  1. Hi, I'm going to get my GH5 soon. According to most reviews it seems that the Zhiyun-Tech Crane 3-Axis is the best product out there: very stable, works out of the box without complicated tuning, reasonable price, small and lightweight, good battery life, etc. What do you think ? Any recommendation or feedback ? Is there a V2 or better product coming that is worth waiting for ? Thanks
  2. I just made this one of Santiago de Chile
  3. Hi Ki, You can go take a look on http://timelapsenetwork.com/ I'm a contributor there. Basically the key of hyperlapse is the shooting phase, you must be very accurate. For post processing use the tracker in AE. There are tutorials on youtube.
  4. Another bad joke from Canon: insulting for previous 5D4 owners, insulting for 1Dx2 owners but who cares about the 5D4 for video actually ? Even with free LOG, the codec and crop make this camera useless for video work. The A9 is in a different league. Let's wait for the A7S3 now.
  5. Don't the NX1, Sony A6500 and GH5 already offer that ?
  6. Basically a sport camera, nothing very exciting on the video side. http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sonys-new-a9-announced/#more-57446
  7. Looks like a massive offensive from Canon on the video side: DPR sponsored content, potential firmware upgrade and now they send you a unit. The 5mk4 sales figures must be bad ! Anyway, too little too late for Canon. The lack of innovation was the last drop for me, I already bought a GH5. It would take more than a moderate crop factor and reasonable codec to convince me to spend $3500 in this body. Plus, does the mk4 have the hardware to handle proper 4k ? Let's see at NAB...
  8. So Canon send you a unit, purchases a lot of sponsored content on DPR to praise the video capabilities and now considers a major firmware to unlock this body ? The sales must be very bad. Seems to be little and too late for Canon. In my case the 5d4 was the last drop of non sense from this company. I'm done, I bought a GH5. They would have to come up with more than band aid fix to convince me to drop another $3500. A bit of improvement on the crop and codec is not going to cut it. Does the mark 4 even have the hardware to fix all the issues ? Let's see what they announce at NAB.
  9. I'm ok on my PC, that's her who always comes to borrow my PC laptop because she can't install a software on her MAC. As for having "no clue how to properly use it" I must say that I haven't found a way to magically creates a HDMI, USB and 3.5mm jack on her laptop. If anything she is the "frustrated" one with her MAC book.
  10. I've been a PC guy all my life, just happened like that, like starting with Canon or Nikon. I have zero brand fetishism or preference. I'll switch to Linux or Mac as soon as I see any advantage but right now the Mac computer are just too expensive for the specs. At home my girlfriend recently bought one of their latest laptop and Iphone and every-time she needs to do something beyond internet browsing she calls me to rescue her: - Want to install some "exotic" software, NOPE, it doesn't work on Mac - Want to watch a movie via the Laptop HDMI, of course there is no HDMI out on the Mac laptop - Want to plug anything in general ? NOPE, there is very little connectivity and the removal of the 3.5mm is utterly stupid IMHO. Just another excuse to sell you overpriced accessories. Plus, I hate the wireless accessories, it always runs out of battery when you need it the most. - Need a basic apple cable ? You must buy the dedicated Apple cable for $29 or it won't work properly. As for Apple and ethic, they are no better or worst than all the other silicon valley hipster companies. They are here to do business. They are not cool or evil, just protecting their own interest. Fighting Trump immigration policy when it's bad for their HR strategy but they haven't said anything about the new FCC policy change regarding selling the internet history...
  11. Doesn't he have a 1Dx2 already ? I could totally see Canon not bringing C-Log and better codec to the 1Dx2 to force owners to get a 5D4... This is the bare minimum for a flagship camera in 2015-2016. Now the standard are 4k60 with no crop, IBIS and potentially 10bits. Even if this upgrade is real, Canon is still lagging far behind and it's not going to look any better with the next A7S & R camera.
  12. If this is true, he 5Dmk4 sales must be really bad or Canon starts to realize how outdated their new "flagship" is to propose these emergency fixes. Either way this is pathetic and Canon deserves it. A pig with lipstick is still a pig, the 5D4 doesn't have the appropriate hardware to compete with the Panasonic and Sony. I'm certainly not going to cancel my GH5 and I'm looking forward for the Sony A7S3. Too late Canon.
