  1. this is normal ISCO ultrastar with removed back housing, saves you some size and a bit of weight, i removed that housing from mine, looks the same good lens, sharp, better flares then Kowa H16, but Kowa, to my eye, is more anamorphic, on S35 works great with 50mm
  2. 16H is a beautiful lens, and i actually also like it better than Lomo square
  3. oh man, this is pathetic! Andrew, relax for Christ sake :)
  4. Well, it is a simple question: Why Do Some Cameras Create More of a Film Look? The question is about camera characteristics, no need to mention shooter or editor, or lighting, or what you smoke, or use to drink after your dinner when it's raining outside and starting to get dark ...
  5. fairly simple question, but it looks like no one reads it :) Answering your original question without going deep into the conversation on the subject, and assuming that different cameras are used by the same DOP, and in the same environment, i say it's dynamic range and color sampling. Having wider dynamic range allows skilled colorists create any look you want, either 'Matrix' film look, or 'Kill Bill' film look, and of course 444 looks a bit better than 420 but it's certainly not what 'makes' the magic :) http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zJahlKPCL9g http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vslQm7IYME4
  6. Great if you can wait till NAB, because i'm sure there will be more 4K capable cameras and camcorders, but looking at your requirements for your work camcorder like AX100, or similar, will be much better tool than any DSLR. People telling you to get GH4 either just can't read, or have a very little knowledge about basic principals of photography.
  7. bullshit. Content IS the king. you're funny guy Andrew :)
  8. No, putting different specs into the same hands will not change anything, and you hardly will notice any difference in IQ, especially on the web, if only buying Christopher Doyle camera would make me Christopher Doyle, that would be nice.
  9. yes, and iPhone 5s too, it was used in a Burberry commercial production
  10. between those two i would still go with 5D3, full frame is such an awesome thing in many aspects, plus the low light of 5D3 is just unbeatable. i think today 5D3, with it's ability to shoot raw, is the best ever 'bang for your buck';
  11. Thanks for the test! i like the flares on LA7200, but bokeh to my eye looks better on Noktor, well, 'better' to my eye of course; I'm getting this one for sure, but I'll keep my LA7200
  12. OK, you right i am wrong, but saying that red is only good on paper is like saying:"I don't know how to use this camera, but it's shit camera anyways" i shoot Alexas often, and own Epic MX, i am being honest - i wouldn't trade it for Arri, it's just 'more' of a camera. And i am not talking Dragon, just MX. i am very very far from being Red fanboy, i am rather hateboy, but bashing one camera that half the size and third the price just because you didn't have a chance to get familiar with it and not comfortable with the workflow doesn't seem to be very professional. If Red is good for Jackson, Scott, Fincher, Soderbergh and many others who choose it as a tool, not a religion, it's certainly good enough for me. :)
  13. if you're planning to shoot 4K on Mark3 - good luck :) if you're asking if it's still good camera - no, it's not good, it's amazing
  14. in 8 bit color space i'd try to get as close as possible to a look i want - in camera, but with GH3 i would keep contrast and saturation at -3 and sharpening at -5, but again, this is very subjective;
  15. Great video Mark, where do i get one, and will it vignette @ 24mm on S35?
  16. you don't really need to 'know' about any of those, except for the minimum focusing distance for each adapter, and since you already have em, just test and take a look for yourself, if you like them all - keep them all, if you hate them all - get rid of them, i just want to say there is one person who makes decision, based on what you shoot and how the image looks - is you. I don't care what any anamorphic guru says about the lens if i like the image it produces :)
  17. believe it, it'll be here in couple months :) i've been shooting 4K since 2010, but never deliver anything in higher than 1080 :) and to me 4k (at least today) not as much about resolution as about detail and dr; i didn't have a chance to get a closer look at XAVC, but red R3Ds are extremely light , in fact way lighter than AVCHD for example, and i can edit 4K raw on my slightly modified Samsung i7 laptop. i can't wait to get that lil 4k camera!
  18. that's the trollest troll i've ever seen on the web :))))))))
  19. looks beautiful, but on larger sensor it will look even better, well, more anamorphic :)
  20. wow! i would still use 5D3 with external bettery, not necessarily raw, but i just can't name any camera that does better than 5D3 in low light,
