  1. Vimeo is not bad and $60 a year is an ok price for me. I use youtube and vimeo and the quality is similar. In your case I would take a look on dailymotion, the french youtube. http://www.dailymotion.com/us There is a password protected option https://faq.dailymotion.com/hc/en-us/articles/203790756-Privacy-visibility-and-comment-moderation
  2. Hey Andrew. Couldn't agree more with what you said about the FB and instagram franzy. The rush to be the first over quality, the frequency of publication over depth of content, etc. For what it's worth I really appreciate your work and honesty. It becomes very rare on internet these days with all the informercials BS so please keep trashing the products that must be trashed without any preference or loyalty to any brand. I found DigRev to be one of the most overrated and useless piece of "reviewers". They make long video for nothing, fail to be fun and eventually dedicate 2% of the time to talk about the gears. I'm still surprised they have so much viewers. Same goes for many other internet celebrities. So keep your style and let the fanboys whine. We are not running for celebrity here and if I can help regarding drones and timelapse (my area of expertise), I'll be glad to do so. Cheers
  3. @henryp Thanks for taking the time to comment here and give us additional information about your work at B&H. I appreciate your effort. I've noted your email in case I have an issue with the comments in the future. For the rest, who belongs to which group and how many employee believe in X or Y is off topic for me. @damphousse The reasons behind the closing doesn't really matter. In fact It's because I really like B&H that I'm sometime "irritated" about it. Actually I bought a bunch of filters this morning at B&H. My point is to get others people opinion, not to engage any battle or confrontation. All good. @forofilms Yes I saw that before but I honestly don't know the case in detail. Both party present valid arguments. I'm not qualified to have a valid opinion on this matter but I definitely look at the trend and future court decisions if any.
  4. Ok, we're good. No problem. I was just curious about other's people opinion on the subject and overall experience with B&H. Got some good info already but you're right. At this point I can just shop elsewhere. Nothing more to say.
  5. Here we go, let's clear the air once again here because I have no problem with any religion or group, the subject of my "ranting" was about the regular closing which in this case is for Jewish Holidays and also the censoring of comments. I mentioned it because this is why they close. It could be for Muslim holidays, hipster Burning man party, the UFO lovers reunions or whatever reason, a closing is a closing, same for the comments. If I had any problem with them, I would probably not have spent a lot of money with B&H already so please save your borderline comments for yourself. I you have a problem with that, it's not mine. As for the notification, you're right but I didn't pay attention last time I ordered. And good to know for Adorama, I never ordered with them actually and I was the impression that they had similar service than B&H.
  6. Of course I went to the store near Madison square garden with the fun moving cart system on the ceiling and I know they are "mega orthodox Hasidic" But again, the point is not about jews or muslims, gays, animal lovers or whatever group it can be. I really like B&H for the service but the regular closing and comment censorship bugs me a little and I was curious about other people experience, especially about the comments. And as many said, no big deal since we have plenty of options.
  7. Hi, I'm curious to see your opinions about B&H here. I've been a regular customers for years now throwing a lot of money with this store and I'm usually very satisfy with the experience and customer service. However I'm getting more and more annoyed by their super strict religious policy which make them close many weeks per year due to Jewish holidays. The latest was a one week closure for Passover. I didn't pay attention and order just before the celebration and my product arrived 2 weeks later. Now I totally understand and respect their religious position. It's the way they are but on top of that I recently got a lot of comments deleted after leaving mixed reviews on their website. It was nothing trashy, just objective point of view and reports of real flaws (eg. the micro jitter issue on the Panasonic 14-140 lens that make the image stabilization useless in video). So at this point I'm going to order my stuff on Amazon. The customer service is excellent too, the store doesn't shut down for weeks (not even a day actually) and the comments are not censored. What do you think ?
  8. Yes, for the lack on ND filter thread we can still shoot without and forget about the 180 rule. Works too. In my case I do a lot of timelapse and hyperlapse and I really need 10 stop ND filter for daylight shooting. That being said it's not a deal breaker since most ultra wide lens lack the ND filter too. I know LEE filter makes adapter but they are crazy expensive and bulky
  9. Yes, the Sigma Art lense are amazingly good for the price. I have the 24 and 35 version but the only problem (for me) with the 20mm is the lack of filter thread.
