The successor would be this (139 €). In the image you also see a good way to operate this camera handheld.
With a heavier lens and the speedbooster, it's better to move the grip to the side, horizontally. My DIY solution:

Had there been the Lanparte-Remote then, I would've used this. Mine isn't that elegant. But it was ~$ 15 ...

    > use only ProRes-flavors
    > use only Menu >Recording >Dynamic Range >Film
    > use only Menu >Display >Dynamic Range >Video
    > use exclusively ISO 800, no matter what
    > use 180° degree shutter in standard situations (for 24p with 60 Hz power frequency, for PAL countries then 172,5°)
    > use bigger shutter angles in lowlight for slow moving motifs, up to 360° (doubles exposure w/o more noise or worse DR through ISO 1600)
    > use smaller shutter angles for slomos (down to 11,25°). Twixtor and the like don't handle motion blur well
    > roughly guess the right color temperature, i.e. 3200 for Tungsten, 5600 for daylight. You have to grade anyway
    > buy the Zacuto loupe if you want to see anything
    > buy a camera grip with remote, like this, not a big cage, rods, mattebox and these gadgets
    > if you need s.th. like an external monitor, beware! Not all will show an image. Lilliput has a compatibility table (1080p through HDMI)
    > during recording, leave focus peaking on always (since latest FW update, it stays on after power off-on)
    > rely on 95% zebra ("ETTR"). It gives better results than trying to get a wide range in the histogram, in my experience
    > if there is no zebra, it means you don't 'fill the well' because the location is lit too poorly. This ain't the A7s!
    > therefore: search the sun! or light the scene! High contrasts, backlight: that's where the Pocket's DR shines
    > use an IR-cut filter
    > use externally recorded audio (built-in audio only to sychronize it). Or this (resp. it's successor)
    > use an app that allows to load LUTs (i.e. the free Resolve lite). Try Captain Hooks LUTs, here (download), from this site (starting point for your grade)
    > don't grade too flat. One gets used to flat looking images very quickly. But others don't.

Of course the lcd is a major issue and you aren't the first person I have heard who have had issue with it. Like I said, I don't have one... So is the issue it is just too dark in general or due to the angle you hold the camera makes the screen too dark?

Still badly need the 2.35 and 2.66 cropmarks for "normal" video modes though.

It sounds awesomely annoying. I have been mad at myself for the better part of a year about not jumping on the BM pocket last summer.

Get the new micro camera… 30p global shutter, 60p rolling. 60p Pro Res files are going to be just awesome.

ok guys, definetly I can not raccomend zoom H6 for cinema because it does not give a safety track for phantom power mics. if actors screams you can not have a professional audio. I do not racommend to use the limiter because it compress the voice and it seem a kazoo or a megaphone, it's not professional.
they sell the expansion unit ehx-6 that give safety track but it does not work with phantom power mics, it's all a very big bad advertising marketing trap. do not fall in it like me.

... I bought a Y cable to find out a solution to this problem but I failed the experiment it half (and more) the volume. so there is no way to solve the problem. I must find another recorder.

I just picked up this deal. It's actually $995 but still not bad. Although I rather they have a prime bundled, this lens should be interesting especially with OIS. I feel like everyone on EOSHD has a pocket camera except me or something.

As Jimmy said, it's a camera that won't make you want to sell it in like 1 or 2 years, because of the great image. You can get it for 470€ now here: http://syntex.sk/p/blackmagic-pocket-cinema-camera/c/cameras-digital-cinematography?lang=EN#3

There are usually plenty on eBay... I love mine... It is the only camera I haven't sold or exchanged over the last few years. My jaw always drops when I get the raw footage into After Effects. It is packed in my bag, ready for a trip to Portugal on Friday, along with the A7s.

if you dont mind the lack of slowmo and and no global shutter, wait a bit and get it, love the BM image.

No point in stooping to a common tactic like that - I have great MFT lenses and would like to utilize those.. I also know a lot of people wanting to run Speedboosters etc - it opens up light gathering abilities and DoF possibilities, compared to whatever the built in zoom on this thing can do. Also, that way, the glass is separated out, so you don't pay for it when all you need is a camera, you can get better quality lenses, and if you want a better camera, you are not locked into spending more money than necessary again..
Not sure why you take offense with a simple comment about having two versions being preferable, but maybe you are just having a crappy day.

Why not make two versions? Fine, sell this to ENG - then make a slightly different version with a mft mount for filmmakers that want to swap out lenses..

I don't want to come across as being self-serving with this, but I work at one of the retailers that received pre-release firmware to test on the GH4. There are "reasons" V-LOG-L is not part of the v2.2 update, but I can assure you, Panasonic would not have let us release the footage we shot with it if they weren't planning on actually bringing it to the GH4. We tested it in some fairly low-light conditions and, yes, it is noisy, but the footage was still a dream to work with in post compared to CineD.
Here is a link to a basic before/after color grade test I did (sorry if the colors are "dodgy" ;-) ): https://youtu.be/AhPK56Ii5sw
    And our full presentation: https://youtu.be/_aEMUDQlRFE
    Lens used was a Cooke 40mm t/2.3 2x anamorphic.
Again, really not trying to come across as self-serving or spammy here, just wanting to contribute to the conversation.

Even if they gave us raw via the YAGH only it would be better than doing nothing and not selling any YAGH LOL boxes.
The one in Berlin near me is reduced from 2200 to 900 so I can't assume it has been flying off the shelves.
Panasonic need to stop making silly mistakes.
Before the YAGH came out I told them in a feedback session exactly what design it should have, and they went and made something completely ridiculous.

I am very satisfied with my gh4's but the hype around this firmwware got me to expect more.
For me, V-log won't matter, i struggle with gh4 in low light shooting weddings that i constantly switch between different profiles for daylight and indoors, flat profiles for low light is a disaster, especially for gh4 sensor.
i.Dynamic pushes the DR to the max, there is little one could do in post, even with v-log or RAW, you get noise and detail that it's unsuable from all the noise.
I watched the camerastore review of the firmware and damn that noise, gh4 can do better but not by much, better bring that speedbooster and that 1.4 lens if you want to shoot in low light, and forget about v-log.
I would've wished for 10 bit 422  internally for better grading with masks, even if it was FHD.
Panasonic already has my money, good stuff this new firmware, for some people.
