography and video professionally, it's only a hobby for me. Just for for fun when I have time. That being said, I think that I've now reached the level of "advanced amateur"
  14. Thanks mate. Yes, that kind of work is rewarding when done but you must be very committed to finish a video like that. Sometime I had to spend 1 hours driving, then 30 minutes setting up and finding the shot, then shooting for a hour or two, driving back and spend hours in post-processing. All that to get a 5-10 sec sequence and it was when the sequence was good. As for the quality I'm very demanding and many sequence did not pass my "quality control" level and went to the trash bin. I only kept the good one and re-shot if necessary.
  15. Yes. I use the focus points in the view finder as a "crosshair" to aim my target or the grid on the live view . I aimed at the building corner and move about 15 cm / 6 inches between each shot. I manually move the tripod between each shot and them re-aim at my target (corner of the building) as precisely as I can. Then I use the tracker in AE to stabilize everything frame by frame as seen in the youtube link above. However there is only so much the post-stab can do and a misalignment of a few degrees during the capture lead to an impossible sequence to fix. The capture phase is everything and you must be very very accurate (and fast..) otherwise you won't be able to fix it in post. This video explains the process:
  16. Thanks. The sequence at 0:25-0:30 was a hyperlapse shot taken with a Canon 6D, Sigma 24 f1.4 Art and a tripod. This sequence is the longest hyperlapse of the video and it took me about 2-3 hours to shoot moving over a distance of 200-300 meters (600-1000 feet). I then speed it up in post. For the story, it is the second attempts because I failed the first one a few days before (I couldn't stabilize it perfectly because I failed to properly align a few pic during the capture). Some of the sequence had to be taken 3 or 4 times until getting the perfect shot. That's why it took me so long to make this video ! Hyperlapse is a matter of patience and frustration !
  17. Hey Thanks. For hyperlapse, check a tutorial on youtube that show how to stabilize a sequence using the tracker on AE. For HDR I use a software called SNS-Pro because photomatix sucks big time at batch processing (generates bad flicker). Last, for the Hoyl grail, you'll need LRTimelapse. The rest is a matter of practice and I hope that you have time because hyperlapse requires a lot of it !
  18. Finally, It was long and painful but I made it after 2 years of work. Here is my Miami video. Enjoy Unlike cities such as New York, Paris or Dubai, no one ever did a real hyperlapse video of Miami so I had to fix this. I started this project 2 years ago with hyperlapse experimentation. My first attempts were very bad and most sequence went to the trash bin. It took me a while to capture the hyperlapse sequence correctly (must be very very accurate) and then do the post-stabiliation frame by frame. Hyperlapse is very time consuming. In average, one second of video takes 1 or 2 hours of work and I don't even count the failed attempts (either I fucked up, light was wrong or something/someone messed with my sequence on site). Techniques: The video is 75% hyperlapse, 5% timelapse and 20% drone and aerial (rented plane and helicopter). I had a massive volume of video and photo (RAW of course) and I only used the tip of the iceberg. I failed many times during my learning process but I now master the most complex type of sequence such as HDR Hyperlapse of Holy Grail Hyperlapse. Gears and software: Here is what I used: ► Hardware: - DJI Phantom 3 Pro with Mars Lite & Mayday Board - TBS Discovery Pro with custom GoPro 4 lens - Polar Pro Filters - Dynamic Perception Stage One & Stage R with NMX controller - Panasonic GH4, Lumix 12-35 f/2.8, Canon FD 50mm f/1.4 and custom made gimbal (Alexmos) - Canon 6D, Samyang 14mm f/2.8, Sigma 24 & 35mm f/1.4 Art, Canon EF 50 f/1.4, Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L, - Cessna 172 & Bell-206 ► Software: - Adobe Premiere & After Effects - Adobe Lightroom - LRTimelapse 4 - SNS-HDR Pro How many pictures ? Honestly I have no idea of the number of pictures taken and I find this point completely irrelevant. The number of shots and TB of hard drive is not a good metric and does not give any indication regarding the quality of the final video. What I can tell is that I finally achieved a good ratio of shooting attempts / keeper sequence. When I started hyperlapse I had to discard 80% of my sequence, now I can keep 70-80% of my clips. I also have a lot of unused sequence that I shot but didn't make it to the final video. I prefer to squeeze the best out of my project and not fall into the trap of "clips stacking" for the sake of it. This video is already long with its 4 minutes duration. Aerial Shots & Safety I used a DJI Phantom 3 Pro for the aerial shots along with a TBS Discovery Pro fitted with a GoPro 4 black. I modded the lens in order to get a longer focal. Some shots were taken from airplane (C-172) and I also rented a Helicopter (Bell-206). In terms of safety, the drone shots were line of sight only and below 400 feet following the AMA & FAA guidlines. 90% of the drone flight occurred over the water even if it's not visible because of the framing. For the remaining 10%, I flew over parks and empty area with the Phantom. I follow a precise scouting of the place before each flight and perform a thorough checklist. And because shit happens, I also installed a Mars Lite parachute with a North UAV Mayday board (special thanks to Kyle) on the Phantom in order to prevent any damage/injury is something goes wrong. Last, I had to notify the airport manager in some places before my flights and I stayed away from Class B airspace of Miami (I couldn't get clearance despite my request). 19. Looks like BS by some guy trying to attract attention and followers to him. As for the pic, the image is so bad that it would be any Canon DSLR. Impossible to say.

    5D mk4 Spec

Actually I don't expect anything from Canon anymore since I already took massive rain showers of disappointment from their lastest camera releases. I just wish to have the bare minimum in 2016 which is decent 4k. For the rest I'm aware of the Canon policy with the C serie camera, I'm sure it works great for them because I bought a GH4 and I might even buy an A7S/R3 next instead of a 5Dmk4.

    5D mk4 Spec

Would be surprising to see 4k60 on the 5Dmk4 when the recent 1Dxmk2 can only does that at the expense of massive file size due to processing and heat issue. Canon will most likely release a crippled 4K just to be able to put the "4k ready" sticker on the brochure. I would expect: - 4K at 30p max - Massive crop in 4k mode - No peaking, no zebra, nothing to help - No log or any video profile (Cinelike, etc.) - 8 bits of course - Then I'm curious about the dual pixel and touch screen. Are they going to be implemented ? We are talking about Canon, should be a boring "major release" that is going to look outdated with the GH5 and new Sony Camera.
  22. Yes I use it sometime. Similar to youtube in terms of features and advertisement. The quality is ok and as youtube most video are junks, you know: teenage girls doing make up Vlog, crappy 10 sec cell phone cat video with 8 millions views and so on. Just youtube in french. It's free so give it a try. Cheers