  10. So far none that I know but the GH5 and A7S/R3 coming this year should fill the void. Meanwhile most Sony and Panasonic camera have offered 4K 30p for the past 2 years. Heck even cheap Xiaomi action cam manufacturer is going to introduce 4K on the new Xiaomi Yi. Meanwhile Canon might finally wake up and give us crippled 4k with the new 5Dmk4 but who care at this point ? They'll still be 3 steps behind the rest of the industry.
  11. Exactly, not doubt the RED & Co are great camera but it's not an option for many of us. For my style of shooting, I need to travel light and have everything in one package. I can't handle a body with a cage, a external monitor and recorder plus all the usual cable mess around it.
  12. Hey Guys. I've been building and flying drone for years now, long before it became mainstream. Here is what I would consider: - Before buying a 4-5K inspire, get a a dirt cheap used Phantom 3 Standard (the cheap version) for $300-400 and play with it a lot. The control and handling are similar to the Inspire but this is the one you want to experiment and crash (because you will crash at the beginning). I would even start with a $35 Hubsan X4 to get familiar with the controls. - There are a lot of brand but the ready to fly package are DJI, Yuneec and 3DR. unfortunately the inspire with X5 is the only one that can provide enough IQ for real pro work. - Matrice 600 Vs Inspire X5R ? Beside the big size difference, the main aspect is redundancy. There is no room for failure on the Inspire. If one ESC/Motor/Prop/battery/flight controller IMU or compass fails, the whole drone is going down. The new Matrice 600 offers in its Pro version a new A3 flight controller with 3 GPS antenna and 3 IMU in order to prevent failure (like in modern airliners, the 3 sensors check against each other and the computer eliminate the one unit that would give false reading) The Matrice can also handle the loss of and ESC/Motor or prop and land safely, albeit with limited control. A quadcopter will spin an free fall in this case. There are solutions though with safety parachute and automatic deployment systems such as MARS and NorthUAV mayday board. Last the Matrice 600 has a multi battery system that can handle the loss of power on one battery. This multi battery systems also offers the advantage of not having to carry large battery like other drone in this class. Large batteries are a problem because they are legally impossible to carry on board aircraft (check IATA policy). - As for flying, all these machine offer dumb proof assisted flight mode (GPS, ATTI, Return to home). No need to be an helicopter pilot. Any kid can fly a drone these days. Just a matter of practice. Feel free if you have other questions. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100010518735843 https://vimeo.com/oliverkmia
  13. Perhaps but with Canon I always expect to "see the impossible"... Even with 4k, what kind of 4k would that be ? The kind that looks like 1440p ? The kind full of moire ? The 8 bits kind at 500mbps ? And it will most likely omit LOG, peaking, zebra or even lack AF in 4k (remember the the 7Dmk2 doesn't has AF in 1080 60 !?). So I would bet on a 4K for the shiny sticker on the box.
  14. DP Review is own by Amazon and they surely have a certain policy with the manufacturers. Yes they have the "think positive" attitude but they are honest and it's easy to read between the lines or see the sample by yourself. I can't say the same for a vast majority of blogs and other websites that puke advertorials all over the place to maintain their "preferred relation" by distributing constant 3 to 5 stars ratings. What I expect from a review is to show me all the bad and the ugly, not to sugar coat the reality. And I deeply thank you Andrew for doing that with Canon and all the other, Sony included. I myself do a little bit of review and testing in a different industry and it's very hard to resist the ambient corruption. It takes courage and that's not easy. The comfortable position is to get invited, paid and promoted by all the "partners" and this is what most reviewers and "journalists" do because they have to pay the bills at the end of the month and being the white knight quickly close all the doors and turn you into a black sheep in terms of PR. Long life to EOSHD.com
  15. Canon 1Dx II is $6k and 20mpx vs $3.5k and 42mpx for the A7R2. The Canon is also much larger and heavier which helps for heat transfer. Also, 1Dx 4k at 30fps is 500mbps ! In this regard, It would be more reasonable to compare the the A7R2 to.... 80D ? There is no 4k on it. I still prefer having overheating issue and 4K than no 4k at all. There is no problem when you don't even try. There is no much to say. Takes 2 minutes to go over DPreview and check by yourself. Given the recent Canon's history of "innovation" on its new release, I don't really need to get the full review. I couldn't care less if Canon was left behind in its 2012 era but unfortunately I have a vast collection of EF lenses and I'm now stuck with a brand that can't or doesn't want to innovate anymore. What did Canon do for the past 5 or 6 years beside the dual-pixel which is useless when they offer crappy 1080 that looks like 720 full of moire. The point is not about talking shit, or insulting people but seeing the reality. Since the T3i, 60D, 5Dmk3 and 6D nothing major happened with Canon. Yes the 1DxMk2, the 80D are good camera but so are the 1dx, the 5Dmk3, the 6D and the 60D. I'm now waiting the announcement of the 5Dmk4 with very little hope given the latest Canon releases but at some point I'll have to make a choice, take my loss and get rid of my EF collection to move to another system. I'll probably wait until 2020 or so.
