  1. Could also be something along the lines of this: http://www.youcanrobot.com/
  2. Isn't Jordan Drake of TheCameraStoreTV DPReview TV on here at times? Maybe he can put in a good word. I've only really ever been on Personal-View (in the GH2 days mostly) and rumor sites other than here. Never felt the urge to join up over at DPRev or many of the <insert>user forums tbh.

    Canon XA50

I was pretty amazed with what their XF705 was capable of... https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/products/details/camcorders/professional/xf705 | https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/about/newsroom/press-releases/press-release-details/2018/20180912-camcorder/20180912-camcorder, 'features 4K (3840 x 2160) video shooting enabling users to record high-image quality at 60p/4:2:2/10-bit/HDR1 video to on-board SD cards', 'slow motion recording up to 120fps in Full HD', 'easily choose between two HDR formats—Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG), ideal for such scenarios as broadcasting and live video transmission and Perceptual Quantization (PQ), which is well-suited during web transmission and film production', 'Live IP Streaming capability', 'features Canon’s newly developed XF-HEVC video format that enables users to record HDR video to SD cards while delivering a high compression ratio. It also allows HDR (internal SD card) and SDR (external recorder) simultaneous recording', '(first Canon camcorder to adopt the H.265/HEVC codec)', 'featuring Canon’s revolutionary Dual Pixel CMOS AF', 'Canon Log 3, 12G-SDI, Built-in Wi-Fi, 4-channel audio, 3 density ND filter and 5 axis image stabilization for its 15x optical zoom lens', 'adjustable 4.0-inch touch panel LCD monitor and a built-in 0.46-inch electronic viewfinder'... of course then you read: 'suggested retail price of $6,999.00'. Ouch. I knew it had to hurt somewhere. But it goes to show there's not a complete lack of innovation over at Canon. Like... they could implement cool features and tech into more cameras... if they actually wanted to. Just... 99% of the time they don't want you to have it. 'Pay peanuts, get monkeys'-sorta approach. They don't lack innovation, they lack the motivation to put it into more cameras. They rather re-package a DSLR as a mirrorless camera and vice versa and call it a day; less effort. I perhaps would do the same if idiots kept buying into that strategy... ugh. Wish someone would make a proper follow-up to the JVC GY-LS300 already. Wish Canon would follow Panasonic's and Sony's way of pushing tech and competitive pricing. An attractively priced XC15 with interchangeable lens mount and XF705 kind of features would be pretty sick.

