Yes, that too. They could probably rate a Sony Smartphone Camera better than a Panasonic GH5.

James Miller demonstrates that this is an codec problem that disappears when an external recorder is used, suggesting that the 400mps upgrade will help or elimaite this occasional problem.

Here's a low budget music video I made with the GX85 and a cheap toy 25mm 1.7 cctv lens. The look is meant to be dirty but what was great was that the GX85, with it's great IBIS, enabled me to get the movement I was wanting. We tried with a Canon C100 and it just wasn't the same. It's an incredibly versatile little camera.

This is my whole point about the Cinema5D post
They are complaining it's a bit-depth issue with 10bit when it's actually an encoder issue / compression related.
And 10bit looks pretty damned good in the standard colour modes to my eye, yet they claim overall it gives zero benefit. Go figure.

No 'dual recording'! The biggest pity is there's no way to utilize those 4 media slots to record raw and ProRes simultaneously (like Red does). This seems like such a travesty coming from the company that owns Resolve and should recognize the value of online/offline workflows. BlackMagic confirmed with me on the phone that you must choose to record to SD OR CFast and in one format only.

When you are naming as a reviewer some negative things (cons) about a camera, you are referring to things that should be there, considering the company's marketing, the product's price and the competition in this specific price range. HFR is softer than regular 1080p in all cameras since faster sensor readouts come with compromises, at least for now...But 180p imagery, slightly softer than Pana's tack sharp 1080p is not a "con", this is what I am saying. It is called "gift".

If you set the 10 bit artifacts in Vlog aside and look at their cons list, this review seems quite subjective. "Dynamic range is limited". 10-11 stops is "fine" for such a camera, it's slightly worse than xt-2. "Lowlight is average". No it's not...This is an m43 camera that gives you a usable 3200 iso sensitivity, which is not average, it's "fine". "1080p 180fps gives you less resolution than actual 1080p". Really? Name a camera at this price range (or double the money if you want) that does better than this. Luke's HFR footage was terrific.. "Some canon lenses did not work with speed booster..." Cmon...what has this to do with the camera? In which universe these are cons?

Yep, seems most of the olympus/panasonic lenses perform well wide open. I can vouche for the panny 20mm f1.7
But I've also read reviews and seen footage from:
    Panasonic 12 f1.4
    Panasonic 15 f1.7
    Panasonic 25 f.14
    Panasonic 42.5 f1.2 / f1.7

    Sigma 30 f1.4
    Olympus 12 f2.0
    Olympus 17 f1.8
    Olympus 45 f1.8
    Olympus 75 f1.8
All seem to perform pretty well wide open.  The Rokinon 12 f2.0 that I have is also pretty good at f2, especially for the cost. So there's lots of options.

Wow really nice video. You would be damn hard pressed to tell what camera shot that footage. And you would guess it was a damn good camera that did it. This just goes to show that a darn good camera with darn good grading skills beats just about any conception that you need a Arri to make stuff happen. Nice find.

    Bro.
Panny 7-14mm f4 can be had for under $500.
Sony 10-18mm f4 is around $600. It does have oss though and takes screw on filters.
Panny 12-35mm f2.8 can be had for $500
Sony: no f2.8 standard apsc lens. But you can buy the FE GM 24-70mm for $1,800
Panny 35-100mm can be had for $600
Sony: no equivalent but you can use the new 70-200mm f2.8 for $2,600...

The only other "comparable" lenses are the sony 18-105mm f4 for $500 which is a stop slower and the Zeiss one (forgot specs) that is closer to $1,000.

Panny Trinity is under $2k USD used on eBay if you scrounge for deals - for f2.8 zooms! Small and lightweight.  Admittedly the 35-100 stabilizer is shit for video but the IQ is fine.
Sony lineup has nothing close and you have to use the heavy and crazy expensive full frame lenses for f2.8... Currently the 10-18 24-70 and 70-200 would be just under $5k... And heavy and large.

$3k vs $5k. Is that a "fair" comparison? Maybe not, but we have no choice since Sony has no comparable lenses!

Sony is boatloads more expensive.  Whether it's worth it or not is up to you.  The GM 70-200 f2.8 looks pretty sweet since I think they said it was parfocal.  The 24-70 I'm disappointed has no built in oss.  I really like the 5 axis dual is on the 18-105 a6500 combo.  Haven't really been overly impressed with ibis and adapted lenses.

No way Sony is cheaper!  When have they ever been cheaper?!  It's Sony!

I bought a 50D just for using it with magic lantern. I get full HD raw for €250 (using anamorphic).
If you go with a 5d mk2, you get full HD raw (13+ stops DR with dual ISO) for ~€1000.
Yes it is a hack, but you have to love what it gives you for the price. If you don't wanna go with blackmagic in a tight budget, this is the only way to get raw !
But as you said, the 5D mk4 is an expensive camera, and it doesn't offer much. I think the ML team should concentrate on the unfinished projects first (Dual ISO video for 7D/50D & 10-12bit raw for 5d mk2 / 50D). There is still some humph to get from these 5+ y-o cameras  I wonder how the apertus project is going, if I remember correctlyctly, some developpers came from ML dev team.

Exactly, if you take a look of the supported camera they haven't released any solid firmware for years now. http://builds.magiclantern.fm/ The most recent one are the 5Dmk3 and 700D... With Canon being so behind now, especially with the 5D4, I think the dev team decided to move on and focus on more interesting projects instead of trying to rescue crippled camera from the 90s.
I'm still using the 6D and 5D3 here. Going to buy the GH5 and waiting for the next generation of Sony A7.

Think the time of Magic Lantern is over (active developing wise). It was cool with the T2i/550D and 5DmkII&III, but there's so many great ready to shoot cameras now, that I doubt it makes sense to exploit a camera that doesn't want to be exploited. Panasonic and Sony embrace new options, if you must get a Canon, shoot 5DMIII MLRAW, or get a 1D C/1DX Mark II, I'd say. But gd luck if you still feel like it's something to put money, time and effort into.

Juank reacted to Shield3 in They shot Moonlight (8 Oscar nominations) with ProRes, not RAW
The codec on the 5d3 isn't what killed it.  It's the shit pipeline Canon put in between the 14 bit data coming off the sensor and before the data is written to the card.  The codec itself is fine; it's doing a fine job lightly compressing the crappy "baked in" data its getting.  Case in point, the 1dc in 1080p24 mode didn't look any better, and neither does the 1dx II (and they are using MJPEG).  Whatever Canon does to that image (going from 14 bit raw to the 8 bit output) is what kills the image.  Codec is the least of your problems - the c100 original had a puny 24 Megabit AVCHD file and walked all over the 3 aforementioned cameras in 1080p24.  The lowly XC-10's 1080p24 does as well; same codec I believe in 1080p mode (ALL-I or IPB).
Moral = line skipping / binning is not your friend.