  13. I had the same issue when the first 4k10 bits footage sample came out on this forum. You can convert in ProRes, DNxHD or Cineform until the NLE are updated
  14. Yes, they are very nice and inexpensive, with the IBIS you should be able to use longer focal handheld (haven't tried yet). The 50mm f1./4 is like $50 on ebay. I also got the 200mm f2.8 and ($80) and 300mm f something for the very long focal (600mm equiv) timelapse or moonshot.
  15. Restructuring a business unit doesn't mean suppressing the activity behind the division, it's just a corporate management thing. Might not necessarily be a bad thing if it brings more innovation, cost reduction and keep the finance department under control. It's better to act before hand than letting a division die or appear vulnerable internally. So far we don't know the details, there could be a lot of internal "politics". And yes, 60k units sold over a year is not that much for a company with 250,000 employee (btw where did that sales number come from ?) In that type of business, the manufacturer get a third of the sales price, the retailer another third and the production cost the last third. For a $2000 camera, Pana margin is something like $600 x 60,000 units = $36 millions which is a drop over its $62 billions/ year revenue
  16. "With these (f/1.2 native lenses) the GH5 is quite a low light monster and can easily go into a situation where you’d be pushing ISO 12,800 on a full frame camera. The low light performance quibbles people have over this camera are a myth, you just need the right glass." So you stick a f/1.2 lenses on the GH5 and you got similar low light performance you would get on the a Sony A7 camera with a f/1.4 lens ? Um... Looks like Panasonic did some miracle on the GH5.... I'll wait until you spend some more "quality time" with your new baby Enjoy
  17. What do you guys think about Kennedy assassination btw ? Should college students carry firearms to protect themselves during mass shootings on campus ? Are people in UK stupid to have voted for the Brexit ? Why is Marine le Pen so popular in France ? Do you think Russia was behind the Democrat/Hillary email hack ? What happened to the MH370 flight ? Is someone hiding something ? Are Muslim terrorists a deviant form of a peaceful religion or the visible part of an intrinsically violent Islamic culture ? Can't wait to hear your opinions. No Godwin points please. Courtesy first
  18. The team have moved on. They are probably tired to rescuing crippled camera. The latest firmware were for the 70D and 700D... https://builds.magiclantern.fm/
  19. Nothing officially confirmed yet, looks like an info from the Guardian https://www.theguardian.com/business/2017/mar/20/us-forbids-devices-larger-cell-phones-flights-13-countries
  20. They fucked up because Canon fails to understand that entry to medium range ($1000-$3000) camera with good video capabilities would generate some substantial sales and there is definitely a market segment here (eg GH4). Even if this "video DSLR" market segment represents 3-5%; Is the Camera industry doing so well that they can ignore it ? They fucked up because now this market segment is being taken by Panasonic and Sony and people who make the switch are not going to come back. They fucked up because some conservative executives in Japan think that delivering decent video feature in DSLR/Miroless body would hurt their pro-cinema line when actually the pro do need a real pro camera with built in ND, XLR and all the pro cam features. They fucked up to comprehend that the amateurs or video enthusiasts like me can't spend the money they don't have for an expensive Pro camera and even if I had the money I need something small capable of doing video and stills (plus having a nice full frame sensor and not S35). It has nothing to do with cannibalization, Sony does have A7 and FS line and they do just fine because they know it's two different market. Bottom line is that I laugh at the 5D4, I pre-order the GH5 and I'm not spending a dime anymore on Canon gears. I may not be the typical core market guy for Canon but is the camera industry doing so well than they can ignore the 3-5% video/stills folks and laugh at the face of customers who invested a lot $$$ over the years ?
  21. Hahahha. That was fun. I'll get a second ANUS and the lens. At that price it must be great and my video are going to look so good now.
  22. Question @Andrew Reid, is there a real benefit for 10bits 4K at 150mbps ? Does this extra 50mpbs over the GH5 really allows to "store" the 10bits info. I mean, the codec is still H.264. Also, I know the 400mbps update is coming but it will be ALL-I vs more efficient IPB for the 150mbps. What do you think about that Andrew ? Thanks