  5. Brainwavz have been on my radar for like 10 years or so... so I'm not jumping on them now because they are the latest rage. All started that one time when I actually was fed up with in-ears after I tried some terrible Creative Labs ones and was on regular earbuds for quite some time, but then saw the Brainwavz Alpha were on sale. I bought like two pairs for a total of $8 (back then they retailed through MP4Nation.net , that site is dead now unfortunately) and was suprised about the comfort and audio quality one would get for that price and more soon followed... (Of course back then the B2 were shared with Fisher Audio IEMs, much like the Alara apparently are the same cans as some other ones as well) I then kinda got obsessed with how great audio could sound and how cheap it could be had. Soon I was trying everything from China on a never ending quest to find the best bang-for-buck IEMs with best audio signature (it's like affordable vintage lenses and their unique looks). I made comparisons and reviews on Dutch forums. Discovered the AWEI ES800M that really blew up back then. This went on and on for quite some time. xD Then it was audio players... (tube) amps, (gaming) headphones, (bluetooth) speakers. Was one of the first to get the HM9 cans from Brainwavz back in the day: Soon I was asked by webshops and manufacturers to review this and that... including like R/C stuff and Chinese brand smartphones. At some point though, I noticed that I wasn't having much fun with it anymore. Felt more like a job, like I was working at a newspaper ('but that grind tho!' as YouTubers perhaps would say, lol, missed chance perhaps, I could've perhaps been big like MKBHD or Unboxing Therapy are now). And I had some time for that kind of nonsense when I was on parttime, but I quit doing that kinda stuff when I went back to work fulltime. I mean, it used to be fun to inform people about the bargains they could buy, but I stopped chasing it myself and rather focused on stuff that I liked. Bit of BOSE, bit of Sennheiser, Philips, Sony... also the legendary beautifully crafted graph of mine: I mean... 1. don't spend much; don't get much. 3. spend a whole lot... sure it's the best... but is it that much better than something a little cheaper? 2. Is the sweetspot, when you just spend the right amount of money and get a whole lot back for it. But yeah, Brainwavz still going strong after all these years and are doing what most Chinese companies fail at... staying relevant. Anyways. So much for storytime with Cinegain. ? ... so, how about that P30 Pro tho? I'm suprised they put wireless charging in there and didn't announce a Porsche Design version that would have it and cost like 1999.
  6. I hadn't seen his channel, no. I used to follow quite a bit of ljokerl and ClieOS on Head-Fi back in the day. But yeah, that's another hobby that can get completely out of hand, lolz... those are the kind of blackholes you can get sucked in quite deep to... luckily I managed to steer clear of going full Sennheiser HE 1. ? You're slowly working your way there by the looks of it. Nice line-up. I tell myself that stuff can't hurt too much if it gets destroyed or lost, it needs to be fairly easily replaceable, so I'm more on the bottom end of the spectrum.
  7. Noice, I just went with Vodafone back in The Netherlands (Vodafone means extra perks for having internet/tv with their daughter provider), going to have a Dutch phonenumber again after having spent 11 years abroad. I used to be a guy that did SIM only deals and bought my own phones outright, but with phone prices up and contracts increasingly more attractive, you're hardly paying anything on top of the price of the smartphone, really. Nice sidebar, I recently got the Brainwavz Alara planar magnetic headphones in, usually just hook it up to a Stoner Acoustics UD125 and it's a pretty wicked awesome sounding setup (not very portable or public-friendly (open back cans)). Anyways. I'll be getting one then. ? There's some exciting features in there. Keen to see for myself what it's like. Yeah, not sure where it would be availlable 'today', but here it will take a week or so as well.
  8. According mister Chinglish from the video there, the availlability is 'now'. As per usual there's an early bird bonus, this time around no Leica Instant Camera or BOSE QuietComfort 35 II (or in my case with the P20 Pro back then an almost worthless USB-C 360 cam attachment)... it's a Sonos One speaker and a wireless charging pad. Though, in all honesty, all throughout the year you get freebies... and if you wait like 6 months, you get the phone for like 30% off (see Mate 20 Pro). I'm not expecting to do a whole lot of filmmaking with this or anything, let's be honest, but the P20 Pro indeed was fun and impressive to use this last year. Definitely a hit to the premium compacts which mostly boasted with sensitivity and optical zoom to set itself apart from smartphones... the gap is closing down tremendously, which just goes to show what a shame it is that the LX100 II is such a lacklustre update. Was really thinking about that Sony Xperia 1 too though. But it's kinda the wrong tool for the job perhaps. I just got my BMPCC4K in yesterday (after 7 months of waiting) and if you gonna do cinematic setups... it makes more sense to use a cinema camera than a smartphone. The P30 Pro makes it more approachable and purposeful when you think of the practical use of a smartphone. One thing though... my old ZTE Nubia Z9 and the Xperia 1 have a shutterbutton conveniently located under the righthand index finger when holding the phone in landscape orientation. It boggles my mind a little these 'Leica' highly camera-oriented smartphones don't have that.
  9. It's interesting that they start using RYYB sensors, wonder if there's really any merit in that and if that means that we'll be seeing that elsewhere as well. After my ZTE Nubia Z9 I went with the P10 Plus... felt a little disappointed. Definitely been having a good time with the P20 Pro, but it's pretty lousy on the video front. Seems Parker indeed had that P30 Pro with him on that Cancun trip he earlier labelled as 'unreleased smartphone'.
  10. Well, I mean, maybe business outside of the US. ? But looks impressive so far, especially regarding sensitivity.
  11. I'm with ^ Camera manufacturers have been hit hard over the last few years, mainly because of smartphones (btw, Huawei P30 Pro launch in about 15 mins or so; livestream here ). We seen them shy away from catering for the entrylevel/low-end in favor of the high-end where the money now has to be made. Everybody is playing the segmentation game and crippling certain features in order to generate more sales elsewhere. And the low-end gets a minimum effort make-over with increased prices. This isn't just a Canon strategy (which has worked for them for years unfortunately), Panasonic is doing it now too. The GX9 was more of a successor to the GX80/85 than the GX8. No longer, like the GH2 and GH4 is there one flagship camera that they put everything into. If you want it all you have to get all three flagship bodies: GH5, G9 and GH5S. Increased focus on high-end lenses. Cameras like the LX100 and FZ1000 hardly getting a worthy gen II update people were looking forward to. They still make great cameras, but the G80/85 was one of their last really awesome bang-for-buck cameras for people on a budget/or just in general as a B-cam or something... and I doubt they'll make the same 'mistake' again as I think their strategy has shifted. GH4 -> G80/85 was a great step and option to have of course. But don't expect fairydust and unicorns this time around.
  12. Haven't really looked into it, but I suppose most manufacturers sip your data without permission anyways. Don't think Huawei is doing much out of the ordinary, but people like to blow things up and find stuff to be upset about. Guess the US will be missing out then. ? Parker before did a sponsorship with LG, so could be some unannounced phone from theirs, but I don't think any was rumored and they've already got a flagship out I believe. OPPO and other Chinese manufacturers are looking to shake things up as well, incl. 10x zoom schtuff, so maybe it's them. It's just more obvious that it's Huawei, because they've continuously been dropping hints recently and the announcement is next week.
  13. Seems like there's a glimps of that (my 'guess'): Looks like the Xperia 1 is in for some video competition...
  14. Well, it's been a long 7 months... but apparently they've allocated one of these to my pre-order finally. xD Hope it was worth the wait.