  16. Of course it will. So does the 1Dx. The problem is not about being a bad camera, it's a about the micro leap in terms of improvements over the previous generation. 4 years for what ? A slightly bump in pixel, catching up in DR, same ISO, a few more FPS, better AF. It's not worth $6k for me.
  17. At least the dynamic range of the newest Canon flagship Camera is now up to the standard of the last year medium level competitor bodies. Ok great... Took 4 years for Canon to get there without anything else on the IQ side ? And we are talking about a $6k camera. In 1 or 2 years the Sony or Nikon entry level FF or even Crop will blow the 1DX that supposed to last until 2020. Of course I know that IQ is one of the features, along with AF, FPS, etc. but it's too little, to late and too expensive for me. I can't justify the spend $6k for a marginal improvement over a 4 years period. With that money I could: 1. buy the new A7R3 with the 24-70 2.8 G-Master. 2. buy the previous Canon generation camera, save a lot of money, loose a few feartures but have the same IQ
  18. You are so negative Andrew ! We should be happy with the 2012 camera price drop. On the bright side, the 6D/5Dmk3/1DC/X are becoming cheaper and cheaper after each Canon "new" release. Since Canon gets stuck on sensor/processing performance why paying 2016 premium price when we can get the same IQ with heavily discounted 2012 camera ? I'll wait for the 5Dmk4 to buy another mk3 or perhaps a A7S/R3.
  19. Very nice but hopefully the next generation of camera will introduce some sort of internal 10 bits recording capabilities as well. I don't really enjoy having an extra monitor and cable mess around. It defeats the portability purpose for me.
  20. We are talking about Canon. Remember about the "see the impossible" marketing campaign for a useless website ? Remember the "revolutionary" XC10 ? Remember about the "great for video" 80D that can do 1080/60p with AF in 2016, which also required an additional $200 "Power Zoom adapter" ? Should I go on ? I personally remember the day I choose to invest in Canon gears, I'm only waiting for the 5Dmk4 now before switching definitively to Sony and Panasonic.
  21. I think that we are missing the point here. Of course DSRL with their larger sensor and better optic offer better flexibility, especially in low light but nowadays, smartphones have reach a very decent level. In daylight, It would be hard for me to differentiate 2 photo side by side taken from a DSLR and an Iphone. Many user here can disagree with that level of quality but we are the minority. The mass who doesn't care about DOF, manuel mode and all that stuff has already voted. They elected Iphone and Droid phones with the consequence of killing the point and shoot market. All smartphone have a camera, no need for extra weight and cost, they take acceptable pic for food blog, soccer mom, selfie, pets and vacations etc. They also offers the immense advantage of being able to upload a pic on FB, instagram and twitter in 2 seconds. For this type of application,s who cares about dynamic range, 14 bits, etc. Most people won't go further than instagram filter and faceswap. So why throw extra $$$ to get a heavy camera than can't upload anything and add filters without a computer ?
  22. Since vimeo is not getting advertisement money. They must handle the associated cost of 4k in terms of storage and bandwidth. Implementing this auto-resolution thing might be solution to compensate the 4K. In other words give on one side and take it back from the other side.
  23. Get the 80D, Andrew did a lovely preview about it Seriously, I wouldn't invest in the NX1. Not because of the lack of native lens but the other way around. Looks like Samsung is dropping the camera business and I don't see the point of investing in a lens mount that won't fit in any body later on.
  24. Kind of disappointing but I also got 4K playback on my video for first time on my plus account. I posted a 4K in January and it played in 1080 max. Now vimeo is taking 4K which is nice.