@BTM_Pix That Canon zoom... needs some kind of modification when adapted to MFT, could you confirm? And is that a lot of trouble?
  16. Yeah, at some point they gotta ditch that regurgitated sensor from the D5200 (I believe it's still the same in the D5600, no? Which is the same as in the D5300, so... same sensor but without the AA-filter?) and traditional DSLR approach you'd think. I'm selling my D5300, so collected all bits and bobs and took a shot with it to figure out the shutter count. But the quality actually is still really rather impressive. Nikon results are always on point. I just never was able to live with a traditional DSLR, as my first foray into interchangable cameras was with a mirrorless one: the GH2. Just from a usability standpoint I'd say no to mirrored cameras. But... I'm also saying no to FF cameras. I like the option to have small compact glass, which usually comes in affordable priceranges as well. Honestly, the D5300 with that 35mm f/1.8G is pretty brilliant. Just... would be so much better mirrorless, with IBIS, shooting uncropped 4K and having somewhat solid C-AF. Fujifilm I'm slowly warming up to. But videocentric lacking IBIS and hardly any OIS lenses for example kinda puts me of. Also, not as a supported platform by third parties as some of the others. Canon EOS-M I find a bad joke. And Sony A6x00 is the wrong approach (small body = issues) with a neglected native to sensor size lens line-up (pushing you towards the more interesting FF E-mount lens options, but at the cost of size/weight/price; defeating the point of a small body). So, I'm still with MFT that has much improved post-GH4 in terms of performance. But... I could be swayed by a Nikon Z APS-C crop camera if it's basically a GH5 with APS-C performance and (S35) advantages. And they do have the most flexible mount out there in terms of flange distance as well, respect for that.

That's exactly how I used to do/do it. ? Maybe in white it's better as well. E.g. -- altn edit based on Kye-feedback
  18. Around the 16:00 mark some more background info... Think I might want one, though. Looks pretty sweet. Even a shutter button under the index finger in landscape orientation by the looks of it. Will hold out to see what the P30 Pro is up to next month first (the P20 Pro is respectable for photography, a little overprocessed at times perhaps and video is rather bad than good), but otherwise, I think I might've found my next phone as I'm not really up to play guinea pig with those foldable phones that cost more than my ASUS ZenBook Flip.
  19. Well, it does say in my signature 'Powered by Google search skills'. xD Yeah, they're hard to beat.
  20. I'm a bit disappointed with Panasonic to be honest. They did so well for years following the GH2 even with the small stuff like the LX100. Now there's an update to the latter as well as e.g. the FZ1000, which is, well rather embarrassing. Seems they've taken a page from the Canon playbook: 'minimum effort, regurgitating mostly old stuff, labelling it as new'. GH2, GH3, GH4 used to be the flagships. Now there's 3. GH5, G9 and GH5S. You need the G9 if you want most out of photography, the GH5 for IBIS video and GH5S for best sensor performance. Let's sell you more cameras. What indeed happened to cameras with amazing value such as the G70, G80 and GX80? I'm afraid we're only going to see their focus shift from consumer to high-end as the former will increasingly favor a smartphone. Also, higher-end cameras and less of them mean increasing prices and a focus on high-end lenses as well. See Olympus with their E-M1X. Also, it's been a while since either of them focused on making compact and affordable lenses. It's mostly big chunky Olympus PRO and Leica these days. I'm afraid bang for buck has become out of luck. Btw, people are still asking for a proper GX8 successor. The GX9 indeed is more of an alternate take on the GX80.

  22. I love me the Contax Zeiss lenses. Had a set of f/2.8s already (representing the Distagons are the 25, 28mm and 35mm. Then there’s the Tessar 45mm (which kinda is a pancake lens). For a bit more reach the Sonnar 85mm and 135mm), except for the 50mm which is a Planar f/1.4. Just a few days ago I've gotten a super mint and boxed condition 28mm f/2 'Hollywood' in to really bring the Contax Zeiss-theme home. A bit harder is completing a Summicron-R set, of which I only have the Leica Summicron-R 35 and 50mm f/2 E55 ('Leica' badged, but can be found cheaper as Leitz, Leitz Canada or Leitz-Wetzlar editions). Of course you can go the opposite direction with e.g. a set of Pentax Takumars, Canon FDs or Nikon Ai(-s). Or what a lot of us here love as well, Russian Zenit primes... think: HELIOS, JUPITER, INDUSTAR, MIR & TAIR ones. So much love for vintage lenses. Built like tanks back in the day and so full of character. And... might be more interesting to buy an oldschool 50mm for under a hundo than one of the new ones that costs you a kidney. There's still great stuff to read up on: https://www.vintagelensesforvideo.com/ , I implore you to check it out! E.g. not the sharpest, but look at that mojo...
  23. I actually ate SPAM again recently. Kind of out of nostalgia. It smells like dog food, but it still tastes bomb. Had cut it up in little blocks and made an omelet with it.
  24. If you're lucky on eBay. Rich doesn't cater to mere mortals anymore. It's all high-end and pricey from here. He also rebranded DSO to RGO UK. Would've loved that one from the Olivia video on the first page of this topic in Nikon mount, but back in the day I had other priorities and now it's too late.
